chrsw003ParticipantOk big Hawks fan and watch basically every game the Hawks play and I do not get the love fest for Horford. He literally has no post moves. He never scores with his back to the basket and can’t create anything. When he tries a post move he throws up some bullshit shot that doesn’t even come close. 99% of his baskets come from WIDE open jumpers bc Teague/Schroder/Millsap make a play and draw the double team and Horford is left wide open. He gets some rebounds and putbacks which is good, but Its really frustrating watching him play. Not to mention opposing centers go off on us every night. Im not saying hes bad, Bc hes a pretty good player. Im just saying I wouldnt be the team to give him 150 mil or whatever hes gonna get this off season. Not worth that money let some other team pay him.

Arc12345ParticipantAlso an avid Hawks fan. I think you’re not understanding what kind of center Horford is. He’s not a traditional big that does his damage in the post like Al Jefferson. He’s more of a finesse big that scores more in the way of today’s power forward. He does crash the boards hard and rebounds well. Everyone says really not a center, and it’s true.
He’s a good player as you’ve said, and he fits in really well with this team. I would personally rather have Horford than Millsap, but that’s just my opinion. I think Horford being able to guard both the 4 and 5 is valuable, where as Millsap is really best defending the 4 and a little small to defend the 5. And he definitely can’t guard the 3. Overall, I like Horford. He’s definitely a piece to have on a championship caliber team.

chrsw003ParticipantI know hes not a traditional center. Like I said hes good. He could be wayyy better if he developed a post game. He might be able to guard 4 & 5’s but that doesn’t mean he does it good. The other teams big men usually go off. I would much rather have Millsap. MMillsap creates for others and himself, he makes his teammates better , hes a basketball player. Horford has to have someone create for him so he can get his wide open mid range j. Watch him when hes posting up its comical. I just think he could be much better than he is, but hes been in the league for however long by now so I don’t see him getting much better at this point. He is what he is and I don’t think he’s worth max money. Especially when he’ll be in his 30’s for basically the full length of the contract. Hes to mechanical/robotic just go play. It looks like hes thinking too much out there. Im not exaggerating about his back to the basket game, It’s terrible. I don’t want him to change his game but it would be nice to have something to compliment the J or something to go to when the shots not falling.

frogmanParticipantTo be fair 95% of the league’s big men would be wayyy better if they developed a jump shot. But the way the game is evolving it is the jump shooting big men that can spread the floor for the guards are what teams are now craving.

PulseGlazerParticipantHe’s a 4 with the versatility to start and be well above average as a 5. He hold the entire defense together and his jumpshot, while not relaible to three, is absolutely key to their spacing. He’s the single biggest difference between the 40 wins bottom of the playoffs Hawks and the 50+ wins they get now. Is he a great scorer? No, but he is certainly an All Star level player.

Arc12345ParticipantI watch almost all of them and have for awhile now. Horford has steadily improved, and means a great deal to this team.
The Hawks bigs (Horford and Millsap) can hold their own against anyone in the league. All they need is some help on the wing to be fighting Cleveland in the East. But they probably won’t make a trade.

HitsterParticipantHorford has had injury issues and is perhaps more a natural PF but he has been a triple All Star for the Hawks and more importantly has been back to his best form and injury free over the last season and a bit. So he will be a sought after FA next summer and the Hawks will no doubt want to keep him.
He will be 30 next summer so this will likely be his last really big deal so all sides will look to get it right. I’d guess he’d like to remain at the Hawks and they would pay him well, something similar to what Millsap got would seem fair.
