I personally love the decision for the kid and it makes college basketball more competitive in 2016-17 season. He has a pretty high ceiling and actually getting coached now should do wonders for him. He has potential to be a good midrange shooter and defensive beast, and in Bennett’s offense and defense, seems like he’ll fit just in especially with him sitting out a year trying to learn.

Great to see teams like Gonzaga, Virginia, San Diego state, Arizona, etc. having a plan set up to be pretty competitive at least these next 2-5 years

With him, Kyle Guy and Ty Jerome all coming in next season… Wow they are gonna be really good

I thought he should have gone to Duke.  Better school, better coach, better program, better academics, better success in the NBA.

Virginia is solid all around though, and seems to be an up and coming program.

Best hope for UVA is that Austin Nichols turns into their own Christain Laettner and they make a DEEP run.

UVA could be the "next" Duke.  Duke really took off in the 80’s.  Gonzaga did that later on to a lesser extent.  Why can’t Virginia?  Now that it looks like UNC has lots its touch…

I think the Nichols and Duke matchup would have had a little risk since Duke just came off a national title with playing 4 perimeter players in the starting lineup and they are likely going to go 4 again with Ingram. Nichols only chance to make the league is if he can show he is a beast 4 in college. Since Anthony Gill got 14 and 7, Nichols could definitely take his role and expand it and get 18 and 9. Also Virginia gave Duke a run for their money the past two years.

and I’m sure right now Duke is the front runner for Giles and I’m sure they would rather have Giles than Nichols.

I don’t think UVA will be the next Virginia because Duke is staying steady. 16-17 they probably at least got Tatum, Thornton, Jeter, Kennard, Matt Jones, obi, Giles/Maker, front-runners for Dennis Smith jr.

UVA is still a good choice.  People knock them for their pace, but they do run some pro style stuff especially their defense which shares a lot of similarities with pro style M2M help defense.

I’d look to see more blue chippers play for that program.  They play a winning style, the coaching is excellent and players improve under them. I think 5 star-ers tend to overlook (or fail to recognize) good coaching and just go by recent draft history, bypassing programs like Virginia.

Nichols has NBA talent and he made the right choice to leave, albeit too late. I don’t see why any top player would want to play for Memphis given their recent history, crappy coaching and player development.  He has the skill and he has the length, but he needs work on his body. Hopefully he uses this transfer year wisely.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Bennett gets his guys to play together just as well as any other coach in college which is why he won two COYs. He gets players in the league too. Nichols wanted to stay home and be the man, but he can’t let that get away from his future lol
