valentineI thought I’d use the relative quiet period to raise a contemporary issue – Trash Talk.
I noticed that Nick Kyrgios is getting heat for his choice of trash talk in the sport of Tennis. But in my opinion…that is actually quite tame compared to what NBA (and other basketball players say).
For example, Kevin Garnett apparently knows what Honey Nut Cheerios taste like.
And Yo’ Mumma disses are pretty standard. Then if you take it to streetball level…you only need to watch White Men Can’t Jump to see what the culture is re: trash talk.
And you can actually hear players use terms like N***A, B**** and M**********R on the court.
So…I’m seeing all this attention to Nick Kyrgios and think that perhaps he chose the wrong sport….as this wouldn’t even be an issue in the NBA.
Thoughts?
Does the NBA have a problem?

nick5354ParticipantAs an Australian, I wish Nick Kyrgios did choose the wrong sport and went into basketball. Seeing KG rip him to shreds and put him in line would be perfect.

Rip255Good call, Good call.
But KG is the Kyrgios before he existed.
He made big baby cry…dissed CharlieV about his hair and I could go on…
I guess KG paved the way for guys like Nick…

ThenilonatorParticipantThe issue of wether he choose the wrong sport is secondary to the fact that someone that cares about him needs to beat the living piss out of him. He’s a punk!

ExumInfernoParticipantWhen was the last time tennis got a mention here, if any publicity is good publicity then it worked this time.
For basketball, if they are mad and yelling at each other that is better than everyone being friends and just counting their money and not trying.

bumbleb33ParticipantEnjoy his outspoken personality and drama while it lasts. Federer/djokovic/almost all top players started out as rowdy as him. In two years Nick’s PR people will have his balls in a vice and those boring tennis fans will get another robot to worship.
Plus, what he said wasnt even that bad. Most people dont know the context of it which is that the guy he trashtalked (Wawrinka) accused him of faking injury the last time they played (ironically this match ended with him retiring 4-0 in the third). Wawrinka seems like a bit of a pussy actually, he took to twitter and wrote a short essay about how he wouldn’t have said those things to his "worst enemy". Bit of a drama queen
Anyway, dont get me wrong this kyrgios kid is clearly a tool but he had me and my friends talking about tennis more in the past day than the last five years probably

HitsterParticipantAs an English guy, I’m a huge cricket fan which a lot of people would see as a more gentlemanly sport but the trash talk/sledging in that is well known.
With regard to the Nick Krygios incident, the Aussies are well known for being trash talkers in many sports.
One of my favourite cricketing trash talk incidents went like this :- Aussie cricketer "How’s your wife and my kids?" English cricketer "Wife is fine, kids are retarded"
It is always great to beat the Aussies at cricket and get the Ashes back.
I always like the MJ version of trash talk, he’d tell his defender exactly what he was going to do and still go and execute the move and score.
