I don’t want to turn this into another Sixers post but man these kids play really hard especially on defense. They’re in another close game with the Grizzlies right now, it’s nice to see the effort is still at a high level. Most of the posts about the sixers are bashing the current players or questioning the "process" which I can understand. Win or lose this game, I just want to give them a shout out for the energy and effort they brought so far tonight.

really good NBA prospects that need to be developed…. Okafor & Noel….. you could maybe add Grant to that list……& Brett Brown is Not developing them…. He’s trying to win a game or two by having scrubs like Robert Covington, Isaiah Canaan & Hollis Thompson jack up 15 shots apiece every game….. If I was a Sixers fan I would be Livid…… You need to develop your young talent…..

So what is your solution exactly?  Get Noel to jack up 30 shots a game because he is a better prospect than others on the team? When he goes 7/30 i don’t really think that’s going to help him too much.

I have defended the Sixers on here relentlessly only b/c I don’t see what else they could have done after the Bynum trade…..

So I gave them about 5 years to basically be terrible…. But you have to develop Noel & Okafor even if that means losing….

People forget that the Uni-brow could not shoot when he enetered the NBA – he has Totally different shot mechanics now b/c NOLA developed his game & put a priority on his development….

Noel was looking great at the the end of last year… After MCW exited Noel actually averaged 13.5 ppg & the Sixers were running plays for him…. He has regressed this year b/c he’s just no longer involved at the offensive end….

Big men take Longer to develop than any other player… Add to that the fact these top prospects are entering the NBA as teen agers…. So Pro teams must commit to developing them otherwise why bother drafting them…. No player’s game is complete at 18 / 19 years old…. If these players stayed in college 4 years they would be developing the entire time….

Trust me if 3 years from now when Noel & Okafor are the same age that Favors & Gobert are now (23 & 24) – if they are balling you will be much happier as a Sixers fan that you developed them instead of worrying about winning an extra handful of games on this "Rebuilding" team….

I understand the frustration…. but if you are going to commit to building through the draft, you have to follow through and commit to Development…. I’m not going to bash the players named above but none of them are your future…. Okafor & Noel are the future of that organization….

Dude Covington isn’t a bum… You need role players, not every player is going to be a "star". He had 8 steals last game to go along with 25 points.

7 more steals tonight. That gives him 21 over the last 3 games.

It had to be hard to get any continued effort out of these guys when the know they are not wanted to win.  It is hard to keep positive when the losing mentality is so strong.

Thank you. I need posts and posters with respect like this for my sanity. That bum Covington followed up his 8 steal performance with 7 steals. Great effort guys! We’ll get that W soon.

when that game was on the line…. He would be bolted to the bench on ANY other team in the league & I don’t believe he could even make any other roster…. They play the worst defense I have ever seen & the coach is garbage…. I’m sorry the truth hurts but they are 0 -18!

The League should Force them to sign real players….

Brett Brown is not a rubbish coach. He’s actually a very good coach as evidenced by the fact that the 76ers are still playing hard in the midst of yet another losing season. If Pop coached the 76ers, they would still be this bad.

When you say sign real players are you referring to the superstars who would not play for the sixers even before the rebuild or the mid tier players who would plunge them into mediocrity with no hope of competing anyway?

Vets …. just like the knicks did… Of course no good players will go there…. & I realize the Sixers don’t have a Melo & the team can even still tank…… but Canaan, McConnell, Covington, Thompson, Sampson, etc are D- League players…..

The O.G. thread saying they play good defense can Not be serious….. They play the WORST defense I have EVER seen…. & that is not hyperbole…. Isaiah Canaan dribbles the ball for 20 seconds around the perimeter (b/c he is totally unable to penetrate) & then jacks up a bad 25 foot brick…. then jogs down the other end & does not even Try to play defense….. & the same can be said for the rest of the garbage players I mentioned….

Anyone who says Covington can play defense is either not watching the games or is on medication for Self Delsuion…. Someone has to score those points…. so when Indiana or Charlotte or Orlando is up 30 points Early in the 3rd qtr they just let the Sixers take some open shots & someone scores some points….

Any time the game is close, the opponent just wakes up from their slumber & crushes them – just like Memphis did last night & crushes them….

I feel Terrible for you Sixers fans, I really do… I give you High Marks as fans… B/c Most fans jump ship the Second their team isn’t doing well… You guys are Loyal & Admirable…. but if the Sixers were dissolved tomorrow Okafor & Noel are the Only players who ANY other team would want & Grant could get 5 – 10 min a game on a bad team’s bench….

The Sixers are 0-18 & the are being Blown off the court by Below .500 teams…. How anyone can defend that is nuts…. I realize the Bynum trade sunk your franchise… But bring in a few Average Vets to at least be respectable & win 25 games – you will STILL finish in last place….

Such an ignorant statement, you obviously haven’t watched the Sixers much this year because aside from a couple blowouts they have been in close games time and time again. Sometimes I don’t understand the constant hate, they chose to rebuild this way and they are staying true to it.

& I would wager that you are the one who is not watching…. Can you seriously say this team plays Defense??? Okafor is getting killed in the national press & he’s leading the team in blocks…. but there is not much he or Noel can do b/c the lane from the top of the key in is like a Wide Open runway for the other team…..

Canaan & McConnell are just Too small to guard Anyone… Canaan does not even try….. Stauskus is too slow & can not guard Anyone at the NBA level…. Sampson, Thompson & Covington are below average defenders at Best….

Noel’s blocks per game has dropped from 2.5 to 1.0 b/c there’s just nothing he or Okafor can do when their man draws them out of the lane & Canaan or McConnell’s man just blows thru the lane w/ a head of steam….

They make ZERO adjustments in those close games… I’ll give you a perfect example… The minnesota game Okafor just Destroyed Towns at both ends…. Phila is Winning the game late… They put Grant on Wiggins 1 v 1…. Instead of backing off & forcing Wiggins to take an outside shot, Wiggins blows by Grant off the Dribble SEVEN consecutive possessions & either scores or gets fouled

SEVEN straight possessions!!!!! & Wiggins just keeps doing it until Minnesota takes the lead & Phila NEVER does Anything different….

& then at the Other end w/ Wiggins wiping out there lead… Instead of getting the Ball to Okafor (who could have scored 40 EASY) – they Never get the ball to Okafor – instead they run ISO"s for Grant who is NOT a scorer!! When that doesn’t work after 3 straight possessions they basically say Uck it & have Covington or Canaan just dribble around the perimeter (B/c they can Not penetrate) until the shot clock is about to expire & then just chuck a brick from 25 feet….

I realize they have Zero talent – but Fundamentals are basic & Anyone can do Basic things like BALL MOVEMENT!!! The Sixers do NONE of these things…. There was an article in the Phila Dailly News just yesterday that stated that Brett Brown is On his Own…. Hinkie does not even watch the games…..

So don;t tell me about they are "trying hard & staying in games…" That Entire organization is an Embarrassment to the NBA…. This Process is Not working – it’s a joke… It’s obvious the players just don;t care…. & I imagine that Noel & Okafor (& Embiid) have already told their agents "Get Me the UCK out of here!)

The Sixers badly need to fill out at least the back end of the roster with a few veterans.  This is a new lifestyle for the kids.  I remember being 20 pretty well and being enabled to do whatever I wanted while englulfed in a culture of failure without any mentorship from those who’ve been through the grind would have proved toxic.  This rebuild reminds me a great deal of the post-Jordan Bulls complete teardown that yeilded high picks and low results for years.

They are 10-8 in keeping games within 10 points. Yay energy!

This is year 3, and there is really no reason to pay attention to what is happening on the court for the rest of this season. At what point does Hinkie have to move them forward? Having a plan is not an accomplishment, and I think some of his defenders miss that point.

The scarier and bigger picture aspect of what is taking place is that there is a lack of pressure. The owner is not losing money over this because the payroll is minimal and the shared league revenues covers them. If you believe Forbes, and after some financials of MLB teams leaked showed they are pretty accurate, Philadelphia had an operating income of $24.4 million a couple years ago. This is only going to increase when they do their next release because none of the costs or shared revenues have changed dramatically. If there is no pressure or accountability being applied to management, then the NBA might have its version of the Marlins on its hands. By going at it in this extreme manner, they are abusing the financial and draft systems that were set up to increase league-wide competitiveness. Well run teams like San Antonio, OKC, and Indiana are not in cities that could be as effective as they are if not for these aids. It is one thing for a team to determine it needs to start over, but it is another to say we aren’t going to try again until we know we can’t fail.
