SkalAndJamalParticipantAnyone can give a quick summary of what’s going with these programs, and what kind of consequences they might potentially be looking at.

ncballerI can only speak for UNC, not too familiar with SMU’s situation.
Essentially, UNC offered some classes where no attendance was required and the grade was based off of the completion of one paper without much attention paid to the quality of the paper. Essentially, a student could write a paragraph and the person in charge of grading the papers (who should not have been, Debbie Crowder) would give the student an A or a B.
More non-athletes took the classes than athletes, and it had been going on for 18 years. Based off of the information from the Wainstein Report (a UNC funded internal investigation) and the Notice of Allegations, I expect Men’s Basketball to be in the clear of any punishment. The women’s basketball program however seemed to be heavily involved and fully aware of the sham, and they may be getting the hammer.
But, this is the NCAA we are talking about, so I could be completely wrong. The longer this drags out though, it seems like a punishment for Men’s Bball as Roy can’t make any garuntees to recruits and that is a huge reason we have seen a sharp decline in the quality of talent that UNC has been reeling in lately. Went from a top 3 recruiting class in 2014 to signing two kids outside the top 100 in 2015.
If the links below work, then you can see a copy of the Wainstein Report and the Notice of Allegations.
