IndianaBasketballParticipantI didn’t see this coming…
There are some speculating he’s opting out of the $12.6 million to restructure his deal with the Pacers, but I don’t think so… I think he’s looking to sign with a contender. We’ll see though. IF he leaves, the Pacers will be missing a HUGE leader on ***and*** especially off of the court. West is huge in the community. His impact goes beyond his numbers.
With this news, I think the Pacers will think hard about taking Trey Lyles with the 11th pick if he’s available. It’s been reported that Bird is high on Will Cauley-Stein, so it’ll be interesting to see what he does if they’re both available at the 11th pick.

TRC1991ParticipantHe will clearly not be getting $12.6 million from another team…I think he really wants to join a contender and was willing to take a massive paycut in order to do so.
Yet with a healthy Paul George, I would actually consider Indiana a relative contender

The GoatParticipantHe has probably decided that someone may be willing to give him a multiyear deal for less per year that adds up to more overall. He will probably still be able to sit there and knock down his jumpers the same way he does now until he’s 38 or 40.

BiggysmallsParticipantCan Indy sign Ellis and go over the cap to resign West? Because if they do that, they’d easily be the 2nd best team in the East.
I’m not familiar enough with their cap situation but Indy would have a really intriguing group. That would allow them a lot of flexibility in the draft as well. Lyles as an eventual replacement, Payne or Stanley all could be options

robertsallParticipantIts refreshing to see a guy like West opt out because he knows he’ll get less $$ but must simply want to win. If I’m Cleveland I’m all over getting him in place of Love for less than half the price.

HitsterParticipantThe guy has had several big contracts in his career and probably wants to try and get on a real contender for his last few years. I agree that with Paul George back the Pacers should be a legit play off team and he would have to take a big cut to get onto a really strong contender.
He could possibly link up with CP3 again at the Clippers, if GSW move Lee then he’d be an option there, Miami might chase him and Atlanta might like another veteran big if Brand retires.
