So, I saw a post that said "Let’s Talk Timberwolves". And I was thinking, Let’s Talk Jazz. I’m not sure about you guys, but I think that they have a brighter future than the T-Wolves. What do you all think? I know I haven’t given much opinion but I kinda want to see what you guys think first and then I’ll answer to this forum later.

Sure. I’ve started a collection. So far I’ve got Kind of Blue by Davis, Blue Train by Coltrane, and something by Thelonious Monk. Recommendations?

I love where this Jazz team is going. Defensively, this team has potential to be top notch. Exum, Hood, and Hayward are all lengthy and if committed could offer good perimeter D. Gobert offers first class rim protection and with Derrick Favors next to him (who is also a decent low post defender), the Jazz could be one of the best defensive teams in the league soon. I like the idea of starting Exum-Hood-Hayward-Favors-Gobertand having Burks and Burke come off the bench and light it up when the starters get stagnant.

The primary reason I believe in this team is Hayward. Waching him play, he has incredible footwork in his mid range pull up and going to the rim. He is an underrated shot creator and can shoot it from the three. He really took a leap last year and I’m expecting even more from him now. As a bitter Hornets fan who dreamed of having Hawyard, this was painful to write.

Utah has size, defense, versatility, shooting (looking at you, Rodney Hood) and youth on their side. Rudy Gobert is a future DPOY candidate, plus they have a fantastic young head coach in Quinn Snyder.

To me Exum and Favors are key to their success NEXT season. If they both take a step forward in their overall production then this team could achieve 46-50 wins.

It can go either way but I’m not sure how much I can trust quin Snyder hasn’t really proven anything. I’m leaning towards Minny cause they do have the back to back to back #1’s.

The Jazz definitely though have the right roster. Favors, Hayward, and now I’m convinced Gobert are top 10 in their position. I’m going to get destroyed when I say this, but I still think Exum will make the strides and be the 2nd best player of his class behind wiggins when it’s all said and done, he’ll be top 10 in his position too. No one on your team comes off as selfish, and you guys don’t really have holes. I absolutely love Lyles, he can be like your Draymond offensively off the bench except way higher ceiling on that side of the ball.

if one team you guys remind of is definitely those late 90s, early 2000 trailblazers. Hopefully everything works out and both of you guys are eventually part of the elites.

Quinn Synder was amazing last year. He had nice offensive schemes, though he should speed up the pace more. Just a good tactitian and their defense should even get better with Burks coming back from a season-ending shoulder injury last December.

Everything is contingent upon Exum’s development. He was pretty good defensively for someone with that lack of strength and experience at 19 and he shot wasn’t broken but still bad. So with added strength this off-season, the next couple of years will be a barometer to how good he can be in their long-term. It’s important too since Hayward’s free agent is sooner than expected coming in two years since he really only signed a three-year deal instead of five and he’ll be highly coveted by everyone.

I know he ain’t a fool but he got to have one over .500 record before I can say he will lead the Jazz to the promise land.

i agree about Exum, it’s sink or swim with him, he can’t just be average

As a SG or a SF? I always think he has the size to play the 3, but lacks the footwork to properly defend. Will he start at the 2, or will he back-up Hayward at the 3?

I say the Wolves only because I think Wiggins and Towns are superstar caliber players, which should take them over the top, but the Jazz have so so so much potential lol! Tough one but I’ll go with Wolves because Jazz don’t have any potential "Superstar" top 10 player in the league. Their like Hawks west imo, win with sum of parts and not individual, but Talent and star power will always rule, which is what Sota has. With that said…………………………………..

I agree the Wolves have players with a different type of potential. You can only play five players at a time and when you have two and guys with superstar potential with Towns and Wiggins and a bunch of guys with star potential like Bazz, Lavine, Bennett, and Rubio your looking pretty good.

The Jazz have a great core with nice depth but I don’t see anyone on that team with Wiggins or Towns upside. Favors and Hayward are qaulity starters and maybe allstars this year though. If Burke and Exum can give some qaulity minutes at the point this team will be scary. Watching the positional competition and how the rotations will settle in throughout the season will be fun. So much depth.

Don’t forget about Burks hes been stealing peoples minutes his whole career.

You guys nailed most of the points that I would make for Utah,   I would add a few things:

Hood:  At the end of the year he started to look like a very well-rounded offensive player who could make an all-star team at some point.  He is also such a great team player and committed defender that he is a plus on both ends.  Jazz brass said that after seeing his progress, his work this summer, and speaking with him, they dropped all plans to go after any of the excellent wings available.  I believe he has Butler potential with less defense and better offense/shooting.

Snyder:  Simply put, he is brilliant.  Brilliant people don’t always make good coaches, but he seems to have 100% buy-in and is a great communicator with players and the media.  Players and media LOVE him.  The entire culture has changed dramatically.  I feel that the Jazz are as lucky to have hired Snyder as they were to have picked Gobert at #27.

Favors: His PER last season was 24ish.  He gets better every year.  He is an extremely versatile defender. He can guard on the perimeter and the post and punish a smaller player down low.  He has sort of an old Duncan effect on the team where he can do so many things so he just does what they need to win.

No bad contracts, and a lot of GREAT contracts:  Monstly due to so many on rookie contracts, but Favors, Burks and Hayward are all being paid will below their market value right now.

Management and coach on the same page.  Love how they are working together.  They are old colleagues from SA, so no surprise here.

     I pick Utah, but…

I LOVE Towns and Wiggins in Minnesota.  The jury is out on the rest of the team, but those two have a higher ceiling than anyone on the Jazz roster.  I think the rest of the roster will have some hits and misses, but those two should carry Minnesota toward a OKC-type existence eventually.

Winning_Time: I like Hayward too and really believe that he should be an All-Star next year. I also really like their defense like you said.

high floor: I really like what the Jazz are doing too and I think that Dennis Lindsay is a genius for coming up with this.

Memphis Madness and Mopgrass: Well… Thanks for coming.

SkalandJamal: I trust Snyder with what he’s doing with the Jazz I feel like that he will be a very successful coach. You look at how they exceeded expectations last year. You can’t do that without a good coach. So I think that he’ll be fine for them.

Robb_C: That’s pretty cool that you talked to Snyder. Hook me up sometime.

and BallGawd_01: The Jazz have Exum who people have compared to Kobe. I know it was SL and all but he attacked the rim a lot more and made his shot at a better clip. I think that both Exum and Gobert have potential to be top 10. Not saying they both will. But I think that at least one of those guys will be.

I feel like any team with Rudy Gobert can be a force.  He is a guy you have to game plan for.  I like bigs so he and Favors give them a lot.  Then they have Trey Lyles as an extra 3/4.  Hayward is good.  The key is comparing Dante Exum to Zach Lavine while we look at the upsides of the T Wolves and Jazz franchises.

I’m a Jazz fan but I’m not convinced we have a better future than the T-Wolves. I think we will likely make the playoffs before they will though.

The Jazz are pretty much done building the team. The Wolves on the other hand likely have another couple of years of lottery picks.

The T-Wolves in a few years.

PG: Rubio, Likely someone like Dennis Smith or De’aaron Fox in the future

SG: Lavine, Huge potential if he turns out.

SF: Wiggins. Allstar in the future unless injury happens.

PF: Bennett. I’m guessing next draft they get Skal, Dragan or Rabb as a future PF.

C: Towns. Likely a Allstar unless injury.

I just don’t see the Jazz having the same upside as Minnesota does.

The Wolves definitely won’t make the playoffs, but I think they might improve so quickly that they wouldn’t be in the running for Skai. They’ll hopefully get a full year out of Rubio, Garnett, Pekovic, and Martin. That should help and so should the development of Wiggins, LaVine, Shabbazz, Towns, and Dieng. Bennett or Payne will have to step up. But that’s a lot of improvement. I have trouble seeing the bottom 4.

The Jazz are a bit further in the process, and their players might have a bit less upside that those of the Wolves. Guys like Gobert, Favors and Hayward already showed more than Wiggins, LaVine and Towns. So I see the Jazz getting into the playoffs this or next year, while the Wolves will arrive next year or the year thereafter as an 8th seed.

Title caliber team in the future, They have 4 great building blocks: Hood – next great sharp shooting guard, next Ray Allen/Allan Houston, Gordon Hayward – his numbers on offense are amazing, very effective creator, Favors. – keep improving and becoming more and more offensive threat on top of his presence on defense and boards, Gobert – next Dikembe Mutombo…

I like the Jazz but they go as far as Exum goes. If they keep that core group and let it marinate they could be really good, but depending on how Exum stacks up among the rest of the PGs in the league in 5 years will kind of decide their fate. Or obviously if they go get a top point guard they could be real contenders at some point

LOVE what they’re doing:A terrific coach, and good/versatile/hardworking young guys willing to improve. This team has more talernt than we realize. Gobert could be a DPOY,Exum might become the best defensive PG. Gordon Hayward is getting closer to elite level,Rodney Hood will be the steal of the 2014 draft to me. I honestly think that they’ll win 50 games this year. Nobody can score on them, and they’ll only get better on the offensive end. By the way,Snyder was an assistant coach in Atlanta and San Antonio, that tells you all you need to know about how he wants them to play:unselfish.
