Got a chance to watch him last night against the Wizards. Something that really stuck out to me was his jump shot. He hit about four 10-15 foot jump shots, all net at that! If he is truly developing that into his arsenal and can hit it consistently OH MY!!!

Side note, I have a ton of respect for Brett brown the team played with great floor spacing and ball movement.

He shot that shot in high school, but people that only seen him play in college don’t know about that. People knock him because they never saw it, but that doesn’t mean he does not have it.

I read about him for the first time a few years ago after his junior year & the scouting report said "Okafor has a powerful lower body, NBA body, a legit 6’11”, humble, mature & the most developed low post game we have seen in at least 20 years probably ever…" For some reason his stock began to slip going into the Draft & I just never understood it b/c it’s as if God built this kid for the pro game… from 15 feet in & Both sides of the lane he has an incredibly developed Low post game, his game reminds me of Duncan.. I was utterly Floored when he fell to #3 & I’m sure Phila’s draft room erupted in stunned cheers when he fell to #3…

I’m sorry ‘m going a bit overboard, I’m not a Sixers fan, I really wanted to see Okafor w/ the Lakers but after seeing him a few times I’m just blown away that a 7 footer has a low post game this developed… Basically he is TOO advanced for Phila’s team b/c Okafor is So strong & establishes position so deep they have a Massive advantage in the half court grind which the Playoffs Always turn into & the kid should be a Sophmore in College! Phila’s gaurds don’t know how to get him the ball b/c they just are not that good but I believe Marshall & Stauskus will be a nice upgrade for them…

And another thing, did you notice how good Noel looked in the low post as well? Noel is a freak, explosive leaper, human jumping jack but he used a few up & unders & feints that I Never saw him use last year… & a thought popped into my head, these guys look Great together! & Okafor is teaching Noel some of his moves & Noel is helping Okafor on Defense & Okafor did look Much better at that end… How scary is it that in a few months Embiid, Okafor & noel – all 7 foot, all Under 22, will be practicing together EVERY day for Years to come! Phila might be Very scary in a few years – I’m happy for Sixer fans & hopefully embiid can return b/c I want to see potentially great players play… But to conclude, great post, okafor looks like a Stud….

      I’d give him 70%.

He’s in the perfect scenario to succeed.  Stauskas will provide some 3pt shooting to space the floor.

Okafor will be the #1 option from day 1, so he will be forced to play at a high level and overcome his weaknesses.

When you look at typical draft busts (see; Milicic, Darko), they usually don’t get much playing time, or play with coaches who’s style clashes with theirs.  The Sixers are built around Okafor.  The only way that changes is if Embiid comes back and takes over the NBA.

That said, there is a 30% chance he will fail.  After a successful rookie season, I’d decrease that to 10%.  He has soft hands, a great low post game, and a decent 10 footer.

Okafor is a stud and should be able to dominate the low post for the Sixers for years to come.

The one true, clear advantage Okafor has over Cousins is between the ears.

Cousins is good between the ears. He has become a 24ppg and 12rpg and 3.5apg bigman in sacramento. That team has been a dumpster fire since he got in the league. Somehow he became an all star despite all that. I would take cousins head over okafors. He has come a long way since he left high school. Okafor shouldn’t have to overcome the things that cousins overcame. Cousins deserves as much credit as anyone in the league becoming what he became in probably the worst place to develop as a player and as a person in the NBA.

I have been comparing him to Cousins since I became familiar with his game at Duke.

I would give Cousins the edge in athleticism, but Okafor gets that same edge in low post game at the same age. Okafor may never be the defender that Cousins is becoming, but he he does have some upside in that regard.

However, the biggest advantage for Okafor, as was said above, is between the ears. He is a humble, hard working, high character kid.

I know that his mother died when he was 9 or 10 years old, but she must have done a great job with him up until that point, along with his dad to this day. The difference between kids raised well and not raised well is obvious sometimes.

Cousins, like an Iverson, tantalizes with maturity at times, but Iverson never put it together, and Cousins imo is unlikely to as well. Maturing after the age of 40 is always a possibility, but that obviously doesn’t help them in their NBA careers.

Okafor is built from the neck down, AND the neck up to be a great basketball player.

I think he will be able to score like Cousins but Demarcus averages like 12 boards a game, dont see that with Noel on the court

Okafor looked very promising in his couple of warm up games, his mid range game was there in HS although I admit I hadn’t seen much of it previously.

It makes you wonder how good he could be with a top PG in place to create for him

I like both of these players but they are very different.  Cousins is more athletic, faster, better defender, and has a mean streak.  Cousins right now is a better defender than Okafor.  Also Cousins has an attitude. Cousins wants the contact, the confrontation, the nose-to-nose confrontation.  For Cousins every possession is personal.

Okafor is slower, less athletic, but way more offensively skilled than Cousins was as a rookie.  Okafor also does not seem to get riled up over much.  He’s not going to ever get t’ed up for anything.  That’s a good thing in general, but sometimes a team needs that spark and Okafor seems too chill to provide that.  Okafor also is a horrible FT shooter and though it’s early, I can see him being hack-a-shaq’ed a lot by inferior defenders.  I do think that Okafor is probably a great locker-room presence and is probably a great force for good team chemistry.  If I were an NBA owner I’d rather have Okafor than Cousins.  Okafor has tremendous upside, is a high character guy, and appears more professional to me in terms of on court conduct.

Both Okafor and Cousins I see having very long, and productive NBA careers.  I think that they actually both seem like high character guys, and both are elite players.  But their styles are different, and I think that it is very hard to really compare these guys because Cousins is entering his 5th year of NBA experience, and Okafor is just starting his first.  It’s not really fair to compare them because of the experience gap.

Okafor’s temprament in DMC’s body would be an awesome spectacle. Good point by Illadelph.
