EspressoprodigyParticipantSo i put Michael Porter wingspan in google and start coming across a bunch of articles that mention it how his wingspan has increased to 7’9, supposedly confirmed by ESPN.
Funny enough, his mixtape’s title from yesterday’s goes by "best player in the country", which had people commenting how they also thought he was the best. Not trying to give any youtubers any type of credit, but after keeping track of him for like a month, I can tell you that people weren’t commenting that ‘he’s the best player in HS’ a month ago.
If I already thought he was the best prospect in HS, after finding out he has a 7’9 wingspan I’m confirming it, remember that. He could have the longest wingpan ever recorded sitting as a 6’11 perimeter player, with a jumper and athletic ability.
He’s becoming one of the best prospects I have ever seen.

hoopscopParticipantMichael is a tremendous talent, a surefire superstar but he is not long and that is the great disclaimer. He is probably 6’9 with shoes and his wingspan is 6’9-6’10, you can see the relatively short arms. Kevin has a wingspan of 7’4+, so You can’t block his shot. As for Michael he has the same touch, is more explosive and will be the same level ballhandler. Would he be longer he would a heigher ceiling even as Marvin.

EspressoprodigyParticipantKD’s standing reach is 9’2ft now, but since I already know where to get my measurements from and how to use them correctly, in 2006 which is KD’s college year, a better measuremtn to compare against Porter, Durant standing reach was 9’0.5ft. Which is a 2 inch difference. Porter has two more years of HS to go and still growing.

Stengths
He has an incredible combination of size, length, and skill that is almost unprecedented at this early stage of his development. He shoots the ball with deep range, has a high and compact release to get his shot off at virtually any point, and is equally proficient at scoring over top of contesting defenders with his pull-up game inside the lane. He is also pretty fluid with the ball in his hands, has good perimeter footwork off the catch with his jab series, and a good left hand to both score and pass off the dribble. His length (seven-foot-nine wingspan) is absolutely off the charts and so he’s going to have some type of impact on the defensive end of the floor as well.
Weaknesses
Porter isn’t yet totally explosive and he can be hesitate to play through contact at times. He’s not going to be totally coordinated until he stops growing, and right at the moment there doesn’t appear to be any signs of that. He needs to learn to play in straight lines off the dribble, become more assertive, and just a little tougher. Defensively, he’s going to need to establish a position for himself and learn to better utilize his tools as a weak-side shot-blocker. He could also be a more consistent rebounder on both ends.
Buttom-line
His upside is scary good and so while some will make references to the likes of Kevin Garnett, he could also turn out to be more like Austin Daye if he doesn’t learn to impact the game more inside the paint and around the rim.

GBeeParticipantLol. What the hell? You could just look at Porter to know that that 7’9 measurement is wrong. If you want to see arms around that length look at Mohammed Bamba and compare. If you still believe in that 7’9 measurement then get your eyes checked.

mikeyvthedonParticipantI agree that Michael Porter is a very good player/prospect, though the 7’9 thing was most definitely a typo from the 2014 Nike Elite 100 Measurements. They always seem to have a few, did this year as well. When I actually asked Adam Finkelstein on twitter, he smugly gave me the "it said it on the sheet" response, though other people at the camp agreed, that his wingspan was not a foot more than his height. It would have made his wingspan four inches longer than Udoka Azubuike, which, just is not true. So, Rudy No-bert on that one.
Now, the one I have heard is real and truly Rudy Gobert-esque was Mohamed Bamba this year. He measured with a 7’8 wingspan and apparently also had a 9’5 standing reach. It seems crazy, because he is also a veritable toothpick (6’10-6’11/195 lbs) and have yet to see him in person, though have heard it is indeed the real deal, dude has ridiculous physical attributes. On top of that moves really well for a big. Here was the sheet from this year:
Many of them seem legit. Than you have Christian Popoola’s 7’5.5 wingspan to his or Myles Douglas with a 7’5 wingspan. Thinking they missed the "6" on those two. Plus, at the Hoop Summit, they accidentally switched Brandon Ingram and Isaiah Briscoe’s wingspan. Think it is a must to be skeptical over these wingspan measurements that seem absurd, because they very well could be. In the case of Porter, I was pretty disappointed that Finkelstein did not say to himself "it sure doesn’t look like this guys wingspan is 4 inches longer than Udoka Azubuike’s".
Also, for the hell of it, here was trying to rationalize the fact that Michael Porter, John Petty and Wyatt Wilkes all had wingspans a foot longer than their listed heights:

I like Adam Finkelstein. Did not love how this was handled. Wish these measurements were maybe proofread before release, but, for the most part they give you an idea. My big point in asking all of the questions surrounding this was so that something like this post would never happen, lol.
