AdamJCallejaParticipantI’m a little disappointed in his two years at Florida so far. During his junior year of high school I was convinced he was going be a future lottery pick (I was one of those guys comparing him to Kenny Anderson lol). But his jump shot still needs a ton of work, still struggles to manage a game and not to mention he’s pretty old for his class. What were your guys’ expectations of him coming into college and do you guys think he still has a chance to be a first round pick.

T RexI remember when Hill and Chris Walker thought they were going to be the best duo in college, as freshmen.

alex23ParticipantAt best I see him as being a mid to late second rounder, he’s just not that great at running a basketball team, not to mention his athleticism didn’t translate as well as expected into the college game and like you said he can’t shoot well at all.He also can’t finish around the basket and doesn’t always take smart shots hence the below 40 percent field goal shooting. To be honest I remember some people stating he’d be a lotto pick but I never saw it, in my mind I thought he’d be a late first round, early second round pick, but that too looks very very slim.

IlladelphParticipantI also remember when Kasey Hill was recruited to FLA, and he was supposedly a one and done. Then he played and it was clear that he was not in that elite group as a college player. Funny how his senior year he was a MCD all-american, and was a top rated player for his position, but at FLA he was unimpressive. But if you consider that he will turn 22 years old in December, it kind of makes sense.
Since he turned 20 as a freshman, it makes you think that he had a tremendous advantage at the high school level playing against players that were 1-3 years younger than him. That makes a huge difference in development at the high school level. But that kind of advantage is nullified at the college level since everyone else is the same age. Kasey Hill is likely another case of the older high school senior looking impressive against much younger competition, but actually not being that impressive overall. As a contrast, look no further than Devin Booker. He was 17 until October of his freshman year. Kasey Hill was nearly 2 full years older than him as a freshman.
Makes me wonder what life will be like for Dwayne Bacon, another older freshman.

GBeeParticipantI saw him in HS too and didn’t think he was impressive there either. I think the decision to go to Montverde was a blessing and a curse to him, but more of a curse. On one hand he got to play on one of the best teams in the nation, playing for a great coach who runs a lot of college, even pro style sets. He got to play good comp on a national schedule with highly ranked teammates, but I think the type of system they ran stifled his creativity and open court play. They were a half court, inside out oriented team and in that setting all his weaknesses were put on full display. He couldn’t shoot, he had trouble organizing an offense and he couldn’t get out in the open court as much he needed to. It turned him into more of a deliberate, game managing type of PG which is not what he is by nature IMO. He’s not a high IQ player and bc of that struggles to make quick, sound decisions and thinking his way through the game. At Florida under Donovan it was more of the same. It looked he was trying to think too much, trying to be super fine with his decision making and he ended up handcuffing himself. At least in a more open, less structured system he would’ve looked better and maintained his stock, even if in reality he wasn’t that good. Maybe he would’ve fooled more people like he did in HS with his mixtapes, which were admittedly very entertaining. I think when some people think of Kasey Hill they still have his mixes in the back of their mind, which is why they still believe in him. I’m pretty sure that happens with a lot of prospects which is reason number 4394893 why mixtapes are worthless for evaluating kids.

providencefriars1ParticipantHe’s not a NBA player and Florida actually went with the freshman Chiozza at PG a lot towards the end of the year. I never knew he was old for his class and it is a pretty plausible reason for his skill plateau. Former Providence wing Gerard Coleman was the same way but was ranked in the 60’s not top ten.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantKasey has to have a breakout year. Weak class for Point guards this year.. Maybe Rysheed Jordan, Aaron Holiday, Jamal Murray and Kris Dunn.. But Kasey could be next after them

ncballerThere is a full game of him vs Joel Berry on youtube. I haven’t taken the time to watch the whole thing, but it looked like from the snippets I saw he was only effective on the break. My other buddy saw him go up against Nate Britt live in HS and said they were about equal as players. I kind of laughed at him (I have had a love/hate relationship with Britt since HS). Now he is telling me he told me so.
