Sam Mitchell told journalist Justin Termine that LaVine "absolutely, absolutely will start" at least at the beginning of the season. So with that, where does this leave Kevin Martin? The reason he came to MN in the first place was because he knew he would start. So if he left a Finals contender like OKC because he wasn’t starting, you think he’ll want to stick around on a team that probably will win around 30 games? I don’t see it happening.

What teams do you guys think will be interested in trading for him and what could the Wolves potentially get in return?

Minnesota will probably be shooting for the last playoff spot early in the season and I believe they’ll want Kevin Martin around as long as that goal is in play and/or realstic. He should see about 25 minutes per game, give or take. Playing against second units could help his stock, keeping his numbers high and efficient.

He probably doesn’t want to start on a non contender and teams out of the playoff picture would rather play a young guy or replacement level player to keep the wins down and lottery odds high, so no match there. In the East, I think he would fit well with Chicago, Washington, and Indiana and with Memphis, OKC, and New Orleans out West. These teams just off of the top of my head; what playoff team wouldn’t want a former 25 ppg scorer and a dangerous shooter?

I’m not sure what teams would be willing to give up for Martin but his shooting and offensive ability could definitely be of use. Maybe Minny could swap Martin to NOLA for Norris Cole if Tyus Jones spends time in the D-League. OKC is a bit thin on the wings, woud Minnesota take a chance on Dion Waiters with a vet like KG around or take DJ Augustin to back up the point guard spot?

He would be a perfect fit with Memphis as a scoring punch off the bench. Teams should definitely look into trading for him while his stock is low.

Memphis may be the only real fit I can think of if he wants to start. Reddick is often hurt, so Mayberry he goes down? Not a lot of contenders need below acreage defenders at the 2.

They’re always looking for perimeter shooting & scoring. MKG just went down for the year, Batum is a natural 3, and they probably don’t want Lamb or Hairston starting if they’re trying to make playoffs. Perfect fit IMO.

Offer something like Marvin Williams (expiring $) and Troy Daniels + second rounder.

I think a number of teams could use K-Mart

ATL – I think he would fit the system well and could be the starting SG next to Korver (not a great defensive wing combo though)
CHA – Just more scoring and perimeter shooting as they lack it, he could start next to Batum with MKG out.
DAL – Anderson only decent bench wing and a rookie at that. Matthews will take time to get fit.
MEM – They can use more scoring, Conley would get him some good ball and having Gasol protecting the rim will be all good, wouldnt start him ahead of Lee though.
WAS – Nice scorng punch off the bench.

Jazz could use him though. He could start there alongside Hayward. His weakness on defense can be covered by Favors and Gobert. They could use more perimeter scoring besides Hayward and Hood.

If he went to the Jazz, I doubt he’d start. But I do agree, he’d be GREAT coming off the bench for them. Would love to see it happen.
