At what point to do the Lakers bench Kobe for poor play? Seriously the guy is shooting 30% but takes more shots than anyone on the team. And if they never bench him doesn’t that make them more guilty than the Sixers when it comes to tanking?

The Sixeres are dealing with injury problems, missing Wroten, Marshall and Embiid but they still go out a play hard and try their best to win every night, they just aren’t that good. If the Lakers don’t sit Kobe then it obvous that that aren’t trying that hard to win. Are people going to start 5 threads per day bashing them?

It’s the man’s last season with possibly the worst team in the season. Let him give the fans what they want..

Fair enough, but at that point aren’t you admitting the Lakers are throwing games i.e. not trying their hardest to win?

itself….. But Kobe is a once in a lifetime player – he should at least start every game…..

The Lakers are clearly w/ the Sixers the worst 2 teams in the NBA…. so it’s not even about "Tanking" or "Throwing games" …..

Whether Kobe plays 40 minutes & takes 30 shots or if he plays 5 minutes & takes 3 shots…. that Lakers team is not winning more than 20 games this year…..

L.A. has a long Rebuild in front of them….. & Phila will have one of their 1st round picks regardless of whether it is in 2016, 2017 or 2018….. I don’t think it will be this year…..

But I would not focus on it if I were a Lakers fan….. It is what it is….. Just focus on developing your young core of Randle, Russell & Clarkson….. Hopefully you get Simmons or Brown or Labiserre….

But even if you don’t…. you should be able to attract free agents starting next summer…. B/c you have a young core around which to build around…..

So Shower Kobe w/ all the recognition & love he deserves….. He really rescued the NBA from a really difficult transition after Jordan retired….. Let visiting teams make a big deal over Kobe….. Last night in Phila was absolutely Beautiful…. & quietly allow your youngster to take reigns…..

But absolutely No way should they bench Kobe during his final year….

The guy is a selfish, narcissistic, ball hog.

How is he helping develop the younger guys ? They can only really improve in one area – and that is offensive rebounding
with all the opportunities of the bricks he keeps putting up…..

Didn’t expect anyone to call him out like that THIS soon. I thought everyone would be too emotional over his retirement announcement to call him out like that, but the truth had to come out soon.

I love Kobe, but I have no clue what he’s doing throwing up so many shots when he knows they’re not falling. He could at least play as a ball handler and create opportunities for his teammates. A guy with his IQ and ball handling skill could surely play as a more point-forward type of guy who runs the offense instead of looking for his shot so often. He could help Russell, Randle and Clarkson get the shots they need, but I don’t know why he’s so deadset on shooting brick after brick with the occasional airball. I love the guy and consider him one of the greatest of all time, but emotions aside he’s playing atrociously and is contributing literally nothing to his team right now besides jacking up ticket prices at the Staples Center.

I hope Lakers end up with a worse record than Philly, and then slide back down to 4th as 3 teams jump them to the lottery!

But then Philly will prosper for tanking by receiving 2 top 4 picks.  I guess they prosper if you try it over 3 years :p

Yea. Kobe is absolutely awful right now and he is single-handidly shooting them out of games. Personally, I would love to see him play less mins and more of a team game, which he is absolutely capable of doing. Maybe he will as the season goes on. Right now though, he just seems dead set on going out his way and giving the fans what they want, which is to see him jack up impossible shots.

Honestly this season just became a circus but they will still sell tickets and be in the spotlight. It will also send a message to free agents about the Lakers organization that they stick by their superstars to the end no matter what.

I don’t think any fan wants to see Kobe going 4-17 from the 3 point line.

It’s absolutely awful.  It’s hard to watch, and not because of the whole "It’s sad seeing a legend struggle" narrative.  No it’s sad to watch because it’s just terrible and selfish basketball.

It’s going to cause serious tension in the locker room as well sooner than later.  You could hear it in the post game interviews with the other players.

Nobody holds him accountable.  B Scott continually makes excuses for him after every game.  He went as far to say that he would live and die with Kobe’s shooting performances like last night.

WTF?  Such a poorly coached team.  The fact that Kobe is playing the worst basketball out of ANYBODY in the league right now… yes anybody only doubles down on B Scotts incompetence.

Say what you want, and nobody loves the Lakers as much as me… but if Kobe goes out like this, in such a selfish manner, without even flinching in the face of, basically by any metric what is considered the worst season for a player with his useage…. ever.  Then it will leave a sour taste in my mouth.  I won’t go as far as to say it will tarnish his legacy or whatever.  But it won’t be easy to forget, at least in my eyes.

Sure, 5 championships and yadayadayada.  This is the most selfish stretch of basketball by anybody…. ever in the NBA.  Remember when they said Rubio was on pace to have, or did have the worst shooting season ever?  Kobe is making him look like Steph Curry.

I’m okay with losing.  If they went 0-82 I am fine with that, as long as it looked like they were giving effort and playing the game the right way.  But this is just beyond comprehension to me.

If this was part of some big plan to attempt to keep their pick, okay… I mean it would be stupid but okay I would get it.  But it’s not.  We shouldn’t even try to give Scott and Kobe that kind of credit right now.  It’s just pure selfishness from two people specifically who are too egotistical to put an end to it… or even confront what is going on for that matter.

I feel bad for every Laker player not named Kobe Bryant…. yesss even Nick Young.

Kobe has always been like this. He has always been a volume shooter with a lower percentage than the other greats. We just see it more now that he can’t explode to the rim like he use to. That selfishness made him great but also a pain to play with. He won’t change now.

No, he hasn’t always shot 30% from the field and under 20% from the three point line… in fact he has never done that.  Yes he was and is a volume shooter.

He has always shot more than I would like him too.

But he has never been like this because he has never been this poor of a shooter.  Nobody has.

There is really no defense for it.  Not saying you are, but I honestly can’t believe people are trying.

Last season? So what.  Farewell tour?  Great.  It’s a pathetic display of basketball.  One that you would never see any other player of Kobe’s caliber put on.

I can’t say for certain, but I would challenge anybody to find a more pathetic season… by any other player…. ever.

And we are supposed to just be cool with it?  I was a Lakers fan before Kobe Bryant, I will be one after Kobe Bryant.  No excuses for what he is doing right now.

The Lakers ideally want to use Russell as the ball handler but I could see logic in almost playing Kobe as the PG and let him use his experience to make plays for the younger guys. This way he dictates the tempo and can doesn’t have to move about so much off the ball.

The ironic thing is if Kobe is taking loads of shots and has a low scoring percentage, it’s alnost good for the Lakers to increase their chances of keeping the pick.

Kobe’s biggest problem is that he seems to settle for outside jumpers, doesn’t go into the paint anymore. He used to be really effective posting up other guards, but now he always seems to jack up contested three-pointers.

Not really sure what he has on his mind right now; no reporter asks those questions after these kind of games?

Well according to Durant the Media is to hard on him. What a joke that is.

He is Kobe he should figure out how to contribute in the passing and other areas if he isnt scoring. He really thinks he will start scoring soon and just keeps shooting. Media should be asking him every hard question. Why not thats entertainment too.

They can’t bench him because he’s a Laker great and has done so much for the franchise, but I’d honestly like to see him retire after All-Star break because it’s painful watching him play now and there’s still fear that he gets hurt every game. If he holds up til break they should let him say his goodbye at the All-Star game.
