Who do you think the Jazz should take with their first pick.

Their team is actually quite steady at most positions and should see natural improvement upon gaining more experience.

The lineup currently looks like this

    PG: Exum, Burke, Cotton

    SG: Hayward, Burks

    SF: Hood, Ingles

    PF: Favors

    C: Gobert

The weakest position is PG, however a veteran is clearly the answer here as opposed to more inexperienced play.

I think Frank Kaminsky is the guy they need as a backup F/C behind Gobert and Favors. Those 2 guys will average at least 32mpg, leaving at least 20mpg for Frank the Tank. Plus he should be ready to contribute immediately.

He gives them a bit of a different look in the front-court, and Kaminsky seems the kind of guy who might enjoy Utah’s ‘unique’ culture since he’s kinda like the Bizarro version of JR Smith.

I’ll probably get negged for this…But Trey Burke is terrible and should be expendible. His stats on both ends of the floor are a reflection of his poor play. He lost his starting place to the guy ESPN ranked as the 30th best starting PG in the league (Exum). At least Exum plays good defense and gets a pass, since he’s only 19 and was straight out of HS.

They could really use a big man who can stretch the court: Kaminsky, Turner, Lyles, etc.

Honestly, they’re going to take BPA because they don’t have any significant NEEDS at this point. I mean, they could probably use a shooter at nearly any position, but the team is young and talented and every position. I totally agree that Burke sucks. He can’t hit a shot and it’s a bummer. Exum is already better than he is and is going to be SO MUCH BETTER by the time he’s the age Burke is now. I like the idea of the Jazz taking Cameron Payne and trading Burke and a second rounder for a pick in the 20’s for Rondae Hollis Jefferson.

I could see them taking literally anyone but Kaminsky. I don’t think Dennis Lindsey is into college senior players.

I wouldn’t mind taking a big man but I wouldn’t take Kaminsky. I would take Turner, Lyles or Portis in that order. Turner has huge potential to be a great two way player. Lyles could develop into a really good stretch four. Portis would bring toughness and passion.

I’m curious what you mean by Utah’s unique culture? and why would Kaminsky be someone who might enjoy it?

Not sold on Frank either. Take a gamble on Looney, Turner, or Lyles.

I would take BPA (Dekker, Booker, Lyles. ect..) and look to fill their holes with solid vets to come off the bench.

I think Lyles might be the best fit for Utah. Gives them a big man that can stretch the floor and also gives them some versatility as I think Lyles can play the 3 in a big lineup and play the 4 in a small lineup. I think Utah is actually in a great position and they don’t have any major glaring needs.

Ty Lawson or George Hill seem more likely targets.

Rubio is always hurt and way overrated. Burned is fine as back up and they can bring in a vet if they want. I think Looney, Lyles, Portis, Booker, and Dekker could be the be the biggest targets for us. Dennis and. The rest of Jazz management aren’t dumb enough to give up Burke and this pick for Rubio period. Again he is always hurt and apparently you haven’t watched tape, he can’t shoot, must be a wolves fan

Jazz definitely need a big that can come off the bench and stretch the floor and be able to play alongside both favors and gobert. They tried unsuccessfully to have both kanter and Trevor booker fill that role this season.

I actually think kaminsky would be the best fit here. He is an exactly what utah is looking for and should be ready to contribute pretty much right off the bat. Turner could also work if they are looking for a player with higher upside, but he’s more of a project and not the shooter or basketball player kaminsky is at this point. Lyles and portis are solid players, but both were low volume 3 point shooters in college, and at least right now lack kaminskys range.

As a old fart and long time Jazz fan my 2cents worth is the Jazz need a stretch 4, I like Lyles, love his versatility, skills and ability to make things happen, Turner would probably be my next pick , probably because of potential, Kanminsky would be next he is skilled and ready to contribute, Portis would be next , love his work ethic etc, if they went with a wing I would hope Oubre would be available unless Johnson falls to 12.

I’m hearing a lot of bad things about Oubre. I’m thinking Kaminsky may not be the right guy. Haven’t heard much from the Jazz front. I think Lyles or Portis will be the best big man fits for the Jazz

Anybody that at least can shoot from three. Myles Turner would be the ideal pick to me.

I like Turner and would be pleased if they pick him but he may not be there , if he’s not Kaminski is a very good 3 point shooter and would fit as a sub for either “Favors or Gobert, Kaminski may not have the upside of Turner or maybe even Lyles (who is my favorite) but he is very skilled and one of the top shooters in the draft.

The Jazz need frontcourt depth and some players to complete the dynamics Favors and Gobert have created. With that being said some shooting in the frontcourt would be needed to stretch the floor.

This leaves Lyles, Dekker, Turner, Kaminsky, Portis, and Looney as possible fits. With the Jazz also likely bringing Pleiss or Tomic over that would give them another true Center to backup Gobert and give Favors more time at PF. This makes prospects best suited as C’s or players that will spend more time at C like Kaminsky, Turner, or even Portis less attractive and makes guys that project as potential SF/PF prospects more attractive to add an element that they don’t have.

With that being said any of Dekker, Lyles, or Looney are perfect fits in Utah and are all guys that seem used to the small town vibe and not looking for the glam and glitz.
