It has been a loooooong time since I posted a trade idea on this formum. Likely due to fear of public backlash or insighting some type of virtual riot.. lol. But I came up with something that I think is interesting for both parties: Orlando trades Channing Frye and a future 1st rd pick for Taj Gibson.

On paper for the Bulls, I think Taj is going to lose minutes to Nikola Mirotic this year. Plus Channing seems like a guy who would be used more efficiently and jive better within Hoiberg’s free-flowing offensive gameplan.

On paper for Orlando, Taj seems like he would be a ‘Scott Skiles’ guy for his defense and willingness to accept a role instead of demanding to be featured. Plus he would provide a welcomed presence for Orlando’s defensively challenged frontcourt (looking at you, Vucevic).

What do you guys think? Any and all feedback (positive or negative) is welcome on my posts!!

I don’t really like it. Last thing Chicago needs right now is another pf. I’d rather just see them give the mins they would give frye to mirotic or McDermott. If they are looking to move Gibson I would target a quality backup pg (Darren collison perhaps) and possibly some more depth on the wing.

I don’t think Orlando would want to give up a future first round pick for a 31 year old pf. I also think frye could help them with his outside shooting if utilized correctly.

like you, im a magic fan. and i too would like to see them move channing frye. but i dont want taj gibson, he’d be ok to "create a defensive culture", but not as a building block for the future. and we should be building. as for giving up one of our picks or the lakers 2018 pick we have… you’ve got to be freaking kidding. unless the deal puts heavy restrictions on the pick, like say ‘has to fall 20-30 until 2019 or second round’, i’d be very angry with hennigan. thats way too much.

To further explain: I would have it be top 20 protected and be 2018 or later.

Orlando should be a seasoned playoff team by that time. Trading Frye plus a first rd pick in the 20’s will hardly cripple the franchise man… so again, no I don’t think a hypothetical 21st pick is "way too much"

Plus the Magic would not be trading for Taj as a building block. They would simply be trading for a guy who provides help for an immediate need, can effectively back up Nik Vuc, and would not demand too many minutes.

well, if you dont say anything about restrictions on the pick, i jump to conclusions that its not heavily protected… and you know… i still prob wouldnt do it. you would, thats cool. but i would like to see us build with what we have and whenever that time comes when the hypothetical pick would get used, if we a 6th or 7th seed in the east, have that 20th overall pick, we see if it can nab us a junior or senior who could contribute off the bench right away for a few minutes, instead of a 35 yr old taj gibson. but hey, differences of opinion.

I don’t get where it makes sense for Chicago. Gibson is clearly a better player than Channing Frye,I’m sure Chicago can get a slightly better return for Taj.
