Look I know there’s a lot to get excited with a long player who can shoot, but man KDs, just like LeBrons just like Shaqs, MJs, Dirks, don’t grow on trees. Literally every year there is at least 3 guys who are the "next KD". Kevon Looney was one, Wiggins, Perry Jones, Quincy Miller for example, now it’s brandon ingram, Michael Porter, Jonathan Isaac are up next. My friend even told me Giannis is the next KD…

Anyways who ever is "up next" realistically are more like Loul Deng, Gallinari, and Rudy Gay… Except Giannis and Wiggins. Giannis is a super raw Scottie Pippen and Wiggins is a non-killer Kobe.

When a prospect can do this

    nike hoop summit: 22 mins, 20 points, 7 rebounds, 2 3-pointers made

    McDonald’s all-American: 18 mins, 25 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 3-pointers made

    Jordan brand: 24 mins, 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 3-pointers made

Then realistically can put up these numbers his frosh year: 26-11… 40% from 3, with making 2 3-pointers a game… With being 6’11 and having a 7’6 wingspan as his measurements… Then yeah maybe the comparison might be fair… But moral of the story, KD is a freak.

I completely agree, I’ve had this same thought as well.. I think guys coming out of high school that are 6’9 and rail thin, that have some nice ball handling skills and can shoot will always get that lazy KD comparison.. In my opinion I think players with these attributes look up to KD due to his similar physical build..KD is a great ball player dont get me wrong, amazing talent.. But we all know that KD is built like a 12 year old boy with rapid growth hormones..

He is just a freak, he might be the eminem of basketball thinking about it.

      1. People say [insert skinny long player who can shoot name here] is the next KD like [imsert young white rapper name here] is the next Eminem.

      2. There’s only one real slim-shady, like there’s only one real slim-reaper.

Whilst I agree, you say stop comparing people to KD then compare two guys to Scottie Pippen and Kobe Bryant, C’mon man.

Those two are Hall of Fame guys, Kobe being one of the top 2-guards ever and Wiggins is a SF who plays a lot different. Pippen is known to be a good outside shooter, Giannis is not at all, so the comparisons are great, but arguing about comparing players then comparing players seems a little redundant.

Personally I love player comparisons they are a lot of fun to throw out there.

Yes I understand I did that but you got to understand these are warranted comparisons. I’m comparing teenager wiggins to teenager Kobe. And I’m comparing Early 20s Giannis to early 20s Scottie. Which unlike any of these kids who are getting KD comparisons were anywhere close to as good as high school senior/college frosh KD.

Kobe has compared himself to Wiggins plenty of times, both had that NBA dad, and really… If Kobe loses his killer mentality, that really takes him out of the discussion of being one of the greatest ever(which I know Wiggins won’t be… He’ll still be a hell of a player)… I say this with having a personal opinion that Kobe is the GOAT(no I don’t want to debate if he is the GOAT right now).

Giannis, he could really be Scottie’s long lost nephew just look at a photo face to face. They both are long, all-around, perimeter defending, small-forwards… And Scottie didn’t become a good NBA player until he was 24. So when I say super raw Scottie I’m comparing him to Scottie when he was 23 years or younger, since Giannis is 20.

      just look at the stats

      Giannis at 20: 31.4 mpg, 12.7 PPG, 6.7 rpg, 2.6 APG, 1 BPG, .9 spg, 49 FG%, .1 3-pointer per game on 16%

      scottie at 23: 33.1 mpg, 14.4 ppg, 6.1 RPG, 3.5 APG, 0.8 BPG, 1.9 spg, 48 FG%, .3 3-pointers per game on 27%

I just kinda see what he’s seeing http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/12/kobe-bryant-andrew-wiggins-scoring-record

i don’t think wiggins is a killer like the mamba, but the way he flies, the way sometimes he makes scoring look so effortless, and the way you can see him be a perinnial all-defensive team player for the rest of his career, the way you can see him holding his own against superstars like Durant and LeBron, the way he gave Harden the business this year.. All while being a young buck… Reminds me of when Kobe was the new kid.

The big difference is yes, Wiggins got a chip on a shoulder and is driven to out-duel the guy who he guards and that guards him… But he doesn’t seem like the type of guy who wants to demoralize your whole team like Kobe.

As he was recently brought up on this site, could everyone please please please compare these fools to Tim Thomas instead of KD. Instead of someone maybe being as good as Durant if he works hard enough, its way more fun to say if said player has a heart and/or soul, he’ll maybe a better version of Tim Thomas.

If they drop 26ppg and 11rpg as a freshman, then yeah, they can be called the next KD.

Dude was not only long, but came ready to play.  Most of these guys who they call "the next whoever" are incredibly raw.

Player comparisons are the most overrated thing in the NBA that is taken way too seriously by fans. When you compare a young player to an all time great, you’re not saying he is going to be as good as said player, but you’re saying who the player models his game after. Player comparisons are basically for fans who don’t really watch college or international ball and want to know more about a prospect.

Think about it, if you are a casual or young fan and you log onto NBAdraft.net to read about a player, and you see Andrea Bargnani being compared to a taller Detlef Schrempf, are you going to have any clue who that is? The Dirk comparison is something that can be recognized easier.

I think people need to stop with the Brandon Ingram and KD comparisons. Ingram will have a nice season at Duke but he’s not anywhere close to being on KD’s level.

If ingram gets half the points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks KD got, Duke fans should be happy lol
