I was just wondering if anybody had inside info on this.  I know reading about Skal before that he has a guardian named Gerald Hamilton who is most likely trying to profit off of Skal’s success.  His high school situation has also been a disaster.  I think I read Reach Your Dream Prep cancelled a game because Skal was sick.  I don’t know if that is true or not.  Not wishing ill on Skal at all and hopefully all this clears up so he can play, but practice has already started and they are still investigating him.  There is a possibility he may never suit up for the Cats which would be a huge hit to his draft stock.  Seems like a strange saga to me.

This is another example of the NCAA taking their sweet time in determining the eligibility of an athlete, while the kids future is put on hold and his world potentially turned upside down. They are doing the same thing to Diallo at Kansas.  Last month they screwed Moustapha Diagne by taking their time in determing his eligibility.  Essenetially, they were questioning a class he took as a freshman in his native Senagal.  He subseqently finished his final three years in the US and graduated with no problems.  Both his HS (Pope John XXIII in New Jersey) and Syarcuse University deemed his course work met all the requirments for a high school diploma and acceptance into College.  However the NCAA held up his clearance over the one single course as a freshman, which resulted in him having to enroll in a two-year JC in order to maintin his student Visa.

is the NCAA messing with their top money makers (not counting football in general). The NCAA WANTS these players in the tournament come March, so why are them jumping on them so hard with burecratic bs?

I think they like to make examples out of high profile recruits to show that its all about the academics.

Kinda like a smoke screen to take the focus off the $$$

I think that’s a load of crap.  2 star Joe who committed to Lehigh doesn’t need to be enticed to accept an offer.  Agents aren’t circling around his family like vultures and shoe companies aren’t trying to build relationships with him. It’s the blue chip recruits who get all those under the table offers.

Possible eligiblity issues surrounding Skal have been talked about for a while.  So much so that at 1 point it was assumed that he would’ve spent this year overseas a la Mudiay. His whole HS career is sketchy as hell. I mean, his "guardian," who’s obviously a snake, CREATED a prep team (which btw was funded by a phony foundation) around Skal just so he could play and be elgibile.  I’ll let you guess who his "guardian" solicited donations from to help fund his foundation.

Long story short, the person in charge of making decisions for Skal is a scumbag who’s been looking to make a buck off of him since before he got control of him.

Both Enes Kanter and John Wall were in the same position one month before the season started.  Kanter was ruled out but still practiced with the team and got enough exposure through Kentucky practices to be a high lottery pick.  John Wall was ruled in and was as we all know the number one pick in 2010.

So, I think that even if Skal is ruled out, he will still be fine for the NBA draft next year.  He probably would be like Kanter and be a high lottery pick.  The UK players get tons of exposure to NBA GMs and scouts during their practices so Skal will probably get plenty of exposure there.  Not as good as in-game exposure on ESPN, but not exactly obscured either.

The biggest effect Skal being ineligible would be UK basketball hopes being somewhat diminished.
