Who are some guys who aren’t as athletic as they’re labeled as?

& who are some guys that are much more athletic than people give them credit for.

Overrated: Kelly Oubre – Once labeled as a top shelf athlete, but just doesn’t make athletic plays in the game. He’s super stiff, doesn’t get much lift and gets knocked off balance so easily. He’s  just not the athlete he was labeled as coming out of high school.

Underrated: Draymond Green – Once labeled as ‘not athletic enough’ to survive in this league, he is much more athletic than given credit for. Doesn’t get much lift off two feet but has really quick feet, decent speed in transition and has dunked on a few guys off of one foot.

Overrated: Mudiay = He’s compared to John Wall due to his inability to hit outside shots and playstyle and more often athleticism. Although he did have a good preseason, I don’t see John Wall’s level of athleticism, in terms of speed and change of direction and verticality, I think Mudiay’s speed is more close to Jrue Holiday.

Underrated: = Demar Derozan. To be compared to Vince carter Athlecticism is a huge pressure to live up to. I’m not saying he’s not athletic. He’s athleticism is elite but not on the same leve as freaks like VC and Gerald Green. Also Giannis, I hear people say he’s so athletic. For me his long and not that athletic. His athleticism is his length.

Dwight has won some dunk Contests so any casual fan knows of his athleticism. Its been the main part of his game for his career.

Randle has about average or slightly above average vertical explosion for his size but I think the main part of his explosiveness is his end to end speed and acceleration

Dwight is nowhere mehr the athlete he once was when he did the Superman dunk and other stuff. The last 2 years he lost a major part of his explosiveness to me and it all started with his back problems. I actually think his decline in this category is one of the biggest we have seen recently. He was a 10 out of 10 in this category and now he is still strong and physically gifted but if we talk explosiveness I can’t think of someone who lost as much of this in the last couple of years who is still relatively young.

Randle has awesome below the rim athleticism. He might not get very high, but his first four inches of vert are very explosive.

At least that’s what Lakers fans keep telling me, lol.

D’Angelo Russell is another one. He might not ever dunk in an NBA game, but you just have to trust the process. The process that led to Chad Ford tweeting that Russell has a 40 inch vert, lol.

Porzingis is a very underrated athlete.

The pre-draft hype-artists yakking about WCS being able to guard all five positions never looked across the ocean at Porzingis, who can do the same things at 7’3".

With much sadness, I would do it.

Porzingis is already close to Rudy Gobert level defensively, and he can shoot over anybody.

I’ve always hated Phil Jackson, but he’s done a damn good job this summer.

LeBron might be overrated as an athlete at this point.  He is still a really good, above average athlete, but he is not ELITE.  He can’t go over the top as easily as he once did.

Everybody loses it.  Vince Carter and even Kobe are slipping, too.

Maybe LeBron was just worn down in the Finals, but he looks like he has lost half a step from his prime.

Haven’t seen him this season, but they limited his minutes and sat him out of a few games.  His preseason stats weren’t too great anyway.

Still, in terms of actual NBA mileage, LeBron is one of the best ever.  Probably better than Jordan was in terms of X number of games/minutes into a career.  And, LeBron never took a year off from basketball (he barely takes the SUMMER off).

Jon Leuer is an underrated athlete.  Pretty good hops even though he looks robotic.  Good floor runner, but more of a finesse guy.

Lebron is a very overrated athlete and has been for sometime now. The media hypes up every little move but his first couple of steps at very slow and his elevation has declined.

Underrated athlete Jared Cunningham. Was a highlight film at Orgeon State, a lot of springs and good defender

Strength is usually underrated and ignored in the athleticism equation. That’s how guys like LeBron and Smart get underrated, and guys like LaVine and Wiggins get overrated.

It was just long…  Athletically LeBron still has that vert and strength…  I never seen LeBron beat people with his first step, ever…

I personally think Harrison Barnes athleticism is overrated.  We’re told about his vert and how much of an athlete he is, but he never uses it.  The dunk contest was a prime example.  (Dante Exum is another one that’s overrated).

Underrated? IDK really…  I think a lot of guys sleep on Melo’s quickness.   I think he’s one of the quickest players at his position (if not the quickest)…   I think KD underrated athletically.   People think because he’s tall and long that he doesn’t have a vert, but sometimes his head is above the rim when dunking. Which in my opinion is how you truly test in game vert, some players just have long arms (ala Cliff Alexander and Shabazz Muhammed.)

For the record there are different forms of athleticism.   It’s not just quickness, vert, AND speed.   It could be one or a combination of them…

Russell Westbrook has all… Derrick Rose has all…   John Wall does…

    LeBron has everything, but quickness…

Overrated: Mudiay = He’s compared to John Wall due to his inability to hit outside shots and playstyle and more often athleticism. Although he did have a good preseason, I don’t see John Wall’s level of athleticism, in terms of speed and change of direction and verticality, I think Mudiay’s speed is more close to Jrue Holiday.

Demar Derozan.

Underrated: = Brandoy Roy, Cause I hear before that he is unathletic, well i’m saying in terms of verticality he is athletic, he is a sneaky athlete, he recorded 40 inch vert at the combine
