Stop_basketball_nonsenseParticipantSo yep he is gone. Since I haven’t had the chance to watch any rockets games so far this season, it seems I am.forced to ask what is going on with them? I know they are not the only good western conference team to struggle along with Memphis, and my pick Sacramento to make the playoffs. Still what is going on with houston, when I look at the box scores ty Lawson is not only shooting the ball below his standards, but he isn’t getting shots. I know t.Jones hasn’t been completely healthy, neither has Dwight, and monteijunas isn’t back yet, and harden seems to be shooting a lot, but can anybody give me some logical unbiased input?

whiteflashParticipantHarden drobbles the ball for 20 seconds before forcing up a contested shot, bulling his way to the rack looking for a ref bailout, or throwing a last second pass to a teamate who’s gorced into a rushed shot. He is completely ineffective without the ball, so they’re back to him bringing it up most of the time basically rendering Lawson useless. Everyone basically atands around with no movement while Harden takes bad shot after bad shot, and there’s no movement with or without the ball. Their defense has also been pretty bad, which is a huge problem ’cause Harden can’t guard his own shadow so they surround hom with quality defenders to hide him. I’ve lived in Houston all my life and can’t for the life of me figure out why Harden gets so much praise.

rtbtParticipantWow! The analysis from Whiteflash was right on the money. Nobody listens, but that’s exactly what I’ve been saying about Houston, the lack of ball movement, and the fact that Harden is an offensive weapon but overrated.

whiteflashParticipantAlso, sorry for all of the spelling errors in that post. Was typing from my phone while at work and apparently couldn’t hit the right buttons. My typing was almost as bad as Harden’s jumper…

NBAjunkie81Participantattempts per game…. Those are Allen Iverson levels…. So yes he is a great scorer but he has to doiminate the ball to get those numbers – so your teammates stop moving b/c there is no ball movement….. & b/c they are not rewarded on the offensive side…. They slow down on the Defensive end….. & in the playoffs it is much harder to get those calls b/c the Refs allow a more physical, grinding half court brand of basketball…. The Rockets are learning what Phila did w/ Iverson…. It is Very hard to win long term when one man needs to have the ball in his hands for that much of the shot clock…. Harden avg 4.3 FTA in OKC – he’s at 9.5 w/ Houston & so far this year he is at 10.9! In the History of the NBA only Wilt Chamberlain averaged over 10 free throws per game….

ThepessimestParticipantI have been saying this same thing as I watch them play. They had no defensive principles that they played by. And offensively they don’t run anything. Reminds me of AAU basketball. Iso iso iso iso or high ball screens. SMH

Magic JordanParticipantThe most disturbing fact about this is that Kevin Mchale was fired before Byron Scott, who Mchale would coach circles around.

shonu44ParticipantWhen are they going to start firing more Gm’s? The Gm’s have been playing Russian Roulett with owners money for a long time now. It’s the coach fault that the Gm has brought in the wrong guys. Then the Gm fires the coach to save his job by putting blame on the coach. I sometime see why coaches want control of the players they bring in for this simply reason. Owner refuse to believe sometimes that bad business start from up top sometimes and roll down hill. Kevin is a good coach and didn’t deserve to be someone scapegoat

whiteflashParticipantI like Morey, but he puts WAY too much emphasis on analytics instead of what actually happens on the floor. Basketball is a very simple game. There’s no point in trying to fix what isn’t broken, and that’s exactly what the analytics gimmick is trying to do.
0- Posted on: Wed, 11/18/2015 - 9:31am #1025386

ChoppyParticipantSurely though, analytics would point out Harden’s glaring deficiencies on the defensive end? If so, Morey has been ignoring that aspect of analytics and only going with what he wants to see. Harden is so ridiculously overrated it’s not even funny anymore.

whiteflashParticipantI’m obviously not Morey, but I imagine he believed that if he surrounded Harden with a bunch of 3&D guys, rebounders and the right system then what the analytics has shown offensively would prove to be champ caliber.

ballislyfe25ParticipantHarden definitely isn’t rediculously overrated. He’s clearly the best 2 in the league and was the best player on a team that was a few wins away from the NBA Finals.

whiteflashParticipantLet’s look at the facts: Houston was the sixth seed with ywo weeks to go when every other big WC team decided to sit their starters and the Rockets snuck into 2nd place, then they play a beat up Mavs, then a Clippers team that was considerably better but got cocky and overlooked Houston before Houston ran into GS and got their asses handed to ’em, all the while Harden took really bad shots, played no D and kept calling himself "the best player in the world."

bumbleb33ParticipantNot to mention they only beat the clippers cos Mchale had the balls to bench Harden cos he was bricking non stop.

MopgrassParticipantdon’t like Harden because he’s a foul hunter. Usually I’d say, “Good for you, take advantage of how the system is set up.” But really, refs just aren’t doing their job and applying the system correctly. Harden’s just repeatedly running into other players and refs are calling it his way. Seemingly, every time. I don’t know if I’m madder at the officiating or Harden. Just call a charge a charge. Then there’s the crying. He cries every time they don’t call a foul when he bulldozes into someone. It’s hard to stomach the injustice.
They also need to start calling fouls on Lou Williams for jumping into people. Fouls were meant as justice for the player who was “wronged,” not for the perpetrator.

ExumInfernoParticipantMcHale certainly got the Rockets deep into the playoffs last year.
He can coach. But maybe a few players on his team have become uncoachable.
I am sure he could be a fun commentator to listen to. There would be other teams happy to employ him too. As an assistant coach, teaching players how to score inside, he could be very valuable.
Commentating would be good for McHale, he is very entertaining.
Since the players moved out a coach wh tried to be ncie to them, the Rockets now need to bring in someone who will make them play right and defend. Thibs might be an option.
Right now, the Rockets miss the defense of P Beverley.
McHale did not deserve to be fired. Interesting to see what happens now. The GM there, lost Parsons, fired the coach, didn’t manage to sign that one extra big name like Bosh or Carmelo, the GM and players have all the pressure now.

SubZeroParticipantSo is there anywhere McHale can go? Would Sacramento be a good fit? (I’m really just looking for anyone other than George Karl to coach that team)

HitsterParticipantThibs is available and would seem a safe choice if he wanted to return to the bench at this time. He’d probably get the best out of D12 too.
As regards McHale, he’ll doubtless get a lot of tv offers and has a lot of contacts in the game if he wished to look for another role. He has strong links with T-Wolves and after Flip’s passing, a consultant role their could be a goer as long as McHale doesn’t get involved with personnel matters too much.
He is also widely regarded as a very good coach of big men so alongside KG scould help KAT to develop. Also perhaps might Philly give him a call to work with Okafor and Noel.
