mds0549ParticipantWord just came out that T-Wolves head coach Flip Saunders will not coach this year because of complications from his lymphoma treatment. I always like Flip and not only is he Coach and President of the Wolved but he is a Golden Gopher. Get well soon Flip and come show these young guys how to play when you are back on your feet.

NBAjunkie81ParticipantI’m a stage 4 metastatic cancer survivor & as a man your instinct is to say "I’m working, I’m not gonna let this knock me down…" but it’s life & death & if you are able – the best thing to do is focus 100% on the treatment b/c it beats your body down so bad & makes you immune system so weak that you can actually get taken out by all kinds of illnesses that a healthy person just shakes off… Flip – you are in my prayers – it is a battle of the mind in many ways, watch lots of comedies, rest a lot, laugh a lot, think positive thoughts & spend a lot of time w/ the people who love you – & we’ll all be excited when you return…

XYRYXParticipantGood to see that you could have made your way through this! If your user name is any indication how old you are, it really makes me sad how many young people have to fight this horiffic cancer &$#%#&@!. I lost my oldest friend and my only remaining basketball buddy born 82 just 6 months ago and after he faught for more than 1 1/2 years. I really miss talking to him about ‘our’ sport and the news I discuss here.
As I already said I’m very happy about anyone who has a positive background with this and I really know about the struggles people and their families have to deal with going through this.
The world is already complicated enough that no one should deal with cancer but is how it is. Stay positive dude and thanks for sharing your experiences with us!
I hope Flip can get through this too and has the power, focus, support and luck he needs to.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantCongratulations on beating your cancer… you now have an awesome ability to help others with your experiences. I can’t begin understand what you went through but most everyone has been touched by cancer in some way.

NBAjunkie81ParticipantI was 28 when I was diagnosed – I was engaged to the love of my life & I had a great career & today it’s all gone, I had to completely rebuild & start from scratch… I’m still having reconstructive surgeries b/c I was so ripped apart… All the chemo & radiation really messed up my brain, that’s why I have so many spelling errors & I drone on, I have trouble organizing my thoughts still… I’m permanantly disabled & I have a permanent colostomy bag & it look a long time for my mind to recover b/c I just didn’t feel like a man anymore when my fiancee left me… But, no matter how bad things got, I never stopped battling – evenything in life is a battle of the mind – I was told to make funeral arrangements by my doctors, but I just refused to ever quit & I got very lucky – a brand new chemo (that was normally too strong for anyone to take) saved me – I was young & strong so I got through it, even though the chemo caused my heart to fail twice, but I just kept grinding…
Today I am Cancer free & even though my life is very different, I appreciate Every single moment… I find happiness in Every little thing & the joy I feel everyday is hard to express in words… When you are that sick absolutely Nothing matters but trying to spend as much time as you possibly can w/ family & friends – that’s all I wanted was more time w/ the people I loved & that wish was granted….
Today, I’m trying to get back on my feet & I spend a lot of time volunteering & spending time w/ terminal cancer patients in hospice… I’m very private, I don’t really talk about this stuff w/ anyone, but I felt terrible for Flip b/c I understand his struggle & when you guys wrote those kinds words I was Blown away & I really got emotional…. Thank You SO MUCH! I can’t tell you how good your kind words made me feel….

HitsterParticipantFlip needs to get himself better and consider his long term health, he is only 60 years old and can hopefully slam dunk the cancer and have another 20 plus years. I hope that no hasty decisions are made as returning tio the bench could be a great target for Flip to have on his path to recovery. George Karl beat cancer a few years back and return so Flip can probably do the same.
If Sam Mitchell does do well then Flip may decide he wishes to only return to a Front Office job or Flip may feel that he doesn’t need the hassle and stress of being on the bench and road trips. But any decision needs to be made by Flip carefully and after speaking to his family, the T-Wolves owners, Sam Mitchell, KG etc.
I sure they would all advise Flip to do what he feels is best for himself.
