why is paul pierce playing

Just watched them and witnessed how Steph torch them with 40 points. Warriors are owning the NBA. Chuck could shut his mouth now.

But I think the Clippers lost this…   They allowed Golden State back in it and couldn’t keep the lead (they were up by 20).  So, to say they "owned" them is a stretch…  They were losing for majority of the game and didn’t take the lead until 2:53 left in the 4th quarter…  I think what the Clippers did beginning of the game will probably be the blue print to stopping Steph & Co.

Also, PP probably didn’t play well, but he was moving well.   I haven’t seen him that quick in years (quick for PP that is).

 I think Pierce def. took a step back, but I don’t think he’s the reason for the Clippers struggles. He brings a lot of value to the team, as he’s one of the best leaders in the NBA, and his ability to create his own shot still is going to pay dividends once the playoffs start, and the game slows down. He’s someone who you can rely on to come up big, and make the right play. Hi defense isn’t great, but come on, the Clippers are 26th in the entire NBA in Defense. Pierce oddly enough has one of the higher DRtg amoungst the Clipper rotation players oddly enough at 108. 

You see this with every championship contender really, they sign a vet, and hope his experience pays off. I know the Derrek Fisher attempt with the Thunder was a disaster, but I see Pierce more of in the mold of the Lindsey Hunter, Steve Kerr role where he’s just expected to come in for 15-20 minutes and make the right play. It worked for the Pistons and the Spurs, and this Clippers have just as much talent as those two teams did, so it’s just a matter of if the personal can make it work. I see no reason why a CP3, Lance, Pierce, Blake, Deandre lineup wouldn’t work offensively and defensively, but when the two most used lineups with Pierce are a combination of:

Rivers/Crawford/Pierce/Smith and Crawford/Smith/Pierce/Johnson it’s kind of easy to point to those lineups and wonder what in the hell is going through Docs head. Pierce should be playing support minutes with Starters so he can play off of them, not with players who suffocate the offense, and do nothing on defense.

Leadership is always a desired trait in a roster. I’m sure his minutes will be decreased as the season goes by.

 Leadership and his ability to counted on in big game situations isn’t something that can be taught. Just his presense in the locker room goes a long way. He obviously isn’t the player he once was, but he doesnt just get paid for what he does on the court.
