the boston celtics announce they have waived 6’11 forward perry jones….jones averaged 2 pts/1rbs in 5 games this preseason….jones lost a very close cousin a few weeks ago and said he never got into a groove…

jones is a talented kid,but doesnt show the aggressiveness or passion ..maybe some coach will bring it out of him…some team will snag him up soon..3 teams have the cap space to sign him utah,76’ers,portland…5 teams have the te to sign him cavs, nets, bucks,gs & minn…

this isnt a surprise to some who follow the team, becuz jones was on the outside looking in…if he had jae crowder’s heart,he would be an all star….

I really wish Boston had room to carry him through the season.  He had the versatility to thrive in Brad Stevens system.  In the end there just wasn’t enough time or room for him to make his case to stay on the roster.  I saw somebody yesterday say he has "Jeff Green Syndrome" because of his lack of aggressiveness on the court.

secretly I bet a lot of gms are elated they eliminated high schoolers from entering the draft!!!!! because guys like perry jones Cliff Alexander ,Renardo Sidney ,the Harrison twins and a lot of others that looked like future stars in high school would’ve made them looked silly for taking them high in the lottery!!!!!!! lol

I remember back in college, Tristan Thompson just ate him up in a Texas-Baylor game. Ran right past him even though Jones is much faster. Any NBA team that thought Jones would suddenly figure it out in the pros was foolish, but I hope he catches on somewhere.

He is kind of a product of going to the wrong school. Baylor gets all types of talents… But no one really ever seems to be ready to be a nba player.

Jones just needs time sriously!! Remember that 2-game stretch where we thought he was finally gonna get it together? Had 32 points vs the Clips. And then, as what always happens to young players with potential, he gets injured. It was the best time for him to show his skills with KD and Russ injured then he sprained his freakin knee! Imagine the contract he would be getting now if he was able to play the 3 weeks without KD and Russ.

lol.  A 2 game stretch vs the rest of his career, college included.  It’s ok to give up on players who have proven over and over that they lack the intangibles, skill and niche to even be a role player in the league.  What is the difference b/t PJ3 and guys like Donte Greene or Shawne Williams?  Not much, but what they do have in common is a lack of IQ, feel for the game, not enough skill to make it as perimeter players and not enough toughness or effort to make it as interior players.  They’re basically stretches who aren’t respectable enough shooters to stretch the floor and they’re not high energy/effort/IQ guys either, which makes them niche-less players.  Who knows how he would’ve done with both Russ and KD out but who cares about that hypothetical?  I’d rather deal with facts and reality.  The fact is that he had a chance to make a team that isn’t exactly chock-full of superstars to block him and he failed.

Lol. What’s wrong with getting hyped for a player who finally broke out? Like a lot of people, they wanted to see Perry succeed, and he finally showed a glimpse of what he could in that stretch. There aint nothing wrong with rooting for a player you’ve been following since HS right? I thought so.

The fact is, he would’ve gotten big minutes during that strech. Remember Earl Clark? Yea, got playing time for the Lakers with Pau injured and earned a 3-4 mil a year contract the year after after being in the bench. Perry would’ve gotten a solid contract too.

And I think everyone saw the waive coming. They have tons of guaranteed contracts there, and it’s not like Perry would make the cut out of that logjam of PFs. It’s not like they’ll cut Sully, Olynyk or Zeller since they’ve been with the team for a year and are familar with Steven’s system. They’re not waiving Jerebko or Amir since they just signed those guys to guaranteed contracts. If he were with the Pelicans or the Nets there’s no doubt he’d make the cut.

When did he break out? I must’ve missed it.

So you’re rooting for a player to trick a franchise into paying him by putting up meaningless empty numbers? You want to see more Earl Clark’s in the league? I as a fan of the NBA would like to see that happen less and would rather see roster spots occupied by players who can actually help a team win

The fact is that he’s just not that good. He’s s niche-less, zero intangibles player. That in itself is reason for me to doubt that he’d make other teams. Look at one of the teams you just named, the Nets.  They just waived Quincy Miller too, who IMO is a similar player (no niche/zero intangibles).

I just don’t understand why certain players still have their fans after years of watching their progress… or lack thereof.  PJ3 hasn’t looked special since HS and even then he was enigmatic.

I’m pretty sure there are some non-superstars you also root for right? Yea, I root for a player I’ve been following to do good in the NBA and get a job there so what? Am I not entitled to do that? Lol.

Some people are basketball players just because they’re big and coordinated.  Jones, whether he is or not, seems like on.

Last I checked, the Lakers were deciding on their final roster spot: either Jabari Brown or Meta World Peace. Perry Jones would be a nice alternative. Jabari Brown is actually not too bad: he can hit a 3 and get to the line. However, he’s s little short for a 2 and a problem on defense. Anthony Brown hits 3’s (perhaps better), has better handles, is taller, and is more defensively inclined. Since they likely don’t have a draft pick next year, investing in someone like Jones would be a decent move and make a surprisingly fast-paced team s little faster.

Getting dumped by the Celtics is like getting dumped by a super model. It doesn’t mean your not a stud. Quite the opposite is much more likely.

I hope he lands with Philly, hell get every opportunity to be the player he showed he can be when Westbrook and KD were out. Whether he can string it together on a consistent basis hasnt been shown yet. But its a low risk sitiuation for the Sixers.
