The Scare Crow RisesParticipantLets say they land the 3rd pick and select Stanley Johnson or Kelly Oubre to play SF…
Than they use Miami’s pick to move up for D’angelo Russell (7-10 range)
They walk away with Johnson or Oubre at SF and Russell at SG…
Would you consider that a home run for them if they miss out on a #1 pick?

DanielcmccartyParticipantIt wont be a homerun unless they get okafor. Hes the only sure thing. Start him and embid next year and bring nerlens off the bench as a 6th man. They will have a homerun rebuild if they can put
MCW
2015 Lottery Pick
Wroten
Embid
Okafor
Noel
You can make something happen with that roster in addition to what they have with Covington, Jerami Grant etc. Still a ways away but could be playoff team in 2017.

Ebown5ParticipantRussell is going to go higher than Johnson I think.
If we get the 3rd pick I would just take Russell there, and that stay put at the Miami pick and select the BPA.

DanielcmccartyParticipantI agree. Russell is shooitng up fast on the board, and hes only a freshman? I wouldnt be stunned if they Trade MCW/2015 lottery pick to get him after they use their top pick on okafor if they get him

hbomb3300ParticipantI think stock on MCW is wayyy down. It’s going to be tough to get decent value for him in a trade. They would of been smart to trade him last year, but I’m guessing the offers were underwhelming even then. Even if they can’t trade him I don’t think the 76ers will hesitate to take Russell at 3 or 4.

DolanCareParticipantD’Angelo’s ability will be make him a top 5 lock. Players with major high school noterity (i.e Okafor, Alexander and Oubre) get all of the hype, and rightly so, once they come to college. But once the dust settles the true standouts make their way to the top. Obviously the draft has a thousand of holes and inefficiencies but overall talent isn’t ignored.

MopgrassParticipantThe D’Angelo Russell hype train is out of control. This guy shot up the draft charts because he’s an excellent college basketball player for a good team. But when people start saying he’ll go above Stanley Johnson, I take exception. Russell is in no way a top 5 talent. I don’t think he’s a lottery talent.
Strengths: Amazing mid-range, great looking form out to the free throw line, crafty shots inside, great handles, spot-on passer, rebounds well for a PG, good wingspan.
Weaknesses: Absolutely cannot penetrate in the pros. He can barely do it now. He scores because of ball movement, he cannot create (something today’s PG needs to do). Not good in transition. His form devolves past the free-throw line. He likely lacks strength to shoot further with consistency (though his college 3PT% is good). He gets almost zero elevation on his jumpers, barely leaving his feat. He will be blocked all over he place in pros. He barely gets his shots off now (he does make them though), but pros will close in. His under-handed finger-roll type layups will be harder to pull off. Not a good athlete and won’t be able to defend guys like John Wall at all.
These problems aren’t insurmountable and I’ not saying he can’t fix a lot of these issues. But his shortcomings are harder to deal with than the super athlete with lazy handles. I think people are seeing a very good player doing very well on good team. Being a prospect is a separate issue. Otherwise Jimmer Freddette would be running the NBA right now.
I’ll be disparaging D’Angelo all year (no offense, buddy) until people drop him down around 20th pick.

Magic JordanParticipantI would say even with his lack of elevation on his jump shot (not that important) his height and his release point is probably at least equal if not slightly higher than Isaiah Thomas is he always getting blocked? Most NBA teams average between what a game? 7-9 blocks is what I would guess, who ever really gets blocked all over the place anyways?
If what you look for in players is exceptional combine numbers then Russell isn’t going to do it for you, and I imagine guys like Chris Paul and Steph Curry don’t do it for you either seeing how neither of them are above the rim athletes. The fact is they can play, and if you watch Russell you can tell he can play. That’s what I look for. He is already so advanced offensively for someone his age its ridiculous. You say he scores because of ball movement like its a bad thing…. Like its not exactly where the NBA is headed. He scores from ball movement which also means he has no problem moving the ball… Another thing I like in a player.
To sum it up, you shouldn’t be offended when someone suggest Russell over Stanley Johnson, it just comes down to team need and fit. They will both be good pros I think but what Russell does is harder to find.
And by the way, Stanley Johnson doesn’t elevate much on his jumper either.

MopgrassParticipantI’m more annoyed at bandwagon people than anything. When Kelly Oubre wasn’t getting minutes, many were saying he’s barely a 1st round guy and now he’s back to high lottery. I never moved his position. People jump on board at the same time and trending doesn’t equal talent.
Perhaps "blocked like crazy" is an exaggeration. Maybe "shot disrupted" is more accurate. No IT2 isn’t blocked all the time… because he’s got super speed. I should say: blocked is not the issue, it’s not being able to get a good shot off.
I do value skill: Okafor is a not remotely an athlete and I think he deserves to be the 1st or 2nd pick. Russell is totally skilled. I just think he has too many things working against him to make him obviously elite as s prospect.
Ball movement alone does not get things done. Any team in the pros without a PG who can drive is a losing team. Yes, the ball is moved more, but someone has to drive, someone has to kick.
Mid Stanley Johnson had a good looking shot, he’d be in contention for the 1st pick. Luckily for Okafor, Johnson’s shot looks atrocious.

Memphis MadnessParticipantWho can play the 4? They already have two centers.
Looks like centers and combo guards in this draft — which Philly already has.
even if they get the top pick, do they have a superstar to build around?

Ebown5ParticipantEmbiid is the superstar to build around if he is healthy. We are just waiting for that to play out.
If we get the top pick then we just take Okafor anyway and figure it out later.
Towns and Porzingis can both play the 4 and they are likely to be top 5 or top 6 picks.

OrserParticipantIf they miss out on the number one pick, and they end up with Stanley Johnson and D’Angelo Russell, without trading away major assets (trading a couple seconds to move up is fine), that’d be more of a "double" than a "home run" for me (sorry for the bad sports metaphor).
A home run for me would be getting one of those two players (Johnson and Russell) and one of Towns or Mudiay. Though a draft of Johnson and Russell would fit wonderfully from a positional need standpoint (especially if Noel and Embiid can find a way to fit together as a starting frontcourt), I’m still more inclined to gamble on the upside of Towns and Mudiay.

EndlessknightParticipantIt would depend on what they would have to give up to draft Russell and whether he can play SG or not.

Bmore_DCParticipantIf they can get Russell, they should trade MCW for a wing player. If they miss out on Russell, im not a big fan of the wing-players in this draft, but isnt Saric a SF?

HinkieAndFalkParticipantthis draft is the bonus round im waiting for the Jaylen brown ben simmons 2016 draft.
We either draft okafor or trade our pick if it isn’t first.
its a rumour going around the suns are trying to move goran to hou for tj,pap, and pelicans picks.
we could deal our first pick if okafor is gone.
sixers get :lakers pick, phx pick, pelicans pick and if we could pull it off maybe another phx pick.
phx gets : sixers first round top 2-5 pick.
phx drafted 3 first rounders last year and signed Thomas also got len back they are deep already they can make this move to get them the star they couldn’t land in free agency and save so much cap space also. they also get 3 player with the trade sixers pick, tj and pap.
we could ended up drafting 6 ,14,15,16 or 14 ,16,18 and own the lakers 2016 top 3 protected pick and a 2017 phx pick.
the possibilities are endless.
Also boston we could get atleast 3 to 4 picks from them that are high valued these up and coming seasons
also Denver has few picks they can offer us.its a lot more options if we trade the pick I think this is the bonus draft before the top heavy 2016 draft.
its the bonus draft because we could draft okafor or rack up on players and picks.
