Pro-21ParticipantI just don’t believe in the narrative about Damian Lillard being better. Just wanted to know what you guys thought.

OKCuLATAParticipantLilard is a key piece in a possible championship contending team..at this point Damien has done more in terms of team accomplishments but Kyrie is clearly a more talented player in terms of breaking down defenses and he adds a bit more flash to it…IMO Kyrie > Dame but Dame has the better career..even with Lebrin by his side.

jetlifitsuks2buParticipantLillard has a better career are you serious lol. lillard barley is making the allstar team man. Granted he is a very good player. I don’t very see him winning MVP or even a championship at this point. I could see Lebron pushing and help Kyrie to MVP way b4 Lillard. Lillard has had a far better supporting case than Kyrie and now that Kyrie has LeBron it seems that it has made his game even better. I don’t think the blazers are good enough to bet any of the Southwestern conference in a 7 games series. lillard is very talented but he has a long way to go in being a major piece on a championship team. They maybe able to get pass the first round depending on who they land.

408tankstarParticipantKyrie is way better in my opinion..he has a way better feel for the game..and since joining with lebron James his confidence has been through the ruff…

trelos6ParticipantI think they are very close. The only difference being that Lillard’s team has typically won, while Kyrie’s team has typically lost (until this season).

cozmojimParticipantThey are close, but based on what I know about Dame being an ice cold killer on the big stage, I’ll take him over what I don’t know about Kyrie yet.

TWILL123ParticipantI cannot take Kyrie over Lillard at this point in their careers when Lillard has proven he can perform on the biggest and most important stage, whereas Kyrie has not done that. Both are basically averaging the same numbers throughout their careers, so I’m going Lillard until Kyrie proves otherwise.

Jr. ROXASParticipantKyrie hasn’t done that because his teams, AND coach in the past sucked. This year he has a chance to prove why he’s one of the best 4th quarter scorers in the game again. Kyrie is one of the best closers in the game. Noticing the Cavs games this year, Kyrie has been really efficient scoring in clutch situations even if Lebron’s dominating the ball for 24 seconds. Let’s wait till the playoffs where his clutch performances will get more exposure nationwide.

tfo1983ParticipantEveryone is comparing Lillard’s accomplishments last year to Irving’s accomplishments last year. The Blazers are the best team no one really talks about (until April every year) in the NBA. Lillard wasn’t (and isn’t) even the best player on his team behind Aldridge. Then you throw in Batum, Matthews and Lopez and that solid bench, they put Lillard in situation to be clutch and have those opportunities.
As for Irving, he has been killing it lately and he is one of the most talented PGs I’ve seen in years. Besides Curry, I don’t think there is a PG I would rather build around then Kyrie. He can do everything and it’s scary to think he hasn’t even scratched the surface of his potential. Lillard is a great, great player, but Kyrie is a beast and would be a top 5 player in the league in a few years if he didn’t have to share the ball with LeBron.
By the way, I’m getting really sick of LeBron getting this stacked line-ups handed to him.

Magic JordanParticipantWith all that being said,if Lebron wasn’t on his team we wouldn’t even be having this discussion, as Kyrie would be part of another lottery team, putting up empty stats.
To me its a nobrainer, I go Lillard all day. Kyrie may be more entertaining to watch with his amazing ball handling, but Lillard is the better player for me. He’s a slightly better rebounder, a slightly note effective passer, though maybe not as flashy, and I would say the better shooter because I think Kyrie is more of a streaky shooter, if he’s hot he’s on fire, while Dame is more consistent. Add Lillard killer instinct and its not even close to me. But I think its just preference.

Pro-21ParticipantLillard walked into a perfect situation, with an allstar and a group of consumate role players-defenders and shooters. I think Kyrie Irving is around the same level of a shooter, a better shot-creator, a better finisher because he’s quicker and has even better body control. And as far as functional-in-game athletic ability, Irving is more impressive. On top of that, he is almost two years younger.
I think Kyrie can outplay any PG in a seven game series. Not saying he’s the best one, but his one-on-one arsenal reminds me of Kobe Bryant, cept’ he is the superior three point shooter.

TWILL123ParticipantWhile Lillard’s situation has obivously been better than Kyrie’s until this year, Portland is not a playoff team without him. I think that needs to be a big factor in this argument. I think Kyrie gets too much credit due to his flashy plays, but bottomline is Lillard came into the league a year later, and has made his presence felt when it matters way more. With virtually the same stats over their careers, there’s simply no way you can take Kyrie at this point. He needs to prove that he can perform in clutch situations, especially in the playoffs. As we all know, the NBA playoffs are a whole different animal than the regular season.

tfo1983Participant1. The only reason that Portland would not be a playoff team with Lillard is, because the West is STACKED. They would easily make the playoffs with Aldridge, Matthews (incredibly underrated player) and that supporting cast in the East.
2. You can’t deny Kyrie the opportunity to do the same thing that Lillard has proven. I love Lillard, I really do. But he didn’t make the playoffs on his own. The Cavs have flat out sucked before Kyrie was saved by the King. However, Lillard has done it and Kyrie now has to do the same.
3. I look at things currently AND in the future. Has Lillard done more than Kyrie right now? Absolutely! Has Kyrie had the same opportunities yet? No! Also, Kyrie is 2 year younger than Lillard and still maturing. I think it’s too early to tell on either of these guys.
One thing we can agree on, they are both nasty. Since there is so much talk of 2 pgs, time for top 5 list. I ranked as the best PGs right now I would want on my team this year AND down the road.
1. Steph Curry
2. Kyrie Irving
3. Damian Lillard
4. Russell Westbrook
5. John Wall
I will admit that age had a lot to do with my list. Also, I’m taking Chris Paul off until he can prove he can something when it matters. He’s had plenty of chances at this point in his career, so I would take one of these young guys over him all day.

tuck243ParticipantI’m a Duke fan and love Kyrie… I think he got unfair criticism throughout his career, but you still have to put some blame on the player… Unless you’ve been living underneath a rock, Damian Lillard is the better player right now…
Lillard walked onto a lottery team. Yes, LA is CURRENTLY better than a lot of players, but the Blazers weren’t that good when Dame arrived. If you go look at Dame shooting numbers he was considered the best shooter hands down for a couple of seasons… His main issue was finishing…
http://www.sbnation.com/2013/12/30/5247416/new-york-knicks-defense-breakdown
(Scroll down until you see the shot chart, Dame shoots over 50% from most spots on the floor)
I will admit that the past month he has been in a slump but Damian Lillard is better than Kyrie right now… When he’s on..he just take over. He’s leading the NBA in scoring in the 4th Quarter and his shooting percentage in the clutch was the best in the league last year. Add the fact that Kyrie’s best game was a little bit of "ball hoggness" (He shot 36 shots to get to 55, with 19 of them being 3’s… Also, he’s the only player in recent memory to score over 50 points and not shoot above 50% for the game). I’m going with Lillard and this slump.
What’s crazy is you guys were nowhere to be found when people were KILLING Kyrie last year… Now I see a thread made that says Kyrie is better than Lillard? Look how things have changed. It was just all good a year ago…
