 Well I guess the Rubio contract doesn’t look so bad anymore. In a year or two when every single PG in the league gets a new contract, Ricky will be paid more according to how he ranks. 

I can’t really knock this deal, or say its a good one. Jackson could be a good starting PG but there are still some holes in his game. Would like to see him be a little more efficient but he doesn’t knock down 3s or get to the FT line that much but he averaged 9 assists and 5 boards in Detroit so he could be a stat stuffer in Detroit. 

If he improves his efficiency even a bit he could be a 18-5-7 type guy which would be nice for a 25 yr old

Whoa. So Brandon Knight abd Reggie Jackson are getting Max-like deals by todays salary cap standard? Even with the cap rising some of these contracts are hard to wrap your head around.

 Way too much money for this guy.  I don’t ever see him being in even the top half of the best starting PG’s.  What an awful deal.  From the Pistons though, not surprising.

 Even  though these salaries are crazy and i agree, you have to consider the fact that NBA is a growing league with more and more intrest from overseas countries which contributes. Also there is inflation, which means that if you compare 80 mil today and 80 mil from ten years ago you are talking about completely two different figures.

Lastly, i dont know if he is worth 80 mil, but i did have him on my fantasy team last year and he really does produce when he gets PT. I like his size and his abilities, i hope he does well in Detroit.

I agree with Choppy Detroit had their hand forced by guys like Bledsoe Knight and Dragic getting max money, Detroit had to show good faith in Reggie or run the likely risk of losing him for nothing next year. 16 million is rediculous but to have a SHOT Detroit HAS to lock up the core and really build serious team chemistry so if that means overpaying for the few talented players willing to commit to Detroit, then so it must be. It looks like Stan is comitted to staying flexible and not taking risks which is positive. Van Gundy is going to have to build something within because Detroit doesn’t have the assets or locale to make huge leaps roster wise year to year. My biggest concern is Brandon Jennings…what he wants, what management wants from him, how he produces post-injury, how he and Jackson play together, which new teammates will he click with on/off the court….these are all unknowns leading up to this year. There will be a lot in flux once again for the Pistons but at least now there’s a lot more stability from last year and a offensive format proven to have success.

He’s a big body, and his ability to attack the basket is going to be the driving force behind DET’s offense. They had to lock him up, and it’s better to do it now than later because it gives them more flexability once the cap does go up. Having a core of Johnson/Drummond/Reggie is big, and can def. see them ushering in a new era of Detroid Basketball that we haven’t seen in almost 10 years. Van Gundy is a great talent evaluator, so I’m putting my faith in him if he thinks Reggie can take it up another gear. He is only 25, so you have him for the entirerty of his prime. 

Reggie was damn near all-star level around the hoop last year, finishing at an above 60% clip (Higher than Monroe btw), and his 3 ball improved as well. He’s finally going to have his own team with a coach who actually knows what he’s doing, so I think Reggies best years are still ahead of him. I see a lot of people writing DET off as another lottery team but don’t see how a team of:

Drummond-Baynes

Ersan-Toliver

Johnson-Morris

Pope-Meeks

Jackson-Jennings

is going to finish out of the East playoff picture. They have the best rebounder in the game who can block shots as a rim protector, they have a plethora of shooting in Ersan/Morris/Meeks/Jennings/Pope, shot creators in Jackson/Jennings, and have the depth and versatility to hang with a lot of teams. All this team needs to do is gain confidense and chemestry, and I don’t see why they couldn’t hang with some of the teams in the East like Miami/Pacers this year.
