 Totally agree 100% with you. I also believe that WCS has more potential than many think. His jumper isn’t too bad, he’s still a freak athlete, and it’s not like 21 y/o kids don’t get any better.

 Low IQ, poor feel for the game, bad hands, questionable passion for the game, very little skill development in 3 years of college ball, lack of physicality, poor rebounding rate, etc.

People just assume that he’s going to be a true defensive anchor because of his physical tools, but being an anchor is MUCH more than physical tools, otherwise JaVale McGee would’ve been one and Andre Drummond wouldn’t be a bad defender.  The defensive anchor has to be the quarterback, has to communicate, calling out rotations and balancing risk reward so they don’t compromise defensive integrity.  Does WCS have what it takes to do that? I don’t know about that.  He wasn’t the vocal one at Kentucky calling out the rotations.  That was KAT.  Can he make certain rotations and recoveries that others can’t? Sure, but how many times will he compromise the defensive with his decision making and ability to diagnose plays?

Yes, the Kings needed defensive help, but they needed an infusion of intangibles and IQ to go along with that talent.  IMO, a dumb team just got dumber with that selection.  Then there’s the offensive side of the ball where WCS should be an absolute zero.

 I can see why they took WCS and don’t think it’s a bad pick but they clearly need an upgrade at pg and I would’ve thought mudiay would have been the better choice. I have a feeling they are planning to go after Lawson or rondo through trade or free agency, but for them to pass up a chance to develop a young pg with that much potential on a rookie deal could come back to haunt them.

There’s no reason to bash this pick. This is the first year since drafting Cousins that the Kings have actually made the right decision.  WCS can play alongside Cousins from day one and provides some great insurance if Boogie doesn’t end up being in their long term plans.

WCS is as close to a sure thing as we have in this draft. Even if he never develops anyoffensive game, he should be a key, impact player. And I don’t buy this idea that he’s an offensive liability. I’m not saying he’ll come in and be putting up 15 PPG right off the bat, but there’s no reason to think that’s an unrealistic expectation in the long term. His athletic ability alone should get him 8-10 PPG and he honestly has a beautiful jump shot from what I’ve seen. Of course, shooting jumpers probably won’t be his role in the beginning, but I expect him to become a reliable pick and pop guy at some point. I just can’t speak highly enough about this guy.

WCS did fit a need for the Kings as they needed an athletic defensive minded big so it wasn’t a horrible pick by them. They also needed a defensive minded PG and a defensive minded SF and I think both Mudiay and Winslow offer more upside than WSC and when you have been as historically bad as the Kings you need to get the best talent you can so either one of those guys would have been better picks. Hezonja was supposively their guy though going into the draft and he was gone by their pick.
