This is one for the Collective Bargaining Agreement experts…

There’s growing belief that Dario Saric is likely to spend at least 2 more years in Europe, as this will benefit him financially because he will avoid the NBA’s Rookie Scale, similar to Mirotic with the Bulls. He would probably make more money there as the Rookie Scale for a late lottery pick is quite low.

So does this reduce his value as an asset for Philly? Not only is he 2 years away from returning… but when he does he can negotiate a much higher salary.

Can somone clarify this for me?

If Philly low-balls him, could he technically sign a 1-year deal with them on the minimum and then pursue free agency as an unrestricted free agent…thus leaving Philly with nothing but a cheap 1-year rookie rental.

I’ll admit that I don’t know all of the logistics that go into this, but I do know that Philly had the 2nd lowest payroll this season (only ahead of Milwaukee) and has the least amount of guaranteed money for next season. Assuming they continue on this trend of signing young guys to small deals instead of overpaying for a veteran, I don’t think money will be an issue if and when Dario Saric comes to the NBA. They’ll have a lot to go around.

Saric could stay in europe until 2017.

    Embiid is hurt again.

But they traded MCW not even a year removed from his ROY campaign.

    smh.

i think the idea is to gather as much young talent as you can in anticipation of the salary cap increase. Then hope one develops into a superstar and use the extra cap to retain all your guys. I believe Hinkie will attempt to build this team almost exclusivley through the draft.  The problem he is running into is you cannot move onto the contending phase of the rebuild until you identify your star players. Hence the MCW trade.  I believe Hinkie will target the player with the Highest ceiling and in my opinion that is Porzingis. As good as Russell appears to be the fact is the PG position is the easist to fill.  Building his team around versitle bigs will allow Hinkie to dictate whether a team can go with big or small lineups.  Sorround bigs with shooters and a distributor at the one. and your good to go.

The one thing I don’t get is if this was the plan for Saric from the start then why did he withdrew from 2013 NBA draft when he got promise from the Mavs with 13 pick?
I mean he could have saved himself a year of time and his stock won’t make a difference considering he isn’t interested to get the normal rookie contract
