Our little mock draft exercise has made me realize that the lottery caliber talent runs 19-21 deep this year. All 20 of these guys have gotten enough lottery buzz that nobody would be surprised in the least if they went top 14.

A team like my Celtics doesn’t really need to trade up to get a really good player. Every team in the top 20 is going to get a really nice player, or at least have one available.

    1.Timberwolves: Karl-Anthony Towns

    2.Lakers: Jahlil Okafor
    3.76ers: D’Angelo Russell
    4.Knicks: Emmanuel Mudiay
    5.Magic: Kristaps Porzingis
    6.Kings: Willie Cauley-Stein
    7.Nuggets: Justise Winslow
    8.Pistons: Mario Hezonja
    9.Hornets: Devin Booker
    10.Heat: Stanley Johnson
    11.Pacers: Cameron Payne
    12.Jazz: Myles Turner
    13.Suns: Frank Kaminsky
    14.Thunder: Sam Dekker
      Kelly Oubre

    Bobby Portis
    Trey Lyles
    Kevin Looney
    Rondae Hollis Jefferson
    Montrezl Harrell

    Jerian Grant

I think that this draft lottery could be 25 deep

KAT / Oak / Russel and Mudiay
This is a 4-deep draft, 4-top notched talents, but I agree, you can get decent role players deep into this draft. This is a much better / deeper draft compared to last year…Last year was simply over-hyped.

I think the draft is 40+ deep with NBA players. Even undrafted guys like Aaron Harrison, Chris Walker, and Sykes will get minutes in the NBA eventually.

Because the top 20 players in the draft are guaranteed to pan out??

I see it the other way. Theres about 8-9 really good prospects, then it drops off with buch of players who could be role players.

    Okafor
    Towns
    Russell
    Mudiay
    Winslow
    Porzingis
    Hezonja
    Stanley Johnson
    Cauley-Stein
    Dekker

After these guys, you have a bunch of raw/projects, and possible role players.

Totally agree with you, except maybe for Dekker. But for me, the first 8 guys are pretty much fixed, not the order however. If one of those players should fall below 8th every team who looks for BPA should pick him up.

Almost all of these guys are projects and not NBA ready. The potential is there but it is not realized at this time.

IMO, outside of your top 5 (and Hezonja), there are guys like those others in every draft.

BTW, was this the OP’s most popular post ever? Reason I ask is, sadly, I don’t think we’ll be seeing any more of zer0d0ubt for awhile.

However, the good news is we can now all anxiously await an inevitable return with yet another new username! (So exciting!) Which will be his 4th, of course, following arambone, arambone2 and zer0d0ubt.

Definitely a deep draft. I didn’t even include Rozier.

This was before I realized how slow D-Slo was, and tried to tell the non-Laker world.

Most guys on that top 20 list are getting minutes and making an impact.

Who else was calling Jerian Grant a lotto talent besides me?

A lot of guys playing like lotto picks so far. Re-drafts are definitely going to be at least 20 deep with impact players.

Funny that you compare Rozier to Westbrook now but before he was drafted by the Celtics he wasn’t even in your top 20.

I think I had him 21st. Higher than anybody else.

I didn’t think the draft would have been so deep. Portis, Anderson, RHJ, Hunter, Mickey, Looney; That’s 21-30 kinda crazy. Clearly a weaker draft this year
