my god, I know this guy had post moves and I know its only summer league, but jesus christ, you just don’t see anyone doing post moves like that in todays game. In 3 years, this guy will dominate the center position if he stays healthy. Those post moves remind me of Hakeem and Duncan. Sixers are still going to struggle because they have no point guard and nobody can really shoot that well. It looks like they’re going to grab a bunhc of picks next year and hopefully they can pick up a solid PG to run the offense. With Dario Sarik and possibly Embiid coming back for the 2017 season, they have scary potential.

The Al Jefferson comparison is very poor. This guy is going to have a much better career than Al Jefferson. If he improves his free throws and improves his defense, he could be a force in the eastern conference.  His offensive game is way more advanced than Al Jefferson. Offensively, he compare him to Duncan, but he really needs to work on his defense and free throws.

In what respect is he “way more advanced”? He seems a little bit more light-footed than Jefferson, which is what you would expect given the difference in age. Jefferson also has a variety of tricks to get his shot off in the post, using pumpfakes and spin move to get close to the basket, and is passing skills are underrated as well.

All in all, I think we’re underrating Big Al and overrating Okafor here. As soon as Okafor puts up 20-10 a season I will start to believe he is better than Jefferson. And in the end, if Okafor ends up as good as Jefferson I would be more than happy as a franchise.

He looks OK..I saw where he was blocked by the Knicks atleast 4x, a couples time by a player I never heard of. Not that much lift, forced a couple of shots. You gotta rememeber he’s playing against a bunch of guys who won’t make a NBA team. But I think he’ll have a good career, so far just OK.

I think that there will be an adjustment period for Okafor while he gets used to going up against the size that he will be facing in the NBA.

His conditioning will have to improve as well if he is going to elevate more and dunk some of the balls that get blocked when he is under the basket.

He is also going to have a hard time with the Sixer guards being able to get him the ball in the right spots with time on the clock. In the summer league he is not getting the ball correctly alot of the time so he is trying to get out of difficult situations more than just executing his post offense.

He can do things that simpy can’t be taught though. His hands, his feet, his ability with both hands, his touch, his moves in general are all really elite when it comes to offense.

He is also smart, competetive, and a good and willing passer. His free throw shooting and defense will have to improve though for him to really be a great player.

The only thing I can say about his offensive game is that he needs to work on being better with his left hand. Everything else has been as good if not better than what I expected.

He has very good footwork and a nice touch around the basket but he gets very little elevation. He has gotten a bunch of his shots blocked so far, and shown that he may initially struggle against longer defenders. He seems to wear down when on the court for long periods of time and doesn’t always work to establish deep post position. Too many of his catches have come from the mid-range area where he has to put the ball on the floor and beat his defender and that is not his strong suit ( although his ball-handling is better than expected). He needs to work on getting in better shape imo to be on the court for long periods and not lose effectiveness.

I’d eventually like to see him develop that 15-18 foot jumper that Lopez, Duncan, Jefferson, etc. all have in their repetiore. I feel it will make him that much more effective. He also needs to do a better job recognizing and passing out of double teams. Overall, his performance so far has been about what I expected.

Wonder how Nerlens and Okafor will coexist.  Ok needs a guy like that to help out on defense, but Nerlens doesn’t really space the floor on offense.

If it were up to me, i would run pick and rolls all day with Wroten and Noel then have Ok posting up on the weak side with Stauskas spotting up on the strong side, or for the corner 3.

Then get a small forward who can get in the way on defense and out of the way on offense.  Funny how most players do the exact OPPOSITE.

Tokoto and Jerian Grant look like solid athletic defender types, but the Sixers need a SHOOTER at this spot.  If Robert Covington can shoot then I would start him at the 3.

I think Ok can draw in enough double teams (with Wroten’s slash and kick game, too) to get Nik Stauskas (or whoever) some good looks at the 3 point line.

First thing they need to do is get some chemistry going on both sides of the ball.  THEN throw in some specific plays.

They should also look at picking up a cheap stretch 4 who can play with either Ok (Jahlil Okafor) or Nerlens.  If Steve Novak is still available then he could be an option…  Josh Harrellson is a blue collar rebounder who has 3 point range.  I saw his line in a box score from one of last night’s games and it looked pretty solid.

If Aaron Craft doesn’t get picked up by the Warriors then he might be a no-frills floor leader who could do well with this Sixers squad.

The big question I have for them is if Embiid ever returns where does he fit? Do you trade one or do you go with the twin towers look ? Personally I’d love to see JO and JE play together with Noel off the bench

Okafor has played pretty well, impressive actually. However, I’m not overwhelmed. MAybe I’m being unfair, but i think about the guys he’s going against, then I think about Howard, Gasol, Cousins, and Jordan and I say "Will he do the same thing going against those guys?"

Hes so much quicker than I thought.. I think any combination of Embiid/Okafor/Noel can play with each other. Embiid/Okafor would be devastating offensively.

two guys who play back to the basket becomes a nightmare to guard. They would just need to add a few shooters around them and very tough to guard.

Embiid needs to be groomed as a backup center.  I would rarely play him more than 15-20 minutes a night.  OK on Offense and Noel on D should hold down the fort.  All they need is for either one of those two to get a mid-range jump shot.

I would tell Embiid to lose 10 pounds.  Take the second night of back to backs off.  They have to really manage his minutes and his entire career if they want him to stick around.

They can only play 2 of those big men at the same time anyway.  Might as well go with the best low post guy in Okafor and the best defensive guy in Noel.

The Sixers need to figure out the rest of their Big Three.  You would think Okafor and Noel are two of them.  Maybe it’s Wroten…  Embiid is still a core guy as are probably the aforementioned Wroten.  Covington, Stauskas, and Jerian Grant might be long term rotation guys for them.

They need at least one of the perimeter guys to be part of a Big Three.  If not, they need to look in the draft.

I think when it comes down to it, they need to find their next stud at the 1 or 3. I think Nerlens and Jahlil can coexist down low, and if Jo comes back to be healthy then you start him coming off the bench, but if he shows he can play night in night out then you might be able to use Nerlens as a high energy spark off the bench. Jo and Jah could be devastating (if healthy)

I think Stauskas can develop into a legit 2 with the guys down low, with Wroten, Grant, and Covington being good Rotation players.  They might be bark to find their next impact player at the 3 in the draft next year in Ben Simmons or Jaylen Brown, because I think Saric is better suited as a 4 instead of always playing on the wing (from what I’ve seen, it could change.)

PG is the one position they are in huge need of, they need a stud there with the players that are currently there.  Someone who can stretch the floor, facilitate, and get the ball inside. That is their biggest need in my opinion, the one need Hinkie actually decides to address through FA or Draft.

and I have to tell you the highlight for me was watching Joel Embiid in warm ups… Like evryone else I hear the sports media outlets destroy the Sixers as a joke Every chance they get so I was astonished w/ what I saw… First, I watched Embiid hit about 20 3-points in a row like it was nothing, Next he did a few trick dunks that most 6’6” guys can’t do & then I watched him do some Post work where he was fluid & effortless w/ his footwork & Both hands… But what Truly made my Jaw hit the floor was watching Blake Griffin & DeAndre Jordan walk over to shake hands & talk w/ Embiid… Embiid was a FULL head taller than Griffin & Jordan only came to his eyebrows… If this guy gets healthy he’s going to Destroy the League… During the game I was also Shocked at how Good Nerlens Noel is… He’s got to work on that 12 – 15 foot J but I was lead to believe the guy was uttlery inept Offesnively – far from it, he’s Freakishly quick & he’s got a sweet southpaw handle that he uses to pull his man away from the rim & then he puts the ball on the floor & blows by his man. He’s as advertised on Defense – he is a World Class rim protector, he’s got Incredible explosive leaping ability… Obviously I didn;t see Okafor live but I did see him in the Summer League & he’s incredible, he’s literally built like an Oak tree… He’s Tim Duncan 2.0… I watched him abuse Robert Upshaw & Porzingus physically & w/ Skill… Upshaw supposedly has Lottery skills & Okafor just bullie dhim. The Lakers had to Double & Triple him the whole game & Porzingus got abused by Okafor too, people miss that Porzingus drew 4 fouls in his first 10 minutes trying to guard Okafor & I think the refs just got sick of blowing the whistle… Porzingus would have fouled at by halftime in the reg season but w/ 10 fouls he remained & at least 3 of those 4 or 5 blocks would have been fouls also… Anyway, I’m getting off track… I know Noel has been training at the "4" for over a year in prep for Embiid so I think Okafor & Noel will be great down low & when Embiid returns you basically have 96 minutes to divide between 2 positions & 3 players – NO WAY would I trade ANY of those guys – play tem all 33 min a game, frsh for the playoffs, longer careers, w/ the new salary cap they can afford it – they’ve got Saric on the way & a TON of 1st round picks – That Franchise was a Burning Wreck just 26 months ago when Hinkie took over & what they ALREADY have is Scary… But for the O.G. post Okafor is as advertised – I actually rate him above Towns who is just too narrow from the hips down… The Lakers will regret the 2015 Draft for the next 15 years….

He needs a lot less weight on those feet. The reason it did not heal right is he was too heavy. He has looked heavy the last 2 years. In order to heal up and be able to train properly for a NBA season he must be much lighter before he starts working out again. Vegetarian, Pescatarian diet tor him.

Joel Embiid is 7’2, 250. He is perfectly fine size-wise. He loses weight he’s in the Porzingis area. Embiid is going to play 25-30 minutes a game when he comes back. He’s a stud, he’ll be starting. He played 25-30 minutes a game at Kansas, and that’s where he’ll be.

     Ralph Sampson played at 238.

Rik Smits played better when he slimmed down.

Embiid could lose a few pounds.  Oh, and stay away from carbs and gluten.

Oops, Ralph Sampson played at 228.  And he STILL didn’t hold up well.

I’ve realized one thing with Okafor, the more I watch him,the less I’m impressed. The first moves he does in a game you say "wow" and then he keeps doing those moves, then he gets blocked, then he misses his free throws, then he doesn’t battle inside anymore, gives up rebounds. He’s gonna improve no doubt, but no left hand,no outside shooting(nor FT shooting) and not that good D will not win you many games in the NBA. I can’t see how he will be able to dominate inside NBA players with all these weaknesses.

Very impress, and to think he’s doing all that in summer league which the style is more for guards and it’s harder for big man to product because ther’s no system…
