SnowtaParticipantI’ve been sitting on this for awhile. I figured Shabazz’s small amount of PT early in the year would keep increasing as Sam became more comfortable with the rotations, but now over 1/4 of the way through the year Shabazz is still avg 17 min/gm. What am I missing here? I know I’m a little biased because I LOVE the energy and mentality Bazz plays with. I know his +/- isn’t that good, but I feel like part of that is the fact Sam always throws him out there with pretty poorly constructed lineups. He led the team in PER last year and plays with the type of attitude this team desperately needs. Please, please Sam I beg of you… FREE SHABAZZ!!!

alex23ParticipantI don’t think Sam Mitchell is a good coach at all, especially for a group of young developing players.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipant1) The big issue is SMitch’s rotations. They’re godawful. He’s a placeholder though, I can’t imagine he gets extended beyond this year.
2) I think the Wolves are transparent in trying to up KMart’s value so they can deal him to a contender, which is definitely cutting into Bazz’s PT.
3) The Wolves suddenly have a glut on the wings. Bjelica is good, Wiggins can swing between both wing spots, LaVine can play competent 2 (NOT PG- stop trying to make it happen, Wolves!! lol) in spurts, Martin is good, Prince is way over the hill but still getting PT because mentorship…all of which cuts into Bazz’s minutes.
4) I think when Martin gets moved (it’ll happen, I think they’re just waiting until closer to the deadline to unload him to a contender), SMitch ends his HC gig, Prince’s deal expires after this year, minutes will open up for him. The Wolves still very much value him as a wing/a small ball PF.
Also, rumors are the Lakers and Nyets have interest in him. What pieces do these teams realistically have to offer? I mean if they could swing us a good young PG or a PF, or draft picks (both of which these teams are lacking thanks to awful GMming), or take on one of our dead weight deals (Pek), then maybe I’d listen, but for now they need to just hang up the phone and trust in the process.

Gold ChainSam Mitchell has the Wolves overachieving and playing pretty darn well in a highly competitive league.
Shabazz is in that DRussell/Randle category of flashy college players with Weak defense, who even in their best games can’t even manage to put up a positive +/-.
PER is a very bad stat, that caters to high volume chuckers who don’t play defense, like all three names listed above.
Some things are more important than the development of your favorite underdog scrub.
Like winning.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantMostly cause he hasn’t really shown anything to prove he can be anything more than a bench big…not because he’s a bad person or not working hard or anything. He’s one of those guys that’s consistently playing the game 1-2 moves behind, and doesn’t really take smart shots. He puts in a ton of physical effort (hence the injuring Gorgui Dieng while rebounding)/wild play, but doesn’t have the IQ to make smart plays. Trading a future first for him was a baaaaaaaaad move.

SnowtaParticipantCouldn’t agree more. I had high hopes for Payne when the trade was made but he’s been disappointing. Shows some flashes but effort lacks at times and I feel like he never knows where he should be on the court.

GreekballinI wanted to make the same exact same post, yesterday he was 6 of 8 scoring 15 pts in 15 minutes… But like they said, they probably want to raise Kmart’s value before trading him..
