Will they make teams rethink that it’s better to draft one and done players as opposed to three and four year players who are more of a sure thing?  Their three best players (Curry, Thompson, and Green) played three, three, and four years of college basketball, respectively.

I don’t think so. I think the only thing the Warriors have done for the rest of the league draft wise, is make them rethink who they draft. They made them scrutinize their picks before they make them. Many teams will still draft one and done players, but these one and done players are ones that the team has scrutinized to the highest level. In a sense they helped the entire league become smarter draft wise. That’s both good and bad.

The Warriors just drafted who they thought was the best player available for their team. And they’ve done that every year since 2009. (ok they missed one in 2010 with Ekpe Udoh, but no team is perfect. You’re going to make mistakes, you just have to build from them and capitalize on your opponents mistakes, and they’ve excelled at that) In a sense, I think that’s what the rest of the league is learning how to do: pick who they think is the best player available for their team. If it happens to be a one and done player or a seasoned veteran (college wise, 3-4 years) then so be it.

no way..teams will always go for the best available player..you’re saying you would draft someone like shane battier over a kevin durant…..some teams adjust their style of play to the talent on their roster….

I’m not saying that a team should pick Shane Battier over Kevin Durant.  What I’m saying is that the Warriors have shown that it may be better to pick a three or four year player who is already a good player versus a one and done player who you hope will be a good player.

the only thing that they may have caused people to rethink their theory of older players having less potential but that still happens anyways… Steph and Thompson were both noted for their shooting abilities in college so that hasn’t changed much in the nba but they have made improvements to their games. Steph improved his handles and shot off dribble. He is also much quicker and can beat guys off the dribble. Better passer now also. thompson has improved off the dribble and defensively. Draymond has always played hard and he continues to do so.  he has extended his range out to the 3 point line…

These guys have made more improvements to their games than some guys that have have been labeled as having more potential than them.

Since the start of the new millenium, only four of the sixteen championship teams were lead by a one and done or high school player.

Kobe and LeBron.  I considered Paul Pierce to be the leader of the Celtics.

I think you have to gamble in the beginning of your rebuilding process with first or second year players, hoping they break-out. After that you should aim for more mature players who can contribute during their entire rookie contract, instead of starting to perform as soon as they are eligeble for a raise. GSW has been lucky with Curry especially, but after that they aimed for talented players who did their maturing mostly in college, as opposed as sitting on the bench in the NBA

The Warriors should be thankful that they had the Grizzlies drafting ahead of them in a couple of those years.

They are lucky because Steph hit his UPSIDE target and even hit that out of the stratosphere.  Klay Thompson reached maximum upside potential, and Draymond Green is pretty much doing the same thing.

They won the lottery 3 times.

What I think they DID do is they got their SUPERSTAR (Steph Curry) then built the perfect team around him…

Getting the FIRST GUY is the toughest, but you then have to get lucky and assemble a core around that TOP GUY.  The Warriors did it right (or got lucky, whatever).

The Thunder got TWO guys like that in Durant and Westbrook, but it remains to be seen if they can deliver a title.

They get knocked for trading the Thunder, but yeah, they probably couldn’t sign him.  And, he has maximized his stats on the Rockets.  As a third option, he wouldn’t have quite the stuff stat sheet.

But, hey, the Thunder passed on Steph Curry too…

What about a Big Three or Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry?

    Wow.

Everyone forgets this, but player work ethic, a team with a plan, and a nurturing enviornment all mean as much as "potential."  Curry, Klay, Draymond, Kawhai, Splitter, Parker, Manu, Giannis, all the Jazz kids… guys that go to these situations succeed for a reason, while like, everyone who isn’t nearly transcendent (Cousins) on teams like the Kings just flames out.
