SubZeroParticipantAs a Kentucky fan, I couldn’t be more excited to get this guy locked up. Hoopmixtape just put out a new highlight video of him today, and to me he really seems like a lefty version of John Wall, except maybe less creative around the rim from what I’ve seen. What are y’all’s comparisons, evaluations, and/or expectations of him?

ChicagoCaseyParticipantGreat player. He seems like a combination of Brandon Knight and John Wall. I believe he’s the second best point guard in the class behind Malik Monk (Yes I believe he will become s point guard). He’s the best perimeter defender in this years class, along with Josh Jackson.
He will be great for Kentucky. He’s the ideal point guard to run the Kentucky offense and him and Malik Monk can potentially play together (247Sports have him going to Kentucky as well) and have the best backcourt in Kentucky history (Yes better than the John Wall and Eric Bledsoe backcourt)
I do believe if Malik Monk commits the Kentucky they should be the frontrunners to win the championship, I will say otherwise if Josh Jackson commits to Michigan State. I believe a elite backcourt is more valuable than a elite frontcourt (Duke).

Jr. ROXASParticipantNo disrespect, did the ACL injury of Dennis Smith affect your ranking of him? I got mine Smith, Monk and then Fox. But can’t go wrong with either of them.

ChicagoCaseyParticipantThe ACL did not affect my rankings. I believe Monk have the most potential out of all the point guards in the class, maybe all point guards regardless of class (I really like Trevon Duval). He have explosiveness and he’s the most explosive scorer in the class. I watched a lot of his games on the EYBL website and he can get hot quick. He shot about 37% from the three point line on the circuit while being doubled and not really getting any open looks. He rapidly improving his point guard skills as well.
I saw De’Aaron Fox vs. Dennis Smith when Smith went to he EYBL for a circuit with Team Penny. Fox outplayed him that day and I really like him more as a prospect than I like Smith. He have the physical profile, athletic profile, and he can really run a team. The only thing that is missing from his game is the fact that he’s not a good stand still three point shooter, he can make jumpers of the bounce though.
Those three point guards are interchangeables depending on what you like about them. I view prospects off of what I believe them to be as an NBA prospect, not really towards high school and college.
A name that I would put into the group of Malik Monk, De’Aaron Fox, and Dennis Smith is Markelle Fultz. Markelle Fultz reminds me of D’Angelo Russell with better quickness and athleticism.

bdiddy5115ParticipantWhile his body definitely hasn’t developed enough to completely warrant the comparison yet, I see more Westbrook in Fox than anyone else. He’s completely relentless in transition, and is developing a pretty impressive intermediate game. He also has shut-down defensive potential, which Westbrook has when he’s not completely expending himself on O. He also looks for his own shot slightly more than Wall, but I do see some high-level playmaking potential from him when you factor in his penetrating ability.
In other words, this was a huge get for UK. Monk is the best scorer in the class and is relentless in his own right, and him teamed with Fox would be an incredibly explosive backcourt. I think Killeya-Jones has a ton of potential and Gabriel is a 5* guy as well. That’s a great, great class, especially when you factor in that many were saying ’17 would be a down year for UK recruiting (even in such a talent-rich year). Not to mention they still have a few other 5* and 4* guys on their radar, and they’ll always snag at least 1-2 of those late.
As for the best guard in this class, I think you could make a strong case for Smith Jr., Fox or Monk. I’d probably lean Smith if it weren’t for the injury, but I recently tore my ACL (plus meniscus and MCL) playing ball and I know first hand how difficult the recovery is, and for a guy as explosive as Smith, I worry about the effects on his bounce.
