khaled_a_dParticipantAccording to sources,#Sixers center Joel Embiid will have a second surgery and is likely to miss 2015-16 season.

Magic JordanParticipantThere were alot of Philly fans on this site claiming his new injury was a hoax and it was just Hinkie being Hinkie….well, still part of the master plan?
Definitely don’t feel bad for Philly fans but I do for this kid. I was so excited to watch him play in the league. He was one of those players at Kansas that would do things that would make your jaw drop. I have no doubt that if he was healthy he would have ended up one of the best bigs in the league. His physical gifts and skill set were pretty unbelievable for a kid playing for such a short period of time.
I hope he recovers somehow.

Memphisboy14ParticipantDon’t get me wrong I feel bad for Joel Embiid too. But why the hate for Philly fans. They didn’t do anything wrong.

NBAjunkie81ParticipantIt was probably part wishful thinking & partly b/c Hinkie has just destroyed other GM’s playing possum at Draft time – I absolutely believe the Sixers were trying to drive up the value of Russell & had Zero intention of Ever picking him… And look how he stockpiled picks in 2013 & 14 by spreading rumors & making trades…. But the fans are just starved for a winner….

Sewok15ParticipantThis angers me beyond belief…but if he does come back healthy next year and they bring Saric over look out. Hopefully they get another guard then and the playoffs could be realistic in the East. A lot of people question Philly having so many big guys but I think they will all be able to play together well because they are all good passers. Just please get healthy. I want to see him in a Sixers uniform so badly.

B-ball fanParticipantBut he has really not played that many games in his life and has already had knee/back/foot issues, with fractures in his back and foot. Since he is a 7 footer, it may be his body just can’t handle being a professional athlete. Being physically immature is probably one of the reasons for the stress fractures, but for a guy his size with so little experience, he may have a hard time ever getting healthy enough for a full NBA season.
I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer and Embiid seems like a good dude. I really hope he can recover and salvage his career. But I just can’t find myself feeling any optimism for his NBA career.

Reptilian MonkParticipantAnother tank season for the 76ers. Wouldn’t be surprised if they draft Skal over Simmons though they need more centers

NBAjunkie81ParticipantPlease explain what you would have done differently in those drafts??? In 2013 They acquired the best player in the draft plus 2 other Lottery picks for a broken down average PG, Noel was Not their draft pick, MCW was…. In 2014 every scout on planet earth said it was a 3 player draft of Embiid, Parker & Wiggins & claimed that Embiid was the Only player w/ franchise piece potential…. Cleveland was locked in to pick Embiid # 1 until they found the foot injury – so at # 3 who should Philly have taken if not Embiid? The players picked after Embiid at #3 were all garbage (look it up) & if Phila failed to grab Embiid Utah, Orlando, Boston & L.A. were ALL going to snap him up & in 2015 Okafor was the Consensus # 1 or #2 pick & according to scouts Okafor & Towns were Miles ahead of all the other prospects – I read Countless talent experts who were asked who Phila should take if they land the 1st or 2nd pick in the Lottery when they already have two stud big men & Every expert said "I don’t care, Okafor & Towns are so far above the rest of the Draft the Sixers Must take one or the other if they land in the top two…" The Lakers will regret taking NBA draft bust D’Angelo Russell for 10 years… It’s funny the Spurs have now have three 7 footers & espn can’t stop falling all over themselves to suck their nuts but Phila arguably drafted the Best player in each of the last 3 drafts but their morons… I’m not a Sixers fan but I guarentee that if they start wrecking the league in 3 or 4 years all these dopes w/ their sarcasm will claim they were on their bandwagon from day one… Do some thinking for yourself, I promise it won’t hurt that much… only a little at first…

ilike.panochasParticipantReally shame that this current generation has been cheated of getting the chance to witness two potential all-time great centers (Oden and Embiid). When he was at Kansas, all I can think of when watching Embiid was a young David Robinson.

HitsterParticipantSad news for Embiid, just hope he doesn’t turn out to be another Greg Oden type scenario. Foot issues for bigs are always a worry, Yao Ming had his career ended by a similar type injury.
I wonder if Philly knew he was struggling when they drafted Okafor. At least they should have Okafor and Noel in tandem but being minus MCW next year, I don’t see them really being that much better if at all even if Noel improves and Okafor’s post game gives them a legit front court.
Just really hope that Embiid can get fit and we see him on an NBA court showing the sort of potential we saw during his college year.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThey need to groom him as a 6th man. Noel and Okafor should be their guys inside.
embiid might only be a guy who can give you 15-20 minutes a night.
if his knees and feet are bad then he needs to lose some weight. I don’t care if he is even that big. Lose some weight and be a 7’1 version of Brandan Wright. His career is on the line. Then make him more of a stretch 5 like Chris Bosh to minimize the banging inside and the wear and tear.
Embiid is still a core guy but their Big Thee only has two players so far in Okafor and Noel.
in 2016 they should draft the guys that fit next to Okafor and Noel. I would more than likely to with a wing that can shoot unless Ben Simmons is on board — then you take him. Or, go with Skal and experiment with him at small forward.

Meditated StatesParticipantHopefully they improve before Oak and Noel contracts are up. Hopefully they both come back. If not it may be a few more lottery seasons. In time Philly will get there.

Memphisboy14ParticipantI hate this for Joel Embiid but when it was revealed that not only had he hurt his back but also fractured his foot I had flashbacks to Greg Oden and Yao Ming again. I can’t fault Philly for taking the risk and they did the right thing by not forcing him back soon and bringing him along slowly but I said it before the draft and said it after also that I don’t think his body is gonna be able to handle the rigors of an NBA season. I would never wish that on anyone and he seems like a good guy. I hope he’s able to comeback from it but I think he may just retire from the NBA once his rookie deal is up.

EspressoprodigyParticipantI am such a noob when it comes to injures, I don’t know anything about the time correlation.
Anyway…The Embiid scenrio is bad. Really bad.
It’s impossible not to get mad at this if you actually saw him play at Kansas and just thought of potential future. I don’t think Embiid had a single doubter in this entire website, every loved him.
I remember threads being started and people debating who is better Embiid vs. Brow Davis, and there were arguments. Embiid look like a future hall of famer in college. Skying for blocks, Dream Shake-ing, muscling poeople out the way, or straight posterizing, it was just unreal… he was being talked about the #1 prospect withing like 2 weeks of college season started after Wiggins and Parker where coming off UNREAL hype.
Saddest part is, even if he does come back, he will probably never be the same he would’ve had he not gotten hurt.
Him and Anthony Davis are the best prospects I have ever seen.

nath09ParticipantI just read in one if these posts "if he does come back healthy". What’s starting to get me with all the Sixers threads is the word if.
If Embid, If Saric, if we get the #1 pick, if if if.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not frustrated with the posters. I’m frustrated that a whole franchise rest on ifs.
What a rediculous way they’ve run the franchise. Drafting injured players, stash overseas players, building a roster that’s 200 foot tall and all this player movement and they do not have a star; infact (disregarding potential) Jason Thompson, Jason Richardson and Carl Landry are by far and away the three most accomplished players on this roster. Oh, and one of those is a centre!
Well after that I’m going to add one that Hinkie should have asked himself. If we’re not happy with Carter-Williams as our starting point guard WFAT IF we don’t trade Elfrid Payton.
Ok that rant is my 2c and it needs to be a new thread not a post in this one.

burgessfourParticipantthat monster jam Embiid threw down had anything to do with his foot regression. Seems like it happened about a month before the CT scan that showed less than expected healing. I’m a Sixers fan and I like the kid but just because he isn’t feeling any pain doesn’t mean his foot was ready for that type of activity.

HitsterParticipantIs there any timeframe for these types of injuries, seems ironic he could miss whole year again yet Paul George got back in about 8 months after his horrific break.
I’m not a medical expert so I’d be interested in any insight.
