What if Philly doesn't hit the lottery

Being that they do not land a top 3 pick. In this situation I am also assuming that the Lakers keep their first round pick (top 5 protected) this year. What does Philly do then? I have to imagine that the move on MCW has Hinkie targeting Mudiay, but if he misses out on him and Russell who goes there? If it is Towns, who is projected in that spot, does that mean Saric or Noel get traded? This is the situation that bothers me the most about trading MCW at this time. If the 76ers do not get their PG this year, what do they do?

If Philly don’t get a top 3 pick and the Lakers pick doesn’t come over, then I figure Hinkie maybe targets Johnson or Towns. There is a fair chance that one out of Russell or Mudiay might still be on the board at 4. Hinkie also has other first rounders due like the one from Denver so he’ll have trade up ammo if needed.

If we want to know who Philly is going to draft, we’re going to have to wait and see who gets injured. That will be ONE! I’m not sure if their GM is “allowed” to draft someone with a top 10 pick that will play the following season for them.

It’s well documented that pg is the easiest position to fill in the NBA these days, so I don’t think missing out on the top two PG prospects is really that big of a deal. If they get a top 5 pick they will still be in contention to get a player like Stanley Johnson, or could flip the pick to a team who is really high on Towns. If Boston offered both their picks and one of Sully/Olynyk/Young/Bradley I’m sure Hinkie would listen, because that’s the type of value they could be getting back for that type of player.
Don’t the 76’ers also have the Miami pick this year? Who’s to say they can’t pick up a nice PG prospect there like a Jerian Grant or Tyus Jones. The later part of this draft has a lot of interesting pg prospects

But what team that has poor PG play is contending? Right now I can think of only two being the Bulls and Rockets. The Rockets may not have strong PG play, but Harden drives the offense, and is a great distributor. The Bulls have Rose, but also Butler is becoming a a great player with the ball in his hands. Besides them what team chasing a championship has what would be considered average to below average PG play? Yes, they can take a chance on a player like Tyrus Jones or Jerian Grant (who I actually like a lot), but coming out of this draft do you really feel better as a team adding Stanley Johnson and Jerian Grant after losing KJ McDaniels and MCW? At best that comes out to what would be considered a small win, for a bottom 3 team in the league. I admit, if this Laker pick hits this year, and the play landed turns into a solid pro this may not look bad, but by dismissing point guard as a position they can just fill in with a different prospect is greatly underestimating the position.

It seems to me the Sixers are targeting Hezonja. He obviously isn’t a PG but I would assume that is why they made the deal to get that Lakers pick…hoping to get him at 6th overall.
