Can you think of any moves/common thoughts, that at the moment of happening were considered outrageous but in the end have been proven the other way around?

I don’t know if I have explained myself, so here is an example as a sample:

That time when you would never trade Josh Smith for Pau Gasol… (c’mon… really?)

     1. You should 100% draft Oden over Durant

    2. Thomas, as the last pick in the draft, is too small to make a difference in the NBA

    3. Eddy Curry is going to carry the Bulls into a new post-Jordan era

Timberwolves thinking Flynn and/or Rubio would be their franchise PG over the likes of Stephen Curry.

i remember there were alot of lakers fans upset when la traded the popular divac to charlotte for jellybean’s son.

alot of milwaukee front office people thought the late robert tractor traylor would be the next charles barkley.they traded the rights to dirk nowitzki to get him.we all know who got the better of that deal.its kind of bizzare that the same yr dirk won mvp 2011.was the same yr traylor died.

The trade that sent Ed Macauley and Cliff Hagan to the St. Louis Hawks in exchange for the 2nd overall pick (Bill Russell) in the 1956 NBA draft.  Not sure if it was considered outrageous at the time but I would say in hindsight it might be the most outrageous trade ever. I can’t think of a bigger franchise changing trade in the history of the NBA or any major sport for that matter.

The Jazz also traded five first round draft picks to the Lakers for an injured old Gail Goodrich. One of the picks turned into Magic Johnson.

im old enuff to remember the deal that brought wilkens to the atl..it involved john drew who played on about 2 all star teams and freeman williams.i think he lead the nation in scoring in 1977 or 78.i was excited about the trade becuz growing up in mississippi we saw alot of sec games and wilkens was my favorite college player.

wilkens was pissed that the jazz selected him.and didnt try to hide his feelings about not wanting to play in utah.most experts had him going number 1 and to the lakers.

At the time of the Wilkins trade the Jazz were about to go bankrupt, the Hawks sent Utah some money, and helped pay operating cost – Under the table (suppossedly)

The time there was hype about Darko…
Detroit did rebound nicely though, making it to the championship in 2004 & 2005.

The Jazz did not trade for Goodrich, they signed him as a free agent, the NBA didn’t want him in a small market and penalized the Jazz.

the NBA basically FIXED it so the Jazz lost Magic Johnson, because the signed a free agent.

That time Michael Jordan thought Kwame Brown was the shiznit and drafted him #1 overall above Pau Gasol, and Tyson Chandler.
