was looking up his stats and wanted to see how he finished the second half the season. Clarkson didnt get much pt the first half the year and had DNP’s half the games prior to february 23rd. Then starting on the 23rd the team handed over the keys to jordan and he ran with it(obviously the team sucked but he stood out). From February 23rd on, Clarkson played 25+ minutes 34 times over the final 38 games.

His averages over those final 34/of 38 games where he played 25 or more minutes:

    pts: 16.5…ast: 5.7…reb: 4.3…fg: 46%

He also played really good defense and showed lots of athleticism. Took over 3 threes per game and made 32% of them.

Wat are your thoughts on him?

I didn’t see all of his games in the 2nd half of the season.  How much did he have the ball in his hand when he started to break out?  I think that will depend on how his season goes next year with Kobe and Randle coming back as well as the team likely adding Okafor down low.  He’ll have to play off the ball more with Kobe and Okafor getting a lot of the touches.  If he can handle spotting up then I think he can have continued success.  If not then he might struggle in a lesser role with more scorers around him.

I didn’t know he had that sort of athleticism!

Really impressive highlight mix, although you have to take it with a grain of salt looking at how far behind the Lakers were when most of the plays were made.

But he should genuine ability to be a starter at point guard, possibly even a star if he can keep developing physically and continue to improve his jumper.

Lakers have to be extra happy they got the second pick now so they aren’t faced with the dilemma of going with a guard who will stifle Clarkson’s development.

Randle, Clarkson and Okafor/Towns is a decent set of young guys to start the rebuild with.

I think he will end up being a solid PG or scoring guard off the bench.  He is a great athlete.  I watched almost all of his games as a starter, and almost all Laker games in general.  He competes really hard, he doesn’t backdown and he showed steady improvement from game to game.  What leads me to believe that it wasn’t a "good stats bad team" scenario is the fact that he never forced the issue and he was pretty efficient in shooting the ball.  People rave about his work ethic so I have reason to believe that his outside shooting will show improvement this up coming season.

For the 46th or 47th pick I can’t remember which, he is definitely a steal.  It will take one more steal like that to add to Clarkson, Randle and Okafor to really get this team pointed back in the right direction.

He looks like what we hoped Austin Rivers could be or at least I did. I think he should come off the bench for now but he could very well be at an All Star level someday.

He’s got his mid-range game stuck n automatic I’ll tell you that. He has a quick first step, is a good finisher around the rimand is hella athletic. One negative I did notice though is that he really is not that good a passerand does not have that good a vision. He’s not a natural point, but I won’t put much weight on that because almost one of the PGs today are natural point guards.

Clarkson can get a little reckless at times. He’s not the best of ball-handlers, so he can at times get out of control while attacking the lane. As of now, I don’t see a lot of counter-moves in his arsenal. His dribbling is more of a Westbrook than a Kyrie, wherein is a ridicously fast straight-line ballhandler but doesn’t really have those counter spin dribbles, crossovers or behind the backs. Other than that, he as of now also does not have floaters or runners around the rim, but then again he’s 6’5 so he’s not that inclined to develop one.

That’s all I have to say on Clarkson. He’s got a lot to work on, but I’m still excited for him, mostly because he seems like a very, very nice kid who does not have any character issues whatsoever. He’s also got borderline elite finishing ability imo, and most of all, a reliable mid-range game which makes him very fun to watch. Laker fans are right when they say he’s their starting PG for the future, no doubt about it.

What do you think of the form of his outside shot? The release point looks a bit low, but due to his height as a PG he might get away with it. His FT% is really nice (over 80%), and considering almost none of his three-point shots came from the corners he has room for improvement there.

This summer he should invest in the catch-and-shoot three, which should allow him to play better of the ball next to a ball dominant guard like Kobe. However in general, I like his potential. He is a strong finisher around the rim, which combined with a quick first step translates in a lot of easy points.

Lakers got great value with Clarkson. They could have easily reached for Lavine at 7 (And I thought they would after that 46′ vertical report at their workout). Instead they got Randle at 7 and Clarkson, who Laker fans argue could ultimately end up better, in the mid-second.

clarkson’s performance this season didnt surprise me at all…alot of people seem to have 4gotten that early during his junior year he was playing so well that he was rated as a possible late lottery to mid 1st round by alot draft sites including this one..but after teams started scouting him and putting double team on him, he was up & down the rest of the season..

even though he had a solid season… i dont think he’s so good that you can afford to pass up mudiay or russell ,who appear to be all star type players…..

I actually think Clarkson will be better that MCW. Just check out his post all-star game numbers, they were amazing for a rookie. I just hope Kobe doesn’t stifle his develpoment to much this year.
