I’ve been seeing all over this board that he’s overrated and that AJ Hammons should be ahead of him (yeah, I actually read that on here). I actually agreed with most of the Damian Jones “not top 10” hype. But, after watching his draftexpress video have me pretty impress (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qir30wdIMJA) and I came away saying “he might be a top 10 pick in next year draft”,

He’s the modern day big man and then some. He’s 7′ 245 pounds and have a 7’2″, can run the court, looks phenomenal in the PnR, can finish, block shots, shoot from the mid range/3 point line, and got a little post moves, he’s aggressive and he can control the post on both sides of the ball. I believe controlling the post is big time for big man. And to all of that he’s young for his grade, sophomore age.

To me he’s the most impressive big man that I’ve seen so far in this years draft outside of Skal Labissiere, and he’s the second best big in next years draft.

    Here’s his weakness video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UzgbZcqvIY

Nice wingspan, same as Kelly Oubre. That’s a big compliment to Jones.

Oubre’s more of a shooting guard. Ready to replace Beal by next year.

Strength + agility is the killer combo, and he’s got both, plus good length and some explosive athleticism.

But not being an elite shot blocker limits his value.

Hes ok Slighty above average center prospect, this draft is in dyer need of big men and Damien Jones is one of the few centers in college with solid potential.. At this point teams looking for a center in this draft will be desperate and reach for any big that could run the floor well at the very least

Desire, work ethic, effort, basketball character, basketball awareness….. The most important characteristics are all huge question marks for me. He should consult with Hassan Whiteside.

As I’m sure you know, there’s another thread devoted just to Damian Jones that you could have posted in, and I don’t think anyone suggested that A.J. Hammons should be drafted over him in that thread. In fact, I was the one who posted the similarities, just trying to start a discussion, but at no point did I say I’d put Hammons over him. If you’re referring to my post, you should read what I posted again. Hammons still frustrates me as a fan of college basketball, because he COULD have been the prospect Jones is. He just never seemed to give a damn. With that said, I got a pretty awesome reply, and I definitely understand that a three year age difference means the world in basketball.

I’m not trying to predict how Jones will play this season. I hope he does well, and being from TN, I hope Vandy can get back to where they were in the Freije days. The reality is that he’s just as big of an unknown as Hammons is leading into every game. He has a lot working for him that Hammons doesn’t: superior athleticism, AGE, and the attention/training that comes with being a top tier proespect. I’m neither a Hammons supporter nor a Jones detrator, but they have enough similarities in their current games not to at least make for a discussion,
