Now the shortlist.   Lakers, Spurs, Suns, Mavs, and Heat.  All making way for Lamarcus Aldridge to get on board.  Yet only one team gets his services.   After he doesnt choose your team whos your plan B?  Probably going to take a combo signing to get over L.A. fever.  Some options…

Lakers:  Got to win with one year left of Kobe right???  Rondo and D.J.  would be lob city2 and possibly a defensive force L.A.s other team.   Would spark some drama with the rival teams and be must see Clips vs Lakers in 2015/16

Spurs:  Lost some size so far with Splitter going to Atlanta.  Key players coming back but is this the last year?  In waiting for the next Duncan, Spurs can go short term with promises to be near the top of the West and Finals worthy.  Luis Scola and Patrick Beverly (RFA) would be a strong coup and fill in Spurs few weaknesses.  Would have to pry away Beverly what else is a Texas team supposed to do?

Suns:  Only plan is to become relevant again?  No real plan is too solid.  Trade one, acquire another.  Trade three, acquire a second rounder.  All to impress and woo Aldridge who can see what season they’re building on and who they are building with.  A season of downturn and a team with no real facilitator, defense concept, and rebounding.  Who can come in after Aldridge says no thanks?  Amare Stoudamire and Gerald Green (UFA, who they already had)  Bring down the house with these dunkers and give the poor Suns fans some highlights for the coming season.  Psycho T is a close third

Mavs:  What is their game plan exactly?  Superstar hunting could leave them out in the cold in the heat of summer.  Losing Monta Ellis, T. Chandler, and possibly Rondo and Stoudamire is a lot to replace.  This is as bare as the cupboard has been in a long time. Just secured a 4 yr with W. Matthews and may have the inside track on D.J. but who else?  Aaron Brooks and Robin Lopez are coming off strong years.  Good facilatator in Brooks and strong presence in Lopez around the rim incase DJ reupps with Clippers.  Will Mark Cuban be tanking soon : )

Heat:  Plans coming together again for Heat.  Look to rebound strong from last year.  Bosh and McRoberts coming back from injuries and Wade reupp for 1 year.  Winslow waiting in the wings and Double Dragon back on the attack.  What is not to like?  Could say Heat are favs to land Aldridge and title this "Your team is loaded and Lamarcus wants in?"   Heres your depth chart:

    PF. Aldridge, McRoberts, player/coach Haslim

    SF. Bosh, Deng, Winslow

    C.  Whiteside, Birdman, Aldridge

    SG Wade, Z. Dragic, Winslow

    PG G. Dragic, Chalmers, Napier

    Good day everyone…

And how are the heat going to sign LMA without loosing anyone. Bosh getting $22m, Wade $20m, Dragic starting at $16m??(unsure), Deng at $10m McRoberts and Anderson at about $5m each and then there is Haslem, Chalmers and a few others. There is a lot of salary to dump to get Aldridge. Could do a sign and trade but it would cost quite a few pieces.

First of all the Heat have no cap space to sign Aldridge.  They would need to move a ton of pieces without taking on salary to make that happen.  Also do you really think that Bosh can play SF?  Whiteside would be moved to a bench role and Bosh would likely play center.

Heat – Wade, Bosh, Deng, Whiteside, Dragic, Winslow, Chalmers, no cap space will have to trade some of these assets to accommodate LMA.

Spurs – Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Leonard, Diaw, Green, Coach Pop, enough cap space to not lose anyone else and STILL offer LMA the max.

Why would anyone in their right mind think that the heat are frontrunners?

Look on the bright side, with thinking like that you may be Sacramento Kings GM one day.

I can’t see a scenario where the Spurs wouldn’t be the front runners for his services.

    1. Can offer him the money he wants? Check.

    2. Contending team with a fantastic organization? Check.

    3. Great coach? Check.

    4. Gets to go back to his homestate? Check

With spurs he will need to play center with duncan on team. 2 Duncan is turning 40.  3 Manu turning 38. 4 Is Pop retiring with Timmy? Sign a 4 or 5 year contract for 1 year chance?

duncan hasn’t been a true full time power forward since Robinson left. When he was younger he could play the four but as his mobility decreases, so does his ability to play the 4 (especially in today’s game). Pop, when asked, said that Duncan has been their center for the past 15 years. I’m a laker die hard, but the LA/ SA fit is damn near perfect. For all the reasons already mentioned. The high low with Aldridge and Duncan will be damn near impossible to stop. I’m predicting that David west will go to SA as well and put the Spurs right back atop the western conference.

Just to clarify, whereas Duncan will not be asked to play much pf if Aldridge comes, he is still more than capable of producing at a high level from the power forward position. I wouldn’t want to have him switching out onto guards or playin the 4 against small ball lineups tho
