http://www.nola.com/pelicans/index.ssf/2015/09/shaquille_oneal_shares_his_vie.html This is a cool interview in which Shaq says that he would dominate Anthony Davis if they were both playing together. He also says that Dale Brown said that Ben Simmons is the next Chris Jackson. Chris Jackson was an elite player, but I haven’t seen Ben Simmons enough to agree with that comparison. I do remember Chris Jackson in the pre Mahmoud Abdul Rauf days and he was an extremely talented offensive player, and a very good athlete. It’s high praise coming from Dale Brown. What do you all think about that comparison between Chris Jackson and Ben Simmons?

your comments are misleading, he doesnt say he is the next chris jackson and he doesnt compare them as players skill wise. He just says simmons will be the best thing for lsu ball since chris jackson. Obviously they are night and day in terms of style. I was scratching my head at first

Is not comparing him to Chris Jackson. It is putting him in lofty company and saying something about the type of impact he could make. As a freshman, Chris Jackson averaged 30.2 ppg on 48.6% FG/38.9% 3PT/81.5% FT, with 4.1 apg in almost 37 mpg. He was a consensus 1st Team All-American and USBWA Freshman of the year. He was the best player since Pete Maravich, who averaged 43.8 ppg. Does this mean you can compare the two? It would be tough, as I believe Pete was more of a scorer and Chris Jackson was a prolific shooter. Not to mention, Pete had no three-point line (making his scoring total that much more insane) and was an intensely creative passer/ball handler.

Now, Chris was also 6’1 and probably 165 soaking wet. Ben Simmons tweeted out he was 238 the other day and is a shade under 6’10. His potential impact may indeed be the best LSU has seen from a freshman since 1988-89, when Chris Jackson was running the show. No way will Ben score 30 ppg, mainly because they will not need him to in order to win games. What he will do is fill a stat sheet, plus potentially top Chris Jackson’s assist total, which for a NCAA forward, is incredibly impressive. So, do not see a lot of comparison beyond Simmons potential impact, which should make him a potential All-American and make him the most impactful frosh since Chris Jackson/Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.

It is high praise and I think it should be true, because Ben is incredibly talented. Still, I think saying someone is "the best player since ______" is not necessarily comparing the two, especially in the case of these two vastly different players. It was meant as a compliment and people should know it is one that should not be taken lightly.

I understand Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was obsessive compulsive and wouldn’t leave practice until he had swished 100 consecutive FTs and sometimes was literally in the gym all night long.

The Adrian Monk of the NBA.

First thing I thought was that Simmons must be changing his name to Muhammad because they obviously are not similiar players.

Ok guys, I seem to have mislead everyone with the title of this post.  I am sorry about that.  I honestly assumed that everyone would know that Jackson was a guard and Simmons is a PF…. obviously 2 different types of players.  More, I was just wondering what everyone thought about the high praise that Dale Brown was heaping on Ben Simmons.  Jackson was drafted #3 overall, and he was an amazingly talented shooter and offensive player.  I was more interested in that aspect of their games.  Is Simmons really that offensively gifted?

Simmons is a huge recruit, a coup for LSU.

i know Chris Jackson tore it up at LSU but what was he ranked coming out of high school?

Steph Curry was actually the next Chris Jackson.  Steph is also in Pistol Pete territory with his scoring and fancy dribbling with Pistol Pete being the more creative (reckless?) passer.

Pistol Petes style wasnt suited for winning…but I’d pay to watch that man play on a losing side anytime.

Chris Jackson made a joke of that short 3pt line.

but after reading the post I agree – I know the LSU campus is going bat shit crazy w/ excitement for the arrival of Simmons & they should, he’s the type of player who change the recruiting pattern of a University for years to come even if he is only there for one year…. I remember when LSU had Chris Jackson, Stanley Roberts & Shaq…. Louisianna is such a unique and amazing place I think it’s great to have top players at different schools…. Kobe was thinking about playing one year at LaSalle University – a small University in West Phila – about 5 miles from Lower Merion, Kobe’s dad Jelly bean Bryant was a star at the school in the 70’s & he was drafted in the 1st round & he was an assistant coach in 1996 – but Kobe obviously made the right choice going pro but imagine if the NBA had the 1 year of college rule & Kobe attended that little school – it would Still be helping them today – 20 years later, just to pull out banners & pics w/ a Super Star like Kobe in their uniform for one year… We still associate Shaq with LSU.. I’m pretty sure that Simmons has a family connection to LSU – does anyone know for sure??? Either way, it’s great to see future NBA stars going to different schools for that one year rather than always going to the Power schools, although I enjoy that too – def not knocking it, just glad that there is a mix… good for LSU, the schools, the students & the fans…..
