Every new season brings new rookies and one of my favourite parts is picking one or two to follow. Last season was Wiggins (one of my fave players now) and the surprise that was Jordan Clarkson.

This season Myles Turner, Joe Young and Rakeem Christmas will all have my attention, in particular Turner who is my second fave Pacers now behind PG. So outside of Pacers rookies I really look forward to watching:

Stanley Johnson – I really like wing players and I love the physicality that Johnson plays with. I was really impressed with him at Orlando and followed him at his single Arizona season he has a great opportunity in Detroit and he offers them exactly what they need, he will start sooner rather than later I am sure. Despite being in a Division rival team I really hope he has a great season/career.

Justin Anderson – Like Turner and Johnson potential to be a two-way player and I feel he will be a solid 3-D guy and could be something like a new Mav, Wesley Matthews.

So who you guys excited to see this coming season?

I’m excited to watch rookies who will get serious playing time most of all. So even though I love Hezonja out of all the rookies, I wouldn’t be to excited following him this season because he’d be playing behind guys like Harris and Oladipo. The two players I’m most excited to follow are Okafor and Mudiay because most of all, they’d be getting serious playing time with their teams. Can’t wait to watch their in-game highlights this season.

Of course I would follow Justise Winslow even though he is coming off the bench, one of my favorites alongside Wade and the Dragon. I want to see how he develops his game alongside guys like Wade and Deng. Okafor is another one I am excited to watch because he gets a lot of playing time for the Sixers. The other ones are Devin Booker and Kristaps Porzingis. Booker because he is one of those guys that the Heat have targeted during the draft and I was impressed by his play in SL. Porzingis because I wanted NY regretting booing him on draft night hehe by playing well. that is all

I’m excited to see what Justin Anderson does, as he was my favourite player in the draft even though I don’t think he was the best player. Was so excited when my Mavs took him, can’t wait to see what he can bring to our team, and I’m hoping he can develop into a starting calibre 3 and D guy.

Also very excited to see how Devin Booker plays, for a guy so young he already has an NBA level attribute in his shooting, going to be interesting to see his ups and downs through his first pro season, I expect big things from this young man down the line.

& Russell has MUCH bigger problems than Kobe – he’s an average shooter, a Way below average athlete (which DOES matter in the NBA), he can NOT create his own Shot b/c of NO 1st step & he’s a Turnstile on Defense… All that is bad enough but b/c the pressure of being taken instead of OBVIOUS 6’11” 275 Lb STUD Jahlil Okafor, the pressure is going to eat him up…. which isn’t really fair b/c he didn’t Draft himself….

I’m excited to watch Towns, Okafor, and Turner. I think Towns will get good knowledge from KG and will see a lot of growth after the All Star break. Okafor is starting from day one. You will be on a mission to prove he should of been #1 pick. And Turner is built for the pro game and could help the Pacers sooner rather then later.

I’m excited for all the Kentucky boys, but that’s way too easy. I like doing the same thing, picking a few random rookies to follow throughout the course of the season. I’m excited about Okafor and Mudiay like everyone else said because they’ll be getting a crazy amount of numbers and no doubt be making highlights, but I’ll go with a few different guys.

Stanley Johnson – always loved his game going back to HS. I think he could push the Pistons into the playoffs

Bobby Portis – even though he might not get a whole lot of minutes with the big man logjam they have, I think he can make an instant impact and could see him making big plays in the playoffs

Terry Rozier/Jordan Mickey/RJ Hunter – mainly just to see how Brad Stevens can make these guys contribute way more than anyone thought they would before the draft. And I like Rozier’s and Mickey’s styles, I got to see a lot of both being a UK fan

Mario Hezonja/Kristaps Porzingis – I just really hate international busts and think these guys can really be something special. Hezonja could potentially be a slightly less athletic T-Mac and Porzingis can be some weird mixture of Dirk and someone else that’s athletic and good at defense. And I really want to see Knicks fans eat their boos

Besides the guys at the very top I see most of these guys getting burried on the pine for a good amount of their rookie season. Obviously guys like Turner and Winslow will see more significant minutes than others in the middle of the lottery but I want to see our guy Booker get some time with my Suns early on.

One guy who played with chip on their shoulder in SL and hopes get significant mintues to be a surprise is Norman Powell. I think he might end up seeing more court time this season than Delon Wright.

on EVERY Mock Draft  I saw ALL last year so while I believe that ALL the Scouts got it right a year ago when they said that Okafor & Mudiay are the ONLY two potential Stars (players who can Impact the game on a Very high Level at Both ends) in this Draft (I think Towns can get there too w/ time) – I loke Booker in that next tier down – Booker has Excellent size & the purest Stroke in this year’s draft & Powell can be a decent contributor after a few years (it’s Very hard for Rookies to get on the floor)…

Rashad Vaughn and Justin Anderson are my guys. Been talking to Rashad occasionally ever since the Mickey D’s game he played in, and Justin during the predraft workouts. I think both got a serious chance to be that Kawhi/Klay/Jimmy Butler type of player. Ashame Justin couldn’t land on my Lakers he really wanted to come here 🙁 but I hope carlisile gives him a chance. He’s a sponge though, I’m a nobody and I told him he could be more than just a 3-D guy, he can an explosive finisher and he do a lot off of 2-3 dribbles, and he said he’ll work on that and ala summer league he showed that part of his game.

This is one of the reasons I lover basketball-reference.com

You can pull up a draft and they have sortable numbers for that class. You can quickly find out who is leading in any of the key stats for rookies or previous classes.

Yeah, what’s so impressive about elite athleticism at the point guard position.

I mean, big deal if Rozier is already better than D’Angelo Russell, and always will be.

Defense, fast break athleticism, and the ability to get to the rim at will are highly underrated.

It’s all about the one handed spin pass. Which conveniently doesn’t require NBA strength or athleticism to pull off.

I don;t think Philly EVER wanted Russell – they had their eyes on Mudiay since BEFORE the 2014 Draft but when Okafor fell to them I think they ished themselves & OF COURSE took him… W/ people’s obsession w/ all the great combo guards dominating the NBA what they failed to realize is that the NBA moves in Cycles & Many of those guards that Flooded the Draft cause a Drought at the College Level & now this Decade Dominant Bigs are returning & it’s Laughable that Philly has 3 of those 5 (Okafor, Towns, Embiid, Noel & Davis) – They will be Destroying the League in 5 years… Anyway, D’Angelo Russell was a Media creation – do people think that ESPN & other sports sites are going to say well there’s Only one potentially great guard this year & he’s in China? Nope they are going to CREATE Draft stars & that’s Russell to a Tee – the Hysterical part is that Professional talking heads STILL won;t belive their owns eyes after Russell was Revealed as Fraud & STILL compare him to Curry & Harden – when he is NEITHER guy or even close – Curry avg 30 a game & shot 50% in college – Russell was an average scorer (14 ppg) & an average shooter (44%) – he has ZERO 1st step so he can NOT Create his own Shot OR get to the Line – he has an Incredibly slow release compared to Curry almost Inhuman quick release & Russell is a Human TURNSTILE – L.A. had to pull Hibbert off Indiana’s Scrap heap to defend the Rim b/c if L.A. does not have a Rim Protector I don;t see how they can even put Russell on the Floor…. But hey he’s got that tricky back door princeton offense reverse spin pass LOL! Keep that Spin pass highlight close to your Heart Laker fans as Okafor – the ONLY Rookie to draw a Double – & sometimes TRIPLE – teams on EVERY play Avergaes 20, 10 & 5(assists) from Day ONE…
