A couple buddies of mine were arguing about if they were the Sixers and you had two outcome which one would you rather have. Would you rather have the number 1 pick and lose the lakers pick until next year where you never know where it will end up. (for the sake of the argument let’s assume it’s not a top 5 pick) or get the 2nd pick but also receive the Lakers pick at 4?  You have a chance at a superstar in Simmons but can he play with the plethora of bigs already on the roster with the spacing already a question mark with Okafor and Noel? One of my friends is really high on Brandon Ingram so he was arguing for 2 & 4. I understand the notion of not passing up a superstar, so as of now I’m leaning towards the number 1 pick if I am convinced Simmons is the transcendent star they need.

Its not even close, I’d rather have Ben Simmons this year! He is the prize of the draft at this point… until a late riser ala D’angelo Russell or Joel Embiid comes out of nowhere, this years tank in Ben Simmons or bust!

the Lakers will need at least 2 years before they can get back to the payoffs so that Lakers pick which is top 3 protected in 2016 & 2017 & will be unprotected in 2018 should be a top 10 pick even if it’s converts in 2018 – but it will Def go to Phila bny 2018…..

Phila has 2 other 1st rounders next June (Miami & OKC both owe their 1st round pick to Phila) & w/ Embiid & Saric all but certain to there you are talking about FIVE – brand new 1st round picks (3 Lottery) joining their team next October & that’s WITHOUT the Lakers pick converting this year –

So I would def take Simmonsif I was them….. They have 2 First round picks in 2017, 2018 & 2019 anyway…. So youcan can just add that Lakers picks to that haul….. But if Embiid is healthy & they got Simmons – I would take my time doing this but I would look to move Noel, Okafor & Saric for wings players & Guards & w/ Simmons & Embiid at the #4 & #5 positions – you have a Monster front court – potentially 2 Super Stars who are 18 & 21 years old…..

I think Okafor is going to be a star too but he won’t fit w/ Embiid & Simmons – but let him develop & a team will give up a lot for Okafor b/c he’s an absolute stud on the low block….. or maybe you keep Okafor & trade Embiid…. Either way, Phila has a ton of options moving forward….

Wow, those are very interesting scenarios as in either case the 76’ers can benefit immensely with the right approach. If i was the GM however, i personally would first see if there are any trades i can make for young established talent (not likely), if not i would take the 2nd and Fourth picks. With the 2nd pick i would draft Jaylen Brown and would try and see if i can trade the 4th pick and a guy like dario saric for the 3rd pick to draft Brandon Ingram. If i found no reasonable trades for the 4th pick then i’ll have to hope that Ingram falls to me. If he doesn’t fall then i would draft Jamal Murray (I’d rather trade the 4th pick down to get him but there will be no assurances that he will be there and i think philly needs guard talent and should draft based on that).

Might I suggest your point of view is clouded by watching a poorly run club such as the kicks for all these years? You don’t give up a talent like Simmons for the 2 and 4. That’s a nice consolation prize, but only if you miss on Simmons. He should be priority 1, 2 and 3.

That’s a tough choice. Part of me feels like Simmons could be a potential franchise player and the chance to draft a player of that magnitude does not come around very often. I don’t think the sixers current roster around Simmons would work but you have plenty of young assets you could trade for more workable pieces to build around Simmons. However, god forbid if Simmons gets hurt or doesn’t pan out to be the superstar that he is projected to be than you are kind of back to the drawing board.

Say they wind up with the 2nd and 4th picks and they take ingram and Murray. That gives you a nice young nucleus of Murray, ingram, saric, noel, okafor and embiid. That’s a roster that could potentially be a powerhouse in the east in a few years, plus they would likely end up with another high draft pick in 2017. They might still have to make a few trades but it wouldn’t require the roster overhaul that I think would be necessary to build around Simmons.

My thinking is that the sixers will stick with what they seem to have been doing all along and take the best available player regardless of fit, which will likely be Simmons if they get the first pick. It’s probably what I would do. However, getting the 2nd and 4th picks would give them more of a chance to keep the pieces they currently have and build around them.

I feel like as much as I love Simmons and as good as he is a lot of people are sleeping on Ingram way too hard! To say that you would rather have just Simmons as opposed to Ingram and a potential all star like jaylen or Murray lets me know One everyone sleeps in Ingram or two everyone just follows the popular guy.

Would you rather have Lebron or Carmelo and Bosh? I take Lebron all day. Not saying the style of the 2 and 4 pick will be of them but the 2 and 4 pick will be good players for sure. Thats prbly the ceiling really for those picks.

Take Simmons all day. He is on another level and is a franchise changer for whoever gets him.

If the Sixers really, really do well in this draft I think that along with Ben Simmons, THE guy in this draft, I think they also need to get a stretch four then another guard who can both Shoot AND Score.

A GREAT draft for them would be Ben Simmons, Buddy Hield, and Sabonis.  Then you can mix and match your bigs, you let Ben Simmons run the show at the 3 and use Buddy Hield as the deep threat and 2nd or 3rd scoring option.

You would still have a log jam up front, and your "TOP" 3 front court players going into next year CAN’T SHOOT — Okafor, Ben Simmons, and Nerlens Noel.

Worst case scenario is that they DO NOT get the top pick AND that they lose the Lakers.  Actually, that would be the LIKELY scenario since they would ONLY have a 25% chance of getting the top pick.  Then with the Lakers being the 2nd worst team at the moment so it is likely that they can get to at least 2 or 3.

Not sure what they do if that happens.

The Philly fans will be more impatient and Sam Hinkie’s seat will be getting even hotter.

The Sixers should sign Delly as a free agent if they land Simmons.

Has experience playing with Lebron and is a high character 3 and D guy.

Philly needs veteran leadership and the Cavs cant afford to sign him.

Then Simmons can take 50% of the PG duties, which seems the right amount.

I am huge fan of Simmons, so if I were Philly I would take the no 1 pick even if it meant in 2017 the Lakers pick was no 30 (it won’t be, just saying given those parameters, I want Simmons). He is not just the best player in this draft, he is a once a decade player and you can never pass on that.

Interesting choice.  Top pick has lots of prestige, 76ers have not had one for a while, even though they have been trying to get it.  Top pick and wait for Lakers one seems the better move.  Get Simmons, then figure out what to do with all the centers for 76ers.

Simmons is well worth not getting a top five pick the next year, so I’d have to go witht the first option. Even if the pick weren’t top five next year, it’ll still be a lottery pick and most likely a top ten pick. That’s fine as long as you get Simmons.
