In today’s NBA everyone is looking for the star PG. The next Curry, Paul, Westbrook, Wall, Lilliard etc. Seems as though everyone thinks the Kings need a PG for the future. My question is what’s wrong with Deron Collision and why has he played for 5 teams in 6 seasons.

Sure he is not a star calibur PG. He may never make an all star appearance. But let’s put this into perspective a bit.

He shoots 47%FG and 37%3pt. Last year in limited time he went for 16-ppg, 6-apg, 3-rpg and 1.5-apg. But here’s the kicker. He’s penciled in for 5-mil per year with 2 years left on contract! In today’s NBA that’s unheard of.

If I’m a team in need of a PG I throw whatever useless assets I have at Sacramento and hope they bite on it. Like a young prospect or a late 1st. Collison is being forgotten.

I admit I spelt Darren wrong. Collison gets spell checked into collision on my phone oddly enough due to the collision my phone had with the ground and the cracks in its screen I couldn’t detect the spelling mistakes until it was too late to edit. Which is like 5 seconds.

I believe he wasn’t particularly good at being the coach on the floor. It seems his time with Chris Paul really helped him. Yes, he’s not a star, but he’s OK for a starting gig. The problem is that there are so many great PG’s in the league, he looks worse than mediocre because he’s not particularly great at anything.

Hes a good PG, I wouldnt necessarily call him underrated. People in the league and knowlegable fans know that hes had issues holding on to starting position (he couldnt beat out George Hill w/ Pacers and in Dallas). And the holds true today with the Kings as i have been hearing a potential addition of Ty Lawson (which shows the lack of faith with Collison).

Sure those are good numbers on face value, but like you said, lets put these numbers into perspective; he was the starting guard on a team that went 29-53, and he was a sieve on defense, with a Defensive Rating of 110 which ranks him 2nd worst among starting point guards in the league, only behind the Lakers Jordan Clarkson. He is already 27 and his biggest asset is his breakneck speed- an attribute that will only recede with time, and is already beginning to slip. His 3pt% is good for his career, but before this year it was always on a very low volume, 1.6 attempts per game over his first 4 years in the League. He may have good percentages but his unwillingness to shoot even open 3s in game as you may have seen if you watched many of his games over the years means that he does not scare opposing defenses because they can play off him without worrying about him shooting.

Yes he is on a bargain contract, but he is on the backend of his career at this point as his game is predicated on speed, and he is aging. Not worth throwing assets at, especially a young team who would do better looking for a strong locker room veteran presence or picks to trade for with their assets.

I’ve always viewd Collison as a top flight backup point guard…the best backup PG in the league which probably makes him somewhere around 25 in terms of overall PGs.

He’s alright. Pest defensively, good enough to run the show in spurts offensively, not going to score or put up big assist numbers but can do a little of both.

    I like him a lot.

He has had his best years as a back up PG and I honestly think that is his calling not that there is anything wrong with that.
