On paper they have some really good valuable pieces and it would be really easy to start making trade suggestions but under George Karl the same core were a playoff team a couple years ago and now they are struggling (with arguably a stronger team now).

    This year is a write-off.

Do they look to regroup before the end of the season and get a new coach?
Do they clean out now and see what they can get in trades?
Do they wait until the offseason and then decide?

Denver has a ton of cap space opening up at the end of next season.  They could really revamp their roster.

Currently, Lawson, Faried, Nurkic, Harris and Green are going to be contributing to the cap in 2016-17.

Lawson’s a solid PG, and Nurkic has shown promise at C.  I also quite like Harris as a future starting SG.

Faried is the interesting one.  He plays hard, but is it worth $12 mil a year for a guy who averages 10/10?

yeah, faried is an interesting case.  after the world cup, his stock was really high and looked like he was going to take a leap up in production.  i still think you’ll get value out of him regardless due to his effort on the court.  as a nuggets’ fan, it’s looking like it’s going to be another rough year next year and then we’ll have plenty of cap flexibilty to make some moves.

i’m really hoping afflalo, chandler and hickson are somehow moved this year.  i would like to see what faried can do with more minutes since he’s splitting time with both hickson and arthur.  would also like to see harris get more run.  in the end, i think we should pick up a wing like herzonja or oubre that we can slowly bring in behind gallo and hope that nurkic and harris continue to progress into starters.

I say trade everyone but Harris and Nurkic.

After 2015/16 they should only have players on rookie deals.  Then add some free agents with the cap space.

Every player will have their contract over by then, except for Lawson and Faried who can be traded whenever they get a good deal which might just be a pick and ending contracts.

If they keep what they have, they will finish in 9th to 12th spot in the West every year for the next five years.  So rebuild for a couple of years instead and have a much brighter future after that.

The coach needs to go too, Shaw is terrible.  The owner should actually replace everyone who works there, except the mascot.

Shaw is definitely the main problem.  The Nuggets best competitive advantage is running a fast paced system, and Shaw’s slow, triangle-based system will never work that way.  The triangle usually involves defensive oriented, game managing point guards, which essentially the opposite of their best player.  Faried’s contract won’t be so bad after the cap inflation, but he can’t space the floor or play above average defense, and his upside seems limited.  Nurkic looks like the key to the future, hopefully he will stop fouling at such insane rates soon.  They need to bottom out, and a lot of the players on the roster could be productive in other environments.

You cant keep being stuck in 35-45 win mode. You need high lottery picks to revamp your team.

Atlanta’s been the 7 seed for about 20 years now, and it took a genius coach to get them out of that rut. It makes no sense to stay average. Blow it up. Dont pay superstar or all star money to non superstars or allastars.
