Per yahoosports, the Miami Heat have traded Shabazz Napier to Orlando for a future protected 2nd round pick.

I like this deal for Orlando. I think Napier should receive more minutes as their 3rd/4th guard, and is a capable shooter from behind the 3pt line to further make up for Elfrid Payton’s deficiency. Orlando has a couple of nice backups now in CJ Watson and Napier.

Great draft pick by Pat Riley. For all those who talk about how great he is as a GM, I’d love to see him do it in a market that doesn’t sell itself.

I think you mean great draft pick by Lebron James right?

The only reason Riley drafted Napier is because Lebron was waxing lyrical about how good he was on Twitter and Riley was trying to keep him happy.

Well, clearly it didn’t work out and Riley made the right call moving on.

Chalmers is a decent back-up PG still and Winslow showed he could play a little point off the bench as well.

Payton and Watson are point guards. Oladipo and Fournier are shooting guards, but require the ball to be effective offensively.

I know it’s a salary dump and the Magic have nothing to lose, but does Napier even touch the ball that much with the other guards they have?

I’m not surprised by this at all.

I remember watching Napier play with Lamb and Drummond at UConn and thinking the kid just didn’t get what teamwork meant.

He was all about the glory and being a star, there was one play where Drummond busted his butt sprinting ahead in transition and all Napier had to do was reward the big fella with a pass for an open dunk, but he took it in himself for a contested layup himself, which he made, but it’s besides the point.

Don’t get me wrong, they had a great run to win the NCAA championship, but I think that was more on Kevin Ollie coaching than Napier being the second coming of Kemba Walker.

If he isn’t the best player on his team he doesn’t know how to contribute IMO.

Drafted for Lebron and they drafted wrong. He might get cut.

Orlando needs (spot-up) shooters, preferably guys who don’t need the ball in their hands. Napier doesn’t offer this at all. However, considering the pick is heavily protected (31-55) Orlando takes a chance on Napier. If I where the GM, I wouldn’t want to take on the additional salary for player with limited upside… after making the wrong pick in the first place, dumping Napier is a smart move by the Heat.

This is why you don’t listen to your players on who to draft, I know it was some sort of weak last effort to keep Lebron…but seriously? Napier stinks.

Napier is really good.. He must go in the mindsey of beating out Payton.. Him and Oladipo could be a better backcourt than Payon and VO.. But Bazz has to work
