Bad DogParticipantNot sure if any one already posted this. Another former star player who is now broke. Pretty crazy how easy it is for these guys to blow through millions.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThe guy was a bad alcoholic and it cut his career short. He makes no excuses and is open and honest about why he lost his money and threw away his career. You actually have to admire the fact that he is humble enough to take a job at Starbucks and work his way up from the bottom. I actually think this is a pretty positive story.

llperezagreed. On one hand i dont like when any athlete signs a big 7 year deal then quits competing and lets himself go. But alcoholism is a very real disease and to see him have the humbleness to go and get a regualr 9-5 is pretty cool. Hopefully he is in a happy place in life.

IlladelphParticipantYeah, I read that article a few days ago. I am sad to read that another NBA star blew threw his cash and is now forced to work a menial job.
I agree with you guys that he seems hsumbled, and sincere. I wish nothing but the best for him.
It boggles the mind that these guys can’t seem to just follow some basic saving guidelines so that they can retire in comfort. Baker made about 100 mill, and he works at SBUX? Had he saved 20% of his pre-tax income and blown the rest, he could have been living off of a safe 3% per year forever… in case anyone cannot do the math, that is 600K per year for doing absolutely nothing. He would have been paying himself 50K per month just to wake up and get out of bed.
