mgreener_34ParticipantI know this seasons almost over, but I love the offseason in the NBA more so than any other sport. The speculation, the trades, the summer league, it’s great for a junkie like me. With the draft looming, I wanted to see who everyone thinks will be the breakout players next year?
This past year we saw Jimmy Butler become a legit #2 on a contending team.
Reggie Jackson fall flat on his face, but then graciously pick himself up.
Gobert did his thing
Korver somehow perfected his game
Vucevic turned into a legit top ten C
Kris Middleton and Hayward finally reached into that deep pool of potential
This year my predictions are:
Alex Len- A healthy year and starting job from the start will do him good. I’m predicting a 15/8 year from him
Jared Sullinger- Contract year, losing weight, and knows how to finally play within himself. I expect him to put up 17/9 next year if he can stay healthy
Victor Olidipo- He had a great year, but I think this coming year he will solidify himself as a top 5 SG in the league. Don’t be surprised to see him put up 20/5/5 on good percentages.
Otto Porter- Just rewatch the playoffs
Cody Zeller- He played fantastic in stretches last year, averaged 8/7/2 after the all-star break, and played decent D with a 102 Drtg. He’s going to be the starter next year, and should play more than the 24 mpg he did last year. I think he puts up around 13/8/4 for the Hornets.

ZachAttackParticipantI also think that Exum could break out. He’s already bulking up and has been working really hard this offseason. I think that he could be a breakout player this next season. Not necessarily All-Star caliber type (yet), but I think he will definitely do better than last year.
His biggest problem last year was that he wasn’t… confident enough to drive to the rim and shoot a contested shot. Now that he’s had a year under his belt and like said above, he’s bulking up. He’ll be able to muscle his way inside and get a shot off. Now he’ll be able to actually do it instead of jump into someone and bounce back.

Mad MaxParticipantI like a lot of your predictions, except for Sullinger. Also add Brandon Knight to that list had a very good year in Milwaukee and Phoenix. Actually Milwaukee got worse after trading Knight, he’s going to be a very good player.
Anyways, I’ll avoid repeating any of the names you mentioned even though I agree just be unique.
Alec Burks: really been a big fan of his, has good handles and can get to the bucket. I think this is where he puts it together.
Jordan Adams: a year under his belt, should start to get a crack at the rotation and will give a much needed shooting and scoring boost for the Griz.
Terrance Jones: has been improved every season, and if all goes right, could be a borderline all star.
CJ McCullom: Will be starting full time now, and played well in the playoffs. Will be a good scorer.
Tyler Zeller: here’s your big for your C’s. Watching Boston this playoff, thought he was the most consistent big in the team, should get more minutes.

mgreener_34ParticipantWhy not Sully? Out of any of my picks, I thought he was the most likely to break out. He put up 13/8 last year, and is going into his contract year. You know how players are in their contract years…

FrozetoesParticipantBradley Beal: is this the year he stays healthy and becomes the elite SG I think he can be. He reminds me of a cross between D Wade and Ray Allen.
Joel Embiid: I thought he was so dominant at Kansas, and I really want to see how he plays against the big boys.
Jabari Parker: The guy was looking great, then he got hurt. I see a break-out year for him. I’ll say it, I’m excited to whatch the Bucks!
As a Wolves fan, I can’t wait to see how good Wiggin’s and LaVine will be!

RUDEBOY_Participanttrying not to list any names already mentioned..
1.rodney hood ,i said after the draft that teams will regret passing him up…
2.dennis schroeder…if he can make perimeter shots consistently he’ll be a star….
3.mitch mcgary..
4.bruno caboclo…

sitlbitoParticipantUnfortunately Schroeder has to do more than improve on his perimeter shot to be a star. Like passing the ball, take better shots.

Sewok15ParticipantI think Aaron Gordon could improve a lot by next year. He didn’t get too many minutes as a rookie but he is a hard worker that can refine his game and add strength this off season to be able to play both the 3 and the 4 in Orlando.
I agree with CJ McCollum as well…he came on hard in the playoffs and although their backcourt will be undersized it will be very dangerous scoring the ball.

Ilyasova I could see putting up 17/7 in his new surroundings

jaycee24ParticipantI really want to say Andre Drummond. He’s going to be the clear top rebounder assuming Monroe is gone and he’s going to get the majority of the teams post touches and/or lobs with the 4 out 1 in offense Detroit will go for. I think 15-14-2blks is a realistic statline for him. Id bet him to be an All Star

KerouacJackParticipantIm sorry but going from
13.8 points 13.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks
to
15 points 14 rebounds and 2 blocks
Is not a breakout.

OhCanada-ParticipantCJ McCollum will see a bump in usage if Matthews and Aldridge leave. Even if they stay he should continue to progress and be more productive.
I believe the Plumlee/Lopez tandem will breakup this year. If Lopez stays Plumlee should be on the move to somewhere he can get decent playing time.
Hassan Whiteside is missing from your list. Even with him breaking out this year I feel he has a lot more to offer. Year 2 with Miami should be big.
Otto Porter played great in the playoffs and with Pierce likely on his way out Porters role should increase and we will likely see the potential Washington was hoping for when they drafted him.
Alex Len will likely start and get consistent minutes for the Suns. Rumours have them drafting a big yet I think they may want to grab a wing to replace Gerald Green who is on his way out.
Elfrid Payton started shooting the jump shot towards the end of the season. If he really dials in and corrects his jumper his game would open up in so many ways and he could end up a top 10 pick.
That’s all I’ve got for now.

ChoppyParticipantKCP – Call me crazy but I think KCP finally puts it together for the Pistons this year. He has improved each year and if he can take a similar jump and improve his efficiency he should see a modest increase in his production.
Dougie McBuckets – With Thibs out of town, hopefully Dougie gets a chance to impress. Was very high on him last year and nothings changed.

rich.homie.mitchParticipantExum – Doesn’t play all-star level play, but gets a lot better than last year.
Hayward – Jazz will be a good team, he will do even better than last year, and will get media attention.
Elfrid Payton
McCollum – Could always score, just needed the confidence.
Hopefully Stauskas can be more impressive than he was last year. Really like him as a player.

tblazer_NZParticipantDennis Schroeder: Whether he starts or is 6th Man
Alex Len: more minutes will help his production
C.J McCollum: whether he starts or is 6th Man (my dark horse 6th man candidate)
Meyer Leonard: whether he starts or is first big off the bench
Jusuf Nurkic; more minutes will help his production
Bradley Beal; the playoffs showed us some more that we hadn’t really seen.
Otto Porter: the playoff gave us a taste
Will Barton: gave us glimpes
Alec Burks: Will be back and imo better than before

sitlbitoParticipantMcGreener, you basically think the top 10 of the 2013 will break out(which I agree with ).
I see the Orlando Magic going to compete for a playoffs spot, with huge improvements from Oladipo,Gordon,Fournier and Payton(who will break out)
-Giannis Antetokounmpo
-Clint Capela ella eh eh eh *Rihanna voice*

chrispaulwallParticipantAaron Gordon most definitely. I think Marcus Smart and Exum play extremely well too. A lot of rookies who struggled/were injured I think could finally show their potential in general.
