IlladelphParticipantI am calling it right now. I was about to say that it’s gonna be an ACC final 4 but I keep forgetting that the Terps are not in the ACC anylmore lol.
1. Carolina – Best experience/talent of any college team team this year.
2. Maryland – Diamond Stone and last year’s guys make Terps contenders.
3. Gonzaga – Dark horse team sort of. Could be Wiltjer’s body finally caught up with him.
4. Kentucky – Most talented of the 4 teams but lost 7 players last year. One and done heavy team
My overall champion pick: Kentucky.

SkalAndJamalParticipantI personally think UNC is overrated. They need that elite facilitating PG, and Paige, although great scoring PG, does not fit. They need that Felton, Marshall, Lawson type of passer.

ncballerJoel Berry was lookin very good at the PG spot towards the end of the season. In fact had Roy not taken him out with 5 minutes to go of the Wisky game they would have been on their way to meet Arizona in the elite 8. UNC has a ton of balance as Meeks, Johnson, Paige, Jackson and even Hicks are all subject to go off for 20 any night. I think Berry makes the jump to earn jp tokoto’s starting spot.
I am curious as to your inclusion of Louisville in your final four. I have a man crush on Donavon Mitchell’s game but I don’t think he has enough fire power around him to replace Rozier, Blackshear and Harrel’s production. They will struggle to score. IMHO it’s gonna be a rough long year for them.

SkalAndJamalParticipantI can see berry being the key but I just haven’t seen enough of a sample size to be confident in him.
Strength is in the wings. PG spot is pretty taken care of. Pitino gets his guys to rebound.

ph90702Gonzaga won’t make the final four. Their backcourt was decimated by graduation, and college basketball is a guard’s game.

IlladelphParticipantI don’t think Kansas will be that good this year. At least by Kansas standards which are pretty high.
Diallo might not get cleared to play and if he doesn’t I don’t see a whole lot of improvement in the lineup from last year. Carlton Bragg is good, but he is not as talented as a Wiggins, or an Oubre. And just look at last year with Cliff Alexander… without a dominating post-presence, the guards and the SF will get played hard and the team will be playing a lot of transition defense after not getting very many ORBs…
I always like Kansas, and I like Bill Self, but he doesn’t know how to get the most out of his five star talent. He is a tweener coach in that he recruits one and dones, and gets a lot of them, but then coaches real old-school style. One of these days he will truly embrace the one and done mentality and Kansas will be much more competitive.

NickWayne87ParticipantWhat does Wichita State got to do to PROVE that they’re an ELITE basketball program and quit getting left off these lists? UNC over them? GTFOOH….

IlladelphParticipantWichits State is gonna be pretty good this year, but to say that they are better than UNC is silly.
I loved watching Wichita State have an undefeated season until the tournament 2 years ago. That Wichita – Kentucky game was epic, but I disagree that Wichita State doesn’t get the respect it deserves. They are good, but they don’t play in the uber-competitive ACC, and they don’t have the level of talent and experience that UNC has.
I love your passion, but objectively UNC is better on all counts. Not by a mile, but by a significant margin.

ph90702They were one of the twenty youngest teams in college basketball last year. Four of their five freshmen from last year are back. Rashad Vaughn was a first round draft pick, so you can’t blame him for leaving. They have another very good recruiting class this year, and they have two transfers who are eligible this year. I don’t think they will make the Final Four, but I think they will make the tournament and win at least one game.

SkalAndJamalParticipantThe pieces fit great, but still it’s Dave Rice running that team. Losing 3 starters, 2 top players, isn’t great for the program either. Just Rice doesn’t know what he is doing.

Something like this would be pretty neat to see happen. Three of the teams actually appear to be very good and the fourth has Tom Izzo so its not beyond the realm of possibility.

IlladelphParticipantI love it man. An all "state" team final 4. It could happen. All four of those teams are very good and could make it. That would be a cool story line. Probably no one would watch though if it was between LSU and ISU except for fans of those programs and die-hard college b-ball fans like me. Lol.

TarHeelRavenParticipantI agree with ncballer. Joel Berry really came on strong at the end of the season after he came back from his injury. I think he starts at the point for Carolina this year, moving Paige off the ball so he can look to score more, which he does best. I think people forget how good of a high school player he was in Florida. I think he won four state titles. Not every guy comes in and dominates as a freshman. While he probably won’t have a Kendall Marshall, Raymond Felton or Ty Lawson like impact this year, I think he will be very good at the point for the Heels.

NickWayne87Participantwhat Wichita state did to Kansas in the tournament last year and this years UNC team isn’t better than that Kansas team last year and Wichita State returned nearly ALL of it’s key contributors. Yall saw Fred VanVleet run all through Notre Dame in the tournament last year and are yall gonna sit here and tell me that UNC has a better backcourt than Wichita State just because Wichita plays in the MVC? You’re gonna tell me that Marcus streaky paige is a better all around pg than VanVleet? I’m not buying it. You’re gonna tell me that UNC is a better team than Wichita State i’m NOT buying it. If they played a seven game series right now Wichita wins 4-2.

Also you realize Paige played on an injured foot he had to have surgery on this summer all last season right?
