    Carmelo is a travesty.

He is out almost the entire year and considering "season ending surgery" but is out there dunking and taking shots.

His team has the worst record in the NBA (worse than my Sixers), and he is the LAST PLAYER INTRODUCED at the All Star Game.  He is also on the Mic welcoming fans to NYC.

This clown is an embarassment to the league.

A "star" makes others around him better.  The Knicks have only gotten worse since they signed Melo.

Shumpert and JR Smith are suddenly completely functional playing with Lebron, who makes his teammates better, establishes a system getting teammates good shots and distributing the ball, and amps up his teammates by being the best and most active defender on the court.  Melo is all about himself and that rubs off on teammates.

Players like Carmelo and Kyrie Irving are guys that have no clue how to lead and make others better.  They are good in all-star games because they enjoy having no pressure and performing, and are selfish and don’t have to get their teammates involved necessarily.

Comparable to Carmelo in size and skill is Lebron.

Comparable to Kyrie in size and skill is Steph Curry.

In both cases, its clearly obvious who the star is and how the clown is.

Carmelo, play some basketabll, make your teammates better, and for God’s sake, get some wins so the Sixers have the greatest odds at getting the first pick.

But seriously, this guy has no soul and no self-esteem.  If you had any self-esteem you’d want nothing to do with the All Star Game because of how embarassing your team has been.

I know you’re from NY, but NY fans are supposedly smart and all heart.  If thats the case, I’m pretty sure they’d respect you sitting out more than looking like a clown and starting.

Umm how’d Kyrie get into this conversation? And HOW is he a clown?? He’s one of the best point guards in the game, and also when of the best personalities too. Suffered through an enitire season with a bum coach and the media all over him with false rumors and he still said all the right things. He’s having a great season thus far even with Lebron dominating the ball at the point.

I think it is a little unfair to put Kyrie in that catagory seeing as he is still so young and still learning the league.

But Back to your main focus on Melo. I totally agree. I was so shocked to see him playing so much of the game. HE did shoot really awful if that helps his case of needing to sit out the rest of the season.

Call me a sook but I feel a bit annoyed a dude will play 30+ mintues in an all-star game jacking up heaps of shoots but then shut his season down in a few days.

Also I wonder if he refused to shut his season down earlier just so he can play in the All-Star game?

He definitely refused to shut down his season earlier just for the All-Star game. Here in NY, the papers have been talking about this season-ending knee surgery for at least a month, maybe longer. But both management and Melo seriously believe that him being in the game and it being at MSG will somehow convince top tier guys to sign with them in the offseason.

I’m trying to turn the corner, but you’re an idiot.

This will be the only time the All-Star game is in NYC during his career.  Also, since he WAS voted into the All-Star game he is the ONLY star that plays in the NY area.  Just like Kobe was something like the ambassador for the All-Star game in LA or Anthony Davis was that in New Orleans, the Knicks (and quite frankly the NBA) wanted to give the hometown crowd something to feel good about.   They are the worst team in the league and one of the most important franchises.

Now, as far as the "teammate" crap you’re spewing calm down… They DID NOT get worse when he arrived and had the best record in the East 2 years ago…  They battled injuries a lot and the team made poor trades.  I don’t see how all this is on Melo…  Iman Shumpert blew out his knee 2 years ago…  And was injured most of this year.  JR Smith was popping bottles during the playoffs.   How in the hell is any of that Melo’s fault?

This is no different than when the Spurs rested David Robinson the entire year so they could get the #1 pick and drafted Tim Duncan.   I hardly think this is entirely Melo’s decision.   If this team has the worst record halfway through the season then why play your star player that will need knee surgery in the off season?  Why not just do it now and get the best chances of landing the #1 pick to help him out?

Keep in mind this IS IN NO WAY THE SAME THING AS WHAT THE SIXERS ARE DOING.  They tried this team out and they got hit with a few nagging injuries.  They also implemented a new system (and clearly the hardest system to get) and fell off.   Phil decided to cut his loses and just go for the #1 pick..  What the Sixers did was trade everybody for future picks.  Draft injured players so they couldn’t play that year and only signed D-League players.  This is a 3-4 year plan for the Sixers, not the same as the Knicks.

For the record, LeBron is lax on defense this year.  Most of their collapses come from him not "being active" on defense.  This was said on THIS site plenty of times.   Also, LeBron has played with Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love over the past 5 years.  JR Smith is the 4th to 5th best player on that team.  He was the 2nd on the Knicks.  You’re comparing apples to oranges son…

Spurs "rested" the Admiral? Come on now, he was a 7’1 centre that broke his foot. Is Embiid being rested too? Maybe in a few years you can remember this as the year the Knicks rested Melo to get a better draft pick.

I have no doubt that Melo is injured, but it does seem a bit crass to mail it in for the Knicks and yet play in the all star game, then turn around and get surgery. Sure it might be better for the Knicks if Melo doesn’t play so they can get a better draft pick, but it just looks bad.

It was said that he was able to come back late in the season, but they decided to sit him for the entire year.  Plus they went into a lock out that upcoming year, so it wasn’t  THAT bad..

So they rested him for the last part of the season – not the whole season. The difference is, he’d already been out so long that he wasn’t going to change their season and to come back for a couple of games he could’ve reinjured himself. 90% of the season he was out injured and you say he was rested the whole year?

If Melo needs surgery then I cannot see why the Knicks would allow him to delay it unless there was no chance of it doing any more damage to his knee. There could be a line of thought that Melo could possibly speak to a few of his All Star team mates to mention going to NY but I would have thought the recruitment would be far better being done by Phil Jackson and co. Phil can set out his vision for the team and I’m sure more people would listen to what Phil had to say compared to Melo.
