negguaryParticipantWhy are we completely shutting the door on Brandon Ingram being the number one pick? Granite I’ve seen both play and at this point Simmons is clearly the superior player. However, its a marathon not a race and as of late Ingram has been coming along nicely, tonight he had 26 and 14. Furthermore, he already has a better jumpshot and probably will always have a better shot than Simmons. He has better defensive potential given his wingspan, so with all that said if Ingram is able to continue to develop like he has been and Simmons is unable or unwilling to show that he can shoot, in addition to his team not winning is it really that far fetched for Ingram to be the number 1 pick? Would the Gm that took Ingram over simmons be deemed a fool? Just asking? LOL

BrentSuriaga01ParticipantDo that on a consistent basis, then we can discuss the no. 1 pick.

NBAjunkie81Participantdevelop & mature – which is fine…. I understand that high draft picks are about the Long game….. but Simmons looks like an absolute star & remember that Uni-brow Davis could not shoot either his 1st year…… It’s not like th eold days where the NBA teams expected a fully developed player in the Draft……
NBA teams now Expect to develop at least some aspects of these young top Prospects…. Simmons doesn’t have to shoot 3’s – he just needs to develop a J from about 15 feet & in……..
I just can’t see Any GM passing on Simmons at that #1 slot…..

SlickBouncePassParticipantthey were saying Ingram is stil adjusting to the speed of the college game….thats worrisome, because hte NBA is that much quicker.
Ingram’s length is taylor-made for the NBA. I think he will be a future multiple all star.
Today I saw him doing simmons-esque things like anticipating and being the inteh right position and picking up rebounds by anticipation. This is stuff Simmons was doing from day 1, and by the way, Simmons is a lot stronger and has no problem getting in position to make plays.
I think Simmons impacts the game more than Ingram, so tahts why you take Simmons. Simply on his ability to facilitate and make players around him better.
I think Ingram goes before Jamal Murray though….for sure. I still think its
Simmons
Ingram
Brown
Murray
Bender
Dunn
Labissiere

GBeeParticipantGranite?
Simmons is more advanced at the moment physically and mentally, but he’s also over a year older than Ingram. They’re different kind of prospects. Simmons’ best attribute offensively is clearly his passing and anticipation, but his offensive versatility in terms of scoring, especially in the half-court where the majority of all possessions in the NBA occur, lags behind Ingram’s… and I personally think that will always be the case. Simmons also looks more like a PF to me with Ingram looking like a SF long-term. At those respective positions, I think Ingram’s physical tools are better than Simmons’. Also, given his style of play where he can be equally effective on or off the ball you don’t have to worry about fit or rearranging pieces to accomodate his game.
I said it before the college season started that I thought that Ingram had the highest potential in this class considering his scoring potential, physical tools, feel for the game and defensive potential for his position. His combination of ball skills and shot-creating ability is the best among all wings in this class. He has superstar scoring potential to go along with his solid floor game and physical tools defensively. So no, personally I would not write him off as a possible #1 pick.

Hype MachineThere’s a debate until the name is called out. Ingram as T-Mac type ability.
It would help with comparisons if LSU wasn’t so badddddddd. Coach Jones is as terrible as everyone says.

losnopesosParticipantAt the very least Simmons has an NBA body right now. And he can pass.

rcomly21ParticipantWhile Simmons has rare passing and playmaking ability, I think today’s game is all about spacing and shooting ability. I worry about Simmons ability to consistently hit a jumper. It’s worrisome that in 8 games he has only attempted 2 threes with the college three point line. I have heard Lebron comparisons, and while Simmons is blessed athletically, Lebron is a once in a lifetime physcial specimen. I think Simmons will be a good player, but I like Ingram better because of his ability to space the floor. When you can space the floor everything opens up for you and your teammates (See Steph and Golden State). I think Simmons could struggle in the half court as well, and his passing could be limited without a respectable jumper. Also Ingram will mesh easily in any system with his style of play. With Simmons the whole team composition will need to be restructured. Point guard will be devalued on his team because Simmons will in essence be the point. I think it would be worth considering playing him at the point ala Magic. Ultimatley, I think it is best to build around players who can play without the ball justa as well as they can with it, so I do not think a team would be wrong to take Ingram ahead of Simmons. You can’t go wrong with either though, and I think they are head and shoulders above the rest of this draft class. This decision will ultimatley come down to the style a team wants to play.

Hype MachineMy bookmaker is offering the following odds for the #1 pick.
Simmons $1.40 for every $1 invested
Anyone else: $2.80 for every $1 invested
Using my very average maths, that means the "experts" (use term loosely) think that theres a 66% chance of Simmons, 33% chance of someone else.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI’m not completely shutting the door on anything but from what I’ve seen so far Simmons seems like the best overall prospect. That could still be subject to change though.
Ingram’s ability to score the ball is ahead of Simmons right now but Simmons overall is just the better player and impacts the game in more ways.

circumlocution75ParticipantWe could have several All Star caliber players – Ingram, Labissiere, Murray, Brown (in any order) but I think Simmons is a prospect w/ such a potentially high upside that whoever lands that #1 pick Must draft Simmons,,,,,, jumt my humnble opinion,,,,
