I just don’t understand what the TWolves are doing here. You could argue KG is nearly as valuable, given his winning and all-star experience. But couldn’t they get someone younger for Thad.

I get it for the Nets, Thad spreads the floor, etc. But I think the Wolves blew an opportunity here.

Thad could opt in for $9.7 million next season so the T-Wolves have saved that money, they pay KG extra salary but what he’ll give them in revenue may well balance it out. Plus as said above it opens up minutes to Bennett, Payne as KG won’t play too much this year.

KG has played very limited minutes over the last two seasons with DNPs for rest being brought in. If the T-Wolves were going to contend next year he might look to play on but if they will still likely be rebuild, I’d guess he’d bow out this year. 20 years since he was drafted, back on his original team, the time would look right for him to step down.

I’d assume the T-Wolves would look to offer him some role if he wanted it be it mentor, front office, ambassador etc. Flip is doing Team President role too so might in due course be looking to move upstairs full time, if KG wanted a Coaching role he could join as an Assistant and if he looked the part then Flip has a natural successor there. KG is a wealthy guy, he will get media offers too, I have no idea if he has outside business interests so all these would need to be factored in if he took a job with the T-Wolves post playing.

He will of course get offers from other teams with a variety of none playing roles. Personally I don’t see KG as a VP of something looking at loads of stats or scouting a load of NCAA games. I would see him in a mentor type role to the T-Wolves big men, in an Assistant Coaching role or as a Team Ambassador for the franchise.

He has one of the quickest spin moves for a big man i have ever seen. He might not stuff a stat sheet but his high energy and intangibles will be valuble to the Nets. Around the basket he can get to his second jump before most guys allowing him put backs and rebounds. The best part about Thad is if you need him to score, he will.  You need him to come off the bench he will. Great team player.

KG is the perfect mentor for a guy like Adreian Payne. Payne shares a lot of similarities with a younger KG. He’s super athletic, can step away from the basket, and has proven he’s a hard worker and class act during his time at MSU. I’m not saying Payne will turn into a superstar like KG, but he can be a very successful player in this league.

I’m also interested in how KG’s presence will affect Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins has had a good rookie season so far, however, a lot of people still claim he doesn’t have a killer instinct, or that he sometimes just drifts in games instead of taking over when he has the ability to. If there’s anyone in the league that can light a fire under someone, it’s KG.
