OhCanada-ParticipantSacramento’s team is not coming together well. A lot of people had them as a dark horse out West but whether you use injuries as an excuse or overall team chemistry or coaching it just isn’t working and doesn’t seem like it will.
What’s going on in New Orleans. Davis had a terrible opening night against GSW but other than that he has been playing lights out. Firing Monty Williams is looking like a bad move right now.
The league is starting to even out. The Eastern conference is still weaker than the West yet the amount of lay down victories are low. Most teams are going to compete on any given night and the West is stacked. This years playoff race will be fun.
Memphis isn’t a powerhouse. Maybe they are coming out of the gates slow yet they don’t have that intimidating presence they have always had.

DukeDaSquadParticipantSac has competed with GSW and LAC without their best player. Not saying they would win with him there but they are a much better team than last year.
I liked Monty as the head coach for the Pelicans and they made the playoffs in the tough west so it was a pretty bad time to fire him imo. I think they just went after the assistant coach on the championship team because they believe he’s a good coach but the GSW system doesn’t even work with this team… It doesn’t work with any other team than GSW because no one shoots as well as steph.
Another thing is Anthony Davis has not been playing well even though you think he has. I thought he was just gonna dominate the league right out the gate this season but he has struggled. The organization had him working on his perimeter game instead of his post game. He was already a really good midrange shooter last season. Probably should have invested some time and money to work with Hakeem. I do think he will pick it up though.
i have no idea what’s wrong with the Grizzlies. Haven’t really watched the games but I known they’ve been blown out miserable a couple times. I think that probably their defense has regressed and their offense has never really been good they would just beat teams by stopping them from scoring a lot of points.

adumParticipantMy observations
Rookies
I cannot remember a time where a rookie class has played so well out of the gates. Night after night this guys are out performing all expectations and doing so in spectacular fashion.
KAT is a certified star a future All NBA type guy.
The Knicks look like they’ve struck gold with KP who looks like he’s way ahead of schedule.
Okafor is adjusting to NBA centers and posting great numbers.
Suprise Teams
The Blazers are playing great under Coach Stotts
The Nets really really really miss Deron Williams for some reason
Detroit looks like they are slowly building a culture that matches there city

T RexI observe that Olynyk is the top rated defender in the NBA, with the lowest opposent fg% inside of 8 feet, and the highest rate of steals per 36, and the lowest foul rate of anybody with more than 11 cumulative minutes, and the 6th highest Net Rating.
His Real Plus Minus is probably top 10 in the NBA, after finishing T-32nd in the NBA last year.

T RexMyles Turner isn’t as agile as I thought he would be based on high school tape and testing negative for structural issues with his gait.
Porzingis is much more agile and light on his feet, which I think is part of why Porzingis is rebounding so much better.
But just about every single night, Myles Turner is knocking down his long 2 point jumpers like he’s Rashard Lewis. Just the most effortless, self-assured shot with the softest touch.
I’m sticking with my pre-draft prediction that Myles will end up Pat Ewing level, and Porzingis will end up Hakeem/KG level with a chance at GOAT.
As Turner fills out, and becomes a full-time center, his lack of quickness, should it persist despite strength improvement, will not be much of an issue. He’s already blocking shots like a boss as far as I can tell.

T RexRondae Hollis-Jefferson is having a Winslow like impact on the Nets. Despite their terrible play so far, RHJ unbelievably has a +2 +/- per game, higher per 36.
RHJ looking like a future lotto pick in re-drafts, and he seems to have more potential than Winslow because he’s a quicker, more explosive athlete.

DolanCareParticipant1) With the risk of sounding like a smug troll, I saw the ‘Sacremento dark-house’ chatter as borderline laughable from the get go. News flash to all hoop heads: Rondo is no longer 2009 Rondo. And with sophistacated Thibsy defenses becoming the new norm he’s shooting horribleness is an increasing liability. Sacarmento’s big three is Cousins, Gay and Rondo- that’s a problem even in the Eastern Conference.
2) As for the missing Monty sentiment, slooooooow down. Just stop completely. The Pelicans are ravished with injuries. While Tyreke may be a clunky fit for this team, he’s critical to moving the offense along. The second playmaker they have is Holiday who is on a strict minutes cap. This team is hurting, I wrote a post about this last week.
3) The East is still trash. The rise of Detroit, Orlando and maybe even New York has dulled the conference disparity to some degree, but alas the East is still trash.
4) Memphis is a good team, but they are head and shoulders below the elite teams in this league. They need to either make a move to contend, or make a mvoe to rebuild. Their current construction leaves them where you do not want to be in the NBA.

RioRepParticipantI understand you really like Porzingis. I Like him too. I don’t write a lot of posts, I prefer to follow you guys comments. But I actually wrote one some four months ago about Porzingis and I’m pretty happy that what said back then is happening now with him putting good numbers much earlier than expected. So I agree with you that he’s got a bright future.
But I have to tell you. All your posts just trying to emphasize your somewhat polemic points about Porzingis, Olynik, Smart, Turner, Oubre and now RHJ are becoming kind of boring and ridiculous.
The GOAT is a guy named Michael Jeffrey Jordan and probably will always be. Do us all and yourself a favour and shut up about it already.

T RexThere will be another GOAT, and he will be a better 3 point shooter than Jordan.
There’s even the Phil Jackson link between MJeffrey and KrissKross
If Phil sticks around, the chips could start to accumulate, especially in the east.
This Knicks team is built for the playoffs too, with all the tough bigs they have, Fisher as coach, and Jerian Grant is very much in the Chauncey Billups mold.
One month ago most thought it was absurd that Porzingis could even play PF in the NBA. Now he’s a stand out starting PF, and all the Knicks fans that booed him are buying his jersey.
Jordan had a good run. Porzingis is playing like a DPOY candidate as a barely 20 year old. MJ was still living in the dorms at the same age.

ZachAttackParticipantIt takes A LOT to be the GOAT. And unfortunately for you, Kristaps doesn’t have that. I mean, as good as he’s playing (yes I’m agreeing with T Rex… Shocker) he isn’t as good as MJ. Michael Jordan started out as great. I mean, look at his statline compared to Porzingis
MJ: 28.2 ppg 6.5 Rebounds 5.9 Assists and 2.4 Steals. And that was back in the 1980’s when Defense mattered. You should know all about that
KP: 12.3 ppg 8.3 Rebounds 9.7 Assists and 1.5 steals per game with 1.2 Blocks per game.
Now hold up, I know what your next argument is. That’s fantasy stats not to worry though.
Here’s the Chicago Bulls record before and after MJ. The Bulls went from 27-55 to 38-44. All because of one player. And they didn’t have any decent pick ups in that offseason.
The New York Knicks record? 17-65. And while I believe that the Knicks will be better than last year. Unless they’re like 30 – 40 wins better, we can’t put that on Porzingis. Last year, the Knicks lost Carmelo for most of the season. And this year, he’s back and better than ever. So we can’t only base their win percentage on Zinger
So, even though we’re just looking at stats, MJ was far superior. KP may be good, may be an All-Star, but never the GOAT.

T RexNever is a dumb word.
You’re already getting defensive because you know he has a chance.
You’re so defensive that you’re comparing Kristaps’ stats at barely 20 y.o. to Jordan’s career stats, even though Jordan was still in college at the same age Kristaps is now.
Kristaps is already dominant on one side of the ball, defense. And he’s so long and coordinated and smart that he’s completely unblockable, whether at the 3 point line or in the post.
You’re looking at a one of a kind player, part Dirk and part Bill Russell.
Get used to this guy, because he’s taking over the league within 2 years, if not sooner.
His post game hasn’t even been a focus for him yet, and he’ll probably be 255 lbs by next summer. And you know he’ll be in the gym every day.
Dude faced down an arena full of booing fans of his new team, and he didn’t even flinch.
Because he knew what I knew.

ZachAttackParticipantLook it up. Those were MJ’s Rookie Stats. C’mon before you even reply, read my post. And also, I believe that this debate would be a good time to use the word never when we’re comparing the GOAT, to Porzingis. You also said that players don’t just magically gain 20 pounds. So, I guess Wiggins can’t but Porzingis can?

T RexYeah, it’s not magic to gain 20 lbs when you’re 7’3 and still/just stopped growing.
Wiggins stopped growing height wise about 3 years ago.
Wiggins can probably gain 20 lbs over the next few years, but he’ll still be 220, and that’s not for a few years.
Wolves finally figured it out and stopped playing him at SF, which was my whole point.

RioRepParticipantwhen we’re talking about Jordan. There’ll never be another player like him, simply because the world will never be the same. When he, Magic and Bird came out NBA basketball was suffering. They completely changed the landacape of the sport in a wordly scale. Especially Jordan.
I know you like stats. Especially the ones you can bend to fit your arguments. It’s not because of stats that Jordan is and will always be the best. It’s because he symbolizes so much in the history of sports that noone that comes after him can be able to achieve that much. Not in a world with so many options and informations being bombarded in our heads every milisecond.
As for Porzingis, again, me too was betting on him from the very beginning. He’ll be an outstanding player. But not because you nor I said so. Because he loves to play, he’s humble and yet fiersome. He’s talented but will continue to work hard. I see in him the same qualities you see. And am thrilled to expect to witness his efforts towards greatness. The difference between you and me is that I don’t want this to happen to prove people wrong or to feel better about myself. I want it to happen for the sake of the sport I love: Basketball.

T RexThis is another issue I have. MJ came into the league 5-6 years after Bird and Magic, and David Stern came into the NBA just as belatedly.
The NBA mafia LOVES depicting David Stern as the genius who pulled the NBA out of obscurity, along with Michael cash cow Jordan. The fact is O’Brien was the commissioner during the revival and frenzy of the 80s, along with Bird and Jordan.
David Stern waltzed into a league that was already thriving, and already a cash cow. But of course since he’s a made man in the sports mafia that runs all major sports leagues out of one lawfirm, his fellow tribesmen try to paint him as the guy responsible for the 80s resurgence of the league.
What Stern was really responsible for, through special treatment of Michael Jordan like giving him every conceivable foul, was to shift the marketing of the NBA from TEAM rivalries to STAR rivalries, just like the WWF. And Jordan was his Hulk Hogan.
A celebration of egomania rather than a celebration of teamwork and brotherhood.
Star fouls, and star glorification, were not necessarily good for the game, at least to basketball purists. It led to the pampered whining crybabies we see today, and the Iversonization of basketball.
There’s actually a lot more behind it, too. Conspiracy stuff involving the social engineering of a divided and alienated country of isolated, narcissistic individuals.
Now most fans switch teams every couple years, as their favorite players chase a better situation. No loyalty.

HeroescantdieParticipantI’m surprised how the rookie point guards struggle compared to rookie bigs.
Mudiay and Russell struggling at the start of the season while Okafor porzingis and towns are all playing well.
To me that’s a surprise, Big men usually needs time to be ready, while guards adjusts faster than bigs, considering it’s a point guard league now. Maybe the point guard position is the deepest in the league. while Bigs, there are a few good one out there.

You have officially ruined this site. I used to log onto this site excited to see some thoughtful basketball talk, debates, discussions, rumours, and thoughts. Now I log on trying to avoid your posts and hoping if I create a thread it doesn’t turn into a debate on whether Porzingis will become the best player ever.
So congratulations. The one free thing that I look forward to doing after work aside from fantasy basketball has been ruined. You have ruined it. Also to all the posters who respond to his stupidity like ZachAttack…please stop it. T-Rex uses these stupid comparisons anf predictions to as bait to fish with, each time you argue you are being reeled in. It’s so annoying. Why even respond your just feeding his immaturity.

T-Rex uses these stupid comparisons anf predictions to as bait to fish with, each time you argue you are being reeled in. It’s so annoying. Why even respond your just feeding his immaturity.

nill650Participantdont sleep on russell now that he took over fro clarkson at the point. yes the lakers suck…but he could improve much faster once kobe lets go.
I like Hezonja despite harris in the way, i like portis despite the logjam in chi, i like stanley johnsons immediate impact, i like porzingas quieting the naysayers, i’d like to see vaughn get some damn playing time, i like the offense running through okafor, i like mudiay struggling and believe he will overcome it quickly,I like what i see from kaminsky, i like what i see from oubre…but aside from the shoe in townes as the roy..i think winslow could start killing it pretty soon.i like the understated impact that walter tavares would be having if atl would give him some damn pt blah blah blah.
i have not been to overly impressed with many others , but most others are not playing much yet.
i think the biggest busts of this draft 3 yrs from now will have been lyles, anderson and hunter.
